I think I'm just going to get a spring gun so there's mainly nothing I need but BBs. I was considering getting a shotgun, or the SVD. The SVD is huge, and would need an enormous case/wrap to cover it. But I can't find a good shotgun I feel like putting my money into.

NiCads need to be discharged completely before charging, otherwise they lose life and they may explode AFAIK.
Nicads are just kind of a pain in the ass to use and tend to have a shorter life span because of how difficult it is to properly take care of them.
NiMh are better, that's what you got. Lithium are the best but have their own set of challenges.

My dad uses Li-Po batteries in his R/C planes and crashes them all the time.
Not ONE has exploded, in the years he's been flying.

Even though I would prefer a 11.1v lipo, a 10.8v isn't too far off that 11.1 mark, unless lipo has some serious other advantages?
If I remember correctly NiMh are much weaker then Lipo so a 10.8v NiMh would be comparable to a 7v Lipo.

7.2v lipos dont put any more strain on a gun than a 9.6v NIMH, FYI.
