All I'm saying is that it would be cool if people here were really into discovering music because it makes for good discussion. Not trying to attack or insult anyone who answered one of those bands, that would be beyond hypocritical.
I think a lot of people on FP are, go look at the Vaporwave thread for example, tons of "outsider" music being talked about there.

Maybe I just wish that more people were into the stuff I like, tbh. It's more of a selfish hope than anything else.
you can't really determine whether or not people listen to a wide variety of music or not based on a "favorite band" list
I'm making assumptions here, I'll admit that. There are patterns that I've caught onto with favorite bands. [editline]17th February 2015[/editline] A good chunk of what I'm saying is based on the limited number of people I've seen in the music chat and last.FM threads. If there are more music nerds than I think there are, they haven't really made their presence known.
I was honestly surprised to see Muse had 5 votes including myself (not to mention 12 from the following question), I didn't expect anyone on this forum liked them aside from me.
Muse are hugely popular, dude
I'm pretty happy with the variety on the "other musicians" bit, seeing run the jewels so high up on that list made me happy. upset that I was the -only- person to put Caribou, though, they're so gooooood.
I'm not trying to whine or complain, sorry if it came off that way. If your favorite musical act is one of those top 10, then that's cool and that's your taste. I'm saying that the response is exactly what I expected it to be. It's music that nerdy teenagers on the internet (I am not excluded in that demographic) tend to like a lot. I like Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Modest Mouse, and Death Grips. All I'm saying is that it would be cool if people here were really into discovering music because it makes for good discussion. Not trying to attack or insult anyone who answered one of those bands, that would be beyond hypocritical.
But just because people's favorite bands are popular doesn't mean they don't listen to other stuff.
But just because people's favorite bands are popular doesn't mean they don't listen to other stuff.
You're totally right about that. I'm an example. I've just noticed the pattern where certain groups of people will listen to a certain group of bands and little else.
I'm just happy that one person other than the bf and I put Voltaire as one of their favorite artists I wish I knew who
-snip-
I'm just happy that one person other than the bf and I put Voltaire as one of their favorite artists I wish I knew who
I'm checking the summary and I'm only finding one person who put Voltaire as one of their favorite artists. That would be me.
I'm checking the summary and I'm only finding one person who put Voltaire as one of their favorite artists. That would be me.
I listed him under Aurelio Voltaire, bf just put Voltaire. Both of us put him in top artist, so separate field to where you did
It's such a mainstream internet nerd taste in music it's not even funny. It's music for people who don't want to think about music.
This is the stereotype being fulfilled in action. This is why I don't talk about music. It's just too polarizing and all too often so many people espouse this exact view. "Well that's just not underground enough". This "internet music underground cred" crap is just really stupid to me.
Wow, I'm the only one that likes Viza. [editline]18th February 2015[/editline] Also, someone put Rick and Morty as favorite movie of 2014
This is the stereotype being fulfilled in action. This is why I don't talk about music. It's just too polarizing and all too often so many people espouse this exact view. "Well that's just not underground enough". This "internet music underground cred" crap is just really stupid to me.
it's not at all about listening to "underground" music - my favorite musician is kanye west and he sells millions of albums, and vampire weekend and radiohead and other very mainstream musicians are my other favorites of all time. it's like people saying "the new call of duty is the best game ever!" when all they've played that year was titanfall and call of duty and battlefield 4. it's a laughably uninformed opinion - and it annoys enthusiasts just as much as gaming enthusiasts get annoyed by the kiddies who think call of duty is the best game ever made. it's just a very uninspired and bland choice to pick rammstein or linkin park as your favorite band of all time. they're good bands, sure, but it's like if the poll said "favorite drink" and "favorite snack" and the top answers were mountain dew and doritos - it's incredibly stereotypical of people who don't really listen to music outside of like 3 bands. they're good bands - but it says a lot about your knowledge of music if they're your absolute favorite bands of all time.
does it say anything about that at all though? Can't a person just like something because they like it? Rationalizing it off as a "ignorance" in all cases is a very assumptive line of reasoning. I mean, it's not like Radiohead or Kayne West are anything but some of the most well known names in their genres. So, when you start saying "well sure those mainstream bands show you know music, but these ones? No, you clearly can't" without a hint of irony, I'm going to stop talking to you. Entirely based on the idea you're missing the point and still acting superior without any actual justification, just arbitrary crap.
Everyone who likes British Invasion like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who. We should like, start a band :v:

The people who only responded with 1-2 mainstream bands are vastly in the minority.
My waifu was Ryuko Kiryuin she was extremely win in Kill La Kill.
I didn't put in a favourite band because it changes daily mostly
i skipped all the questions after the first page
Everyone who likes British Invasion like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who. We should like, start a band :v:
The Beatles pre-Help! and The Who pre-Sell Out are awful
A lot of people thing Batman Vs Superman will be the most disappointing film of 2015 when it releases in 2016. Also sweet that somebody else on this forum loves Arctic Monkeys. Bit gutted the music section didn't have a "what was your music highlight?" question. Also a bit on books would be good because people do honestly read books. [editline]19th March 2015[/editline]
The Beatles pre-Help! and The Who pre-Sell Out are awful
Not as good- sure. Awful? No way.
