Barley should really spaghett' about the mood being damaged by Spike getting a weapon. The game won't go any pasta if Spike insists on linguining in one area because he's scared of the zombies. Plus, there's a pretty deep conspiracy to unravioli, so the lack of a true "cannoli run away from enemies" experience isn't that much of a bigoni deal.
