Yeah that's what I like about my current one, I don't have to reach up to my man-tits to grab a mag. There's like 50 pockets at my waist/belly which is more comfortable for me. Any opinions on the AEG though?
Seeing a small guy with a crossdraw with either a Celcius PTW or TM SOPMOD....uhh wut. If I see someone with those guns, they're usually the guys who have very expensive gear.
Seriously even I haven't considered buying a PTW or SOPMOD, mainly due to their insanely high price and lack of after market parts.
The PTW is just a rich mans gun, other than that it's nothing special. A standard AEG will fire just the same, minus the quick cylinder change, but there are quick spring swap designed gearboxes for some M4s. Some will say it has a better trigger response. I say just buy a 11.1v lipo for a standard AEG and problem solved. The only advantage it has is the electronic bolt lock, though any player should be able to hear the difference between a firing and dry firing AEG. And the fact that it's compatible with real AR parts makes it an even more expensive weapon to upgrade, since real steel parts tend to cost more than their airsoft counter parts.
The TM SOPMOD is more of a collectors item. I've fired one and I will admit the blowback is impressive, but I still wouldn't buy it. I wouldn't try upgrading the spring, I've heard reports of the blowback system breaking in some cases. It's a whole new level of gearbox work to deal with as well. The proprietary mags don't help either, just driving up the costs.
I'd honestly rather buy a WE GBBR, I mean they're cheaper, can be upgraded to higher or lower FPS (NPAS valve), mags cost the same or cheaper, have better blow back, and function more like a real gun. But even then I know it's still a money pit.
My suggestion for a semi realistic AEG that is practical for skirmishing is the CA M15 ABS (blowback) series. They offer a noticeable kick, more than G&G's but less than TM's SOPMOD. Bolt lock is a nice feature to have and play with. They're also compatible with just about every AEG part on the market.
For me blowback is super nice to have, but it's not a gigantic deal.
I was also considering a KWA gun. it's been said before, put a LiPo in one and they sound like a buzzsaw. Specifically the M4 RIS or the SR7, possibly the G36C.
Also since I got the Glock i've been thinking about the FPG. I know you (Ender) have it, is it really worth it? I mean it's probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen, but I can't really justify dropping that much on it when I could buy that $20 folding Nerf gun. Also, once the thing is put together, can I take out the G18 bits and put the Glock back together?
i think i have gun ADD
KWA M4's are nice. My friend swears by his (yet for some reason he's selling it, might have something to do with that WE M4 he just got.)
As for the FPG, it's fucking cool as hell to use when it's working. You might be able to swap the slide back to the glock after modification, never tried it myself. It does require you to swap the blowback chamber. Unfortunately it can be a bit of a pain in the ass to assemble and maintain.
1. The selector on the slide needs to be replaced with a low profile selector that comes with the kit. Trying to get it to sit on the spring and ball bearing and be pressed all the way in is a royal bitch. There's another member here who had the same issue as me.
1a. The selector likes to shake itself out of full auto and into disassembly mode, so I just keep it on semi. A bit of electrical tape could fit this though.
2. My slide wasn't a perfect fit. Turns out my slide was bowed out a bit, causing friction. Couldn't even rack the slide on the FPG. After a shit load of sanding and silicon spray it works now.
3. Mag release is made out of plastic. I mean really, who the hell thought that was a good idea when you have a heavy 50rd hicap slamming into it when you unfold it? You can even see me losing a hicap on my helmet cam video because of this. As far as I know nobody makes or sells replacements. I had to machine my own out of aluminum at work, even then I had to make 2 before I got it right.
4. Requires FPG floor plates on the mags, or else they won't fit in the gun. The standard mags with standard plates won't be able to seat far enough in the grip without them. An alternative is to simply remove them. The hicaps need the FPG floor plate so it fits in the gun when folded.
Even then I still don't use it much, mainly due to my mags leaking. But when it's working, it's a very effective CQB weapon. Since it's still a pistol, it's a huge plus for me for clearing rooms where only pistols can be used.
PTW's are hugely overrated. I'd rather buy a nice AEG like a Real Sword.
Honestly, if I could ever bring myself to spend that much money I'd rather go for something unique, like the VFC BAR.

A store in my area might be getting those, totally buying one if they are even though I don't have a WW2 kit.
I know what I'd get.
Aren't you in California, like around the Monterey bay area? How much is he selling it for and is it the 2GX one or the older version?
I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, north of Monterey. Not sure how much he's selling it for but I think it's one of the newer ones.

