amazing songs
credit to marky (bulletofhell) for showing them to me a long ass time ago :downs:
I know a few myself, my buddy Matteo and I trade songs just about everyday. Here's some good ones:
Celph Titled ft. Apathy - Playing with Fire

Madvillain (MF DOOM and Madlib) - All Caps

I know tons of more but I honestly don't feel like fetching all of them. Listen to those along with the other songs by them in the related videos section on Youtube and you'll be hooked on both.
You don't have to like anything you don't want to, but it's a long way from "I don't like Lil Wayne" to "it makes me angry that other people like Lil Wayne"
I'm sorry. But can we at least get back on topic? I'd like to hear any Underground/ Alternative rap groups if you have any to offer.
Never really into underground rap a whole lot but you should listen to Drake BEFORE he was big. Pretty much his mixtapes Room for Improvement and Comeback season.

Then again I am a sucker for songs with an old soul/jazzy feel.
Lady Brown is one of my favorite songs of all time.

And if you think Lil Wayne, Drake, T.I., Nicki Minaj, and Hov don't rap about "real life hardships" then you haven't been paying attention.
the only one i don't like out of this list is Lil Wayne
and nicki minaj is like wow, she's incredible in Monster, i must pick up her album

OP is just pretentious
Everybody needs to cut the mainstream vs. underground.

Why the fuck would you even mention something like that in a music discussion forum?

Every one of the rappers I named again is vastly more talented than the guy from Atmosphere.

They are! He's got some really basic schemes and his flow is pretty awkward a lot of the time. He's got a knack for rapping about feelings and I can see why a lot of people dig that, but his mic chops really are pretty weak.

Call me what you want. You don't even know me.
Call me what you want. You don't even know me.

So, you like shallow lyrics talking about bitches and violence rather than about real life hardships and lyrics that make you think? I highly doubt anybody on Facepunch actually have bitches or partake in violence. Most mainstream rap also has lazy instrumentation and relies on gimmicks rather than talent. Honestly, I don't care if my favorite rappers are played on the radio. I just want them to have more respect and for people who listen to the terrible aforementioned music to just shut the fuck up about it.
I like these songs:
(they're not a hip hop band, that's their only song that has rapping in it, it's just a bonus song but it's awesome)

And I'd really like more. Are there really no artists that combine hip hop with 8-bit or similar things?

Because one or two posts on the subject of hip hop tells you about the entire spectrum of my personality, likes and dislikes. Okay.

I really like this song. It's pretty funny, but it doesn't feel like that's all he's going for here.

Yes from a technical level the rappers you listed are superior. That's a given, most mainstream rappers have a higher production quality for their music than underground rappers. I thought you were talking about lyrics specifically.
I'm talking about rapping ability. That has nothing to do with production quality, though.
I'm talking about rapping ability. That has nothing to do with production quality, though.
You can disguise bad flow in an overly processed song. That's why a lot of rappers sound terrible live. Because their flow is bad or their metre is off or their voice sounds flat.
I love this guy. It's in danish, though
J Dilla is quite certainly not underground
I'd call him underground just because his lack of radio play, if you asked the average radio listener who he is they probably wouldn't know. He's definitely on the upper echelon of underground, though.
You can disguise bad flow in an overly processed song. That's why a lot of rappers sound terrible live. Because their flow is bad or their metre is off or their voice sounds flat.
I'm not sure you know what flow is. Or metre. You can't change it in post. It sounds like you think metre and flow = ability to keep a beat.
