Ok, so having looked through this section the AK's are really growing on me, but which should I get (as in, what manufacturer and which variant)? Is there one that I could get that's versatile in fairly long distances and CQC (the bunkers).

I'm getting a Dboys if I can't find a M500
Get a Dboys AK for sure. Any AK with a folding stock should be good for what you need.
How's the reliability and out-of-box performance? As a newbie, I don't think I'd be too keen on having to upgrade/fix something early on (even though I could probably get my buddy to do it). Sorry about all the questions.
More questions the better. I have a Dboys 74u and it's really good. Range and accuracy are impressive for such a small gun (compares well to my friend's upgraded G&G M4).

There's a couple guys here who have a Dboys AK so they could probably help better.
Rad, thanks guys. [editline]12th December 2010[/editline] This talk of Russian weaponry seems to have summoned Lenin from the dead! [editline]12th December 2010[/editline] Also I'm seeing mixed reviews of the DBoys, with some really damning it. [editline]12th December 2010[/editline]
I bought this replica about a week ago and recieved it today. First impressions: I noticed the gun had a vey nice feel to it, the wood was nice to touch and it was a good weight. However upon closer inspection the wood is a bad quality ply wood - painted; not stained. The metal body is a shoddy pot metal which the paint flakes off very easily, looks like black krylon spray paint. Performance wise this gun is average. I chrono'd mine at 355 fps with .25 bb's so about 400 with .20s. Accuracy wise it is terrible. The hopup is god awful and with the stock battery it sounds like a dieing sewing machine. Maybe I am spoiled by my 1k + guns, but there's a fine line between acceptable and rubbish Pros: Feel nice Looks nice from a distance Solid FPS Cons: Terrible Accurancy with stock innerbarrel and hopup bucking Cheap Finish Stock is very hollow Wood is cheap plywood

i bought this as my first aeg and it was a pretty big mistake in the long run. it was pretty good for about the first 3-5 months then it just started shooting way left and very inconsistant from about 80 feet. and it started shooting two bbs at once wich lowered the fps by atleast 100 and sometimes would have it not shoot and bbs would roll out and not to mention that this happend when it decided to shoot and it jammed probably 15 out of 20 shots every time and it was just horrible after about 5 months. i took care of it alot and it just let me down. but what do you expect from a chinese clone i mean the internals are CRAP except the m120 i think and all the metal is cheap pot metal. when i first got it it was VERY VERY wobbly in the stock hand guards both sights and charging handle it was built crappy and the fire does not come off what so ever to acess the gearbox. and it came with A BAD magazine sling and batery and the flash hider was a pain btw i was using tsd .20 Pros: the weight fps while it worked at around 390 the wood it looks great and sexy! Cons: it broke for no reason after 5 months! its inconsistantsy shoots 2bbs in one shot jams more than 50% of time bbs roll out the metal is really cheap i cannot access the gearbox the fps now is maybe 250 shoots straight down when it decides to work THE INTERNALS almost everything is extremely wobbly except the pistol grip and receiver does not last at all came with cheap mag, sling, and battery keep in mind i cleaned it and luned it and used tsd .20 hi grade bbs conclusion: its a ok/good gun at first but the internals and build quality make it go BAD it was not at all worth my time and money. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET A G&G OR ARES OR SOME GREAT NON CHINESE CLONE HI QUALITY AEG IF YOU WANT IT TO LAST ATLEAST A YEAR!!
[editline]12th December 2010[/editline] I also don't know how much of that is bullshit/nitpicking.
If you get the one I showed you, you can do this: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/996390-Guide-Got-a-Skeletal-Stock-Wrap-That-Crap-Up

[editline]12th December 2010[/editline] Well either way I'll talk to my friend tomorrow, see if he has any contacts that can get me a deal on an AK. Haven't actually been able to find a DBoys on a UK site.
I live in portsmouth and would highly recommend UCAP airsoft at portsdown hill. They've prettymuch just cleared out the nuclear defense tunnels for airsoft usage and there is some seriously good CQB playing to be had down there. Only problem would be UKARA. Its either going to three airsoft games within two months, or buying a two tone weapon, which isn't suitable for use at alot of fields due to them hating them (for obvious tactical and re-enactment issues) If you want a good but cheap AK variant starting gun, I personally would say.... G&G Combat Machine AK47 £135.00 http://www.airsoftworld.net/gandg-combat-machine-ak47.html http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ER-GG-CM-AK.htm Hope that helps a little
Cool, so that's what the place is called. I think I saw UCAP at Fresher's Fayre. I'm still a little confused about UKARA, surely if I already have a weapon that isn't two-tone there isn't much they can do about it? I'm pretty sure my friend never had any two-tones, which includes his M4 and SCAR. Also not sure if I like the idea of a plastic AK, cheaper as it may be.
, surely if I already have a weapon that isn't two-tone there isn't much they can do about it?
If it's already non-two tone don't worry about it
The old Dboys AK's weren't very good from what I've heard. Cheap wood and crappy pot metal. The ones they have out now have really nice wood and steel. As hot as the steel + wood AKs are, those neon orange mags make me not want one. How would ya'll go about covering them/repainting them?
the bakelite mags are awesome man. if you want to be a COMPLETE FAGGOT you could get black ones i guess. [editline]12th December 2010[/editline]
You'll warm up to bakelites eventually. I used to hate them, I don't even own an AK (yet) but now I love them.
Orange bakelites all the way brahskis. I want some orange AKM bakelite midcaps. Can't find any. :(
You'll warm up to bakelites eventually. I used to hate them, I don't even own an AK (yet) but now I love them.
I love AKs and think that orange airsoft bakelites look like shit. Plum or black is where its at for AK74 mags.
I love AKs and think that orange airsoft bakelites look like shit. Plum or black is where its at for AK74 mags.
Depends on the AK to me. If it's a 74 with wood furniture and a skeletal stock it looks wrong with a black mag. Or you could go the way of the blops and put a 7.62 mag in an 74su :geno: Weathering airsoft bakelites helps a lot too.

I like the 1911 best.
1911 because that is a FUCKING good deal right there. You may want to jump on that before its out of stock.
Everyone and their Grandfather has an M1911. I refuse to own one. They're like the M4's of pistols.
But.. don't you own an M4? I need to see more of the old-school 1911's on the field to compensate for all the newer MEU's and skeletoned up M1911's.

Can't say I like your black one too much. I don't care much for the newer 1911's, but it's still p. DOPE. do want gold 1911 and pepperbox though
