It's actually a legitimate tactic to discourage sipwickets from poking around where they shouldn't be.
Well fuck you, I gotta live too, also you shouldn't open the fucking case then.
Let's completely ignore the fact that you need to maintain your pc through various means, all of which require opening the case.

Why shouldn't they be there? they bought the computer and "gaming" computers are meant to be customizable.
If the PC's are labled as such, then opening the case should not void the warranty not to mention the important factor of cleaning the case. I don't know about you but i need to clean my rig once every 2 months or the fans become so clogged up with gunk that they're rendered almost entirely useless. You need to open the case to clean the rig.
It's not legitimate at all, it's just a cheap way to fuck over consumers.
I'm not taking the risk of of some brat fiddling around with components and then requesting a refund if he fried it by putting the wrong cables in the mobo. If you don't trust me you can come over to my place and watch with your own eyes how I construct your PC. Also most customers are older people, you are not my target demographic.
EU laws are pretty favorable to sellers of customized goods. If its broken you bring it back the way you got it and we'll arrange a RMA. I'm not repairing your shit for free because you slid a screwdriver across the motherboard.
You're a horrible person.

No. He's a business owner who realises customers are going to try and fuck him in the ass in any way they can. Why should he repair damage they caused to the machine they bought? Unless they bought some kind of extended warranty, he shouldn't. Someone could easily open a PC, purposefully wreck a part of it, and request a replacement, which costs him money he shouldn't need to spend.

You can do that with any sort of warranty i hope you know. Not to mention i would be willing to bet money that it'd be incredibly obvious to tell if damage was intentional. Anyone who knew their stuff could easily bypass "opening the case" to collect on the warranty by doing things like dangerously increasing the voltage and reducing ventilation to fry the computer. If someone did just scrape a screw driver across the board, im pretty fucking sure it'd be obvious.
I still have to run everything on a 2008 4870 (which works surprisingly good) and the odds of me ever being able to afford something that NEEDS water cooling are one in a million, so I'm good.
I also don't quite understand why you need something that powerful, a machine that needs liquid running through it to prevent it from melting probably has no use for most of its power because even maxed out games aren't THAT demanding. FFS I can run Far cry 3 at medium on my old ass rig. Unless you are a part time rocket scientist and need to do some serious physics simulations, I can see no reason to have a 9000$ computer when you could have one with equal usefulness at 1 third of the price.

You are fucking dumb, try to think like a business instead of your petty desires, a business needs to minimize it's loses and this is one way to prevent paying for shit a consumer did to his own product.
If you are so butthurt about not being able clean your shitty pc hidden in a rats nest with no airflow build your own, because obviously if you can't build a pc you shouldn't go near the components with a sort of wet cloth or vaccuumcleaner(ever heard of static electricity?) which by the way a pc stuck in a normal place with normal airflow doesn't need to be cleaned every 2 months I have a 2009 pc which I clean externally with a slightly wet cloth and no signs of any dust inside.
It's legitimate and your petty consumer opinion doesn't matter, because if I had to deal with this shit I wouldn't exist as a company at all.

And you're a fucking douchebag wanker, What you do is fucking stupid. Do you even tell the people that the warranty is void if opened or is it one of those hidden stickers? And in this video you can clearly see it wasn't this guys fault, the cuts we're jagged and that is the companies fault. Why void the warranty because the side panel is removed? And I have to open my PC to clean it about every 3 weeks.

i think if you guys aren't lucky you might get banned for flaming, just a heads-up, don't call people douchbag retarded fuckfaces that should have never been born, it's not very uh...
constructive.
also im not backseat modding im advising
please don't ban me i don't deserve it

I'm literally shocked you build computers if you seriously think a pc doesn't have to be cleaned at least once every 2 months. I said absolutely nothing about using a wetcloth or a vacuum cleaner, why in god's name would i use a wet cloth to clean the internals of my pc.
Also most cases need to be opened to remove things like fan dust filters which can not be cleaned externally. You should also open your case to clean fan blades which get grimed up by dust.
Also, seeing as you're the only one disagreeing with me aside from maybe 1 other person, maybe you should get out. The fact that you believe it's not obvious to tell if damage was not intentional also makes me second guess your choice in profession.

This isn't exactly a flame war. Yes obscenities have been exchanged but further elaborated on past just "you're a retard". Constructive conversation/ arguments have been made.

You are a terrible person, and an even worse business man.
A person should really clean their PC once every two to three months. I use an air compressor; I think it's common sense to not attempt to wash your components with a wet cloth or vacuum cleaner. Depending on where you are in the world, environment, and house will effect how much dust settles inside your PC. As a good measure I always pop off my side panel and dust off the fans and other components regularly to prevent an insulating buildup of dust; this is especially so on fan filters which if not regularly maintained will pretty much cause your temperatures to rise by quite a bit.
The fact that you don't allow people to even open their cases makes me think that it must be extremely hard to even utilize a warranty with you. I have a feeling it'd come down to you finding some way to blame the customer for hardware failure and essentially tell them they're shit out of luck.

you might not use a wet cloth, but again you aren't the main target market for him, the kinds of people who would open the computer case after it goes wrong and then try to clean it (like most normal people who don't want to return it )

There is a 2 year warranty as stated by the EU, and RMA's don't cost me any money except for shipping if needed so I'll do them gladly if it means a returning customer. I'll blame the customer if the tag is ripped off.

1. PC's don't need to be cleaned internally every 2 months if you store it in a normal place with decent airflow.
2. As I said the common person would clean up dust with a vacuumcleaner or some wet rag (clean up around the plastics)
3. You are not my target demographic, so I don't need to cater to you.
4. There is a silent majority who don't give a fuck.
5. Damage done with static electricity is almost impossible to trace except sometimes for popped capacitors on the mobo which could also be caused by a bad PSU or brown-out. This is only 1 example.
6. The fact that you wear a furry avatar makes me second guess your opinion as a normal human being.
The prebuilts we buy are quite lenient with their warranties. You can add and remove everything except the processor, RAM and power supply and retain the warranty. And we pay extra for that security.
But, there's a key difference. Their target market is businesses, which usually have a tech guy to maintain the gear.
I see no problem (and, legally, there is no problem) with a void sticker on the side panel, I'd say most of the people buying the computer wouldn't know (or know how) to clean out the internals of a computer even if they had the choice. I wouldn't trust them to be able to do it.
We don't dust PCs every 2 months, they just don't accumulate dust that quick. Once a year is plenty for us.
im uh
just going to uh
post my speccy
and run out of this flamewar

what are you guys arguing about?

i honestly dont know
i play everything on laptop computer
I don't really see the purpose of having his server PC in the same box. I ran gigabit Ethernet down two floors to my basement so my server PC wouldn't be heating up my room or making noise.

But.....ITS IN THE SAME CASE WOAH WHAT DAMN
That computer can basically run a server while he games at this point.
Every good case I know that's made for watercooling mounts it on the bottom. Also having rubber grommets or pads on the bottom that raise it a little off the case's floor. Top mounted power supply on a good case is rare.
mounting PSU's on the bottom is technically a lot worse for both airflow and safety than on the bottom
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
plus motherboard layouts haven't changed since they started going on the bottom so everything is fucked up

just place your computer upside down then
just place your computer upside down then
that's a very retarded solution
there is literally no reason to have them mounted at the bottom
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
and that also doesn't fix the airflow + cabling problem