Alright, cool. I shot him a PM about it, waiting to hear back.
What field to you play at? I visit SF pretty often (at least once every 2 months).
I normally hit up Fort Ord, CQB City, and if my team feels like fooling around, Sequoia Airsoft.
Where in Fort Ord? I used to play there all the time in this corrugated metal warehouse at East Garrison but that got torn down a few years ago. There's a more "official" op there occasionally i've herd but I've never went to it. Ive been to sequoia a couple times.
I don't go to a lot of ops, one of my teammates has a gigantic property/ranch where we play mostly. We built a small separate CQB arena too.
And this is why I want to bring my stuff to Norcal while I'm at school. :saddowns: Norcal/the Bay Area sounds like it's more fun than the LA area.
anybody know if these ARES 85 round mid's http://www.zerooneairsoft.com/product_info.php?cPath=272_327&products_id=2220&osCsid=c61d1e6dbef38aea95768fd95614a382
will fit into a KWA M4A1 (the 'newish' one listed as 2GX)?
3 hours in A&E, one minor concussion and severe blunt force trauma to the back of the head later. im back from hospital haha
does anyone know if these mags will fit? codemonkey said they'll fit classic army but im a bit uneasy to spend this much and them not even work

The hell happened to you? "Severe blunt force trauma"?

We play at the official Fort Ord field run by CQB Challenge. The field has an age limit of 18+, which I think is for the better. I might be heading down there on the 14th if Sequoia isn't having their birthday bash game, otherwise I'll go there.

absolutely battered in by a so called 'mate' he didnt take a joke at all basically all i remember was walking into A&E with my head pouring with blood doc says im very lucky since i could have either been turned into a vegetable or possibly even dead... good part is i hit him back and last i saw of him he had a black eye and a broken nose :P worst part is i cant go airsofting on sunday since i can barely walk atm haha
Edit: incase your wondering blunt force trauma is where your hit by a blunt object (in my case my 'mates' fists) and the blow badly damaged the area causing a fucking epic bruise and in my case absolutely LOADS of blood, lovely
Jesus Christ.

This is what happens in Scotland on a daily basis.
yeah nothing much, i eat near death experiences for breakfast haha i used to be in the air cadets and we had countless range accidents. nothing happened but its not nice the three really bad ones were:
1. with the number 8 .22 calibre bolt action rifle the cadet to my right couldnt hold it properly and she had a misfire, the barrel of her weapon went hit me in the side of the head and she fucking tried to refire it. you NEVER try to refire a misfire... NEVER
2. we were cleaning the barrel of an L96A2 (cadet training rifle version of L85A2) for some reason youve got to take the safety off when you clean the barrel so we did and the cadet using that weapon left a fully locked and loaded magazine with live rounds in it... luckily someone noticed the mag was left in.
3. my personal favourite since it was my best mates fault. throwing the weapon onto the ground after a misfire. (he got kicked out for this) since it was a .22 the bolt was already forward and it was a faulty weapon anyway so that knock was enough to ram the bolt forward setting off the round. gave us all a fright
sorry guys didnt mean to off topic about the epic adventures of M.C. Mackers :P
Edit: infact guys, never mind answering my question i need some time to get my head straight because that beatings done one HELL of a number on me... for some reason the things i like just plain dont interest me anymore and im, well to be blunt i dont feel like me right now so im going to clear off for a week or so to get my head straight. I'm getting another check up on friday to see if theres any permanent brain damage so until then so long and thanks for having me guys haha
Jesus you said you made a "joke"? What the hell kind of joke could cause someone to go off on you like that.
This is what happens in Scotland on a daily basis.
Square go like eh?
the joke was just simply 'oh look sams got the same hair cut again' since hes determined to get the latest style every time. then he just lashed out at me for no reason. since i wrote my last comment, ive been back to hospital and ive been diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome if anyones interested. its basically a form of shell shock so thats why im trying to put airsoft and facepunch on hold since im just plain not myself at the moment... this will probably last about 3-6 months, basic explanation is the massive blow to the head has temporarily wiped my short term memory and my main problem: a person judges who they are by their memories. right now my memories feel like theyre not even mine. basically as if im not me and im just in a plastic box watching the real me... im off for brain scan on friday to see if im permanently brain damaged and im going to be gone for quite a while after that. doc says im going to have a massive mental breakdown any day now so thats why im saying bye to the forums until i sort myself out
Should chop off your 'mates' nuts. He deserves it.
honestly right now i want nothing more than to break his jaw, every single one of his fingers... the list of sadistic stuff goes on but to be honest hes lucky i havent got the police involved ive certainly got more than enough stuff to mess him up with
Holy fuck man. That guy must have a really bad temper if he messed you up that bad over a silly joke.
First gen KWA m4s have loads of problems.
A bit of advice, stay out of it for a couple weeks. Be gentle. I know it may be boring, but nervous tissue (which the brain is composed of) doesn't regrow, and if it's damaged, it's gone. So take it easy for a while, and if any symptoms come up, get back to the Clinic, doctor or hospital.
OK. I'm pretty sure my gun ADD has settled down and I'm sure what I want.
I'm going to invest in upgrades for my JG M4 RIS. I'm looking at a Madbull metal body, an AMP Tactical reddot, a madbull tightbore, and a new RIS since the stock one is wobbly. Feedback for AMP's sights?
I was also considering buying a Dboys Kalash AKS-74U. I've heard a lot of good things about it, how is the wood on it?
