He laughs at the mention of protective shoes and jackets. But when he talks about his charges - the Bouncing Bettys, the remote-controlled Mon 50s and the Type 72s - it is with an enthusiasm bordering on affection.
"I will do anything to make my country safe," he says. "Sometimes I get nervous, but that is rare. In 20 years I've never been injured."
His friend Am might beg to differ. He lost his [leg] years ago when he stepped on a Type 72. He has since stepped on six more mines, but each time the wooden leg is blown off. "But that was before he met me," Aki Ra says with a grin as he prises TNT away from a Russian PMN mine.
i can imagine am going back into the clinic to get a new leg, and the doctor goes "what the fuck, am? that's the 3rd time this week, stop blowing up your fucking leg!"
this video was far better than watching the whole hurt locker movie.
Seriously, war spawns the most twisted fucking minds, can you even imagine the discussion that led to a mine that has an anti tampering device in it?
"Yeah so our enemy is not dieing to landmines enough anymore, they're disarming them, what do we do? make it so that if they fuck with it, it BLOWS UP ANYWAYS even if people who disarm it years later have nothing to do with any of this!".
Jesus fuck
People like to not give a shit about what people in the future have to deal with.
Asian people dont fool around. There's this phillipino dude at my job who is like the tony hawk of forklift operating.
At least it didn't have an anti tampering device, they'd all be dead if it had.
Funny you say that. During the Vietnam War, the Australians made a massive 11 kilometer long minefield barrier around their area with non-retrievable mines, turns out the VC disarmed shit tons of them and reused them, probably one of the biggest military fuck ups.

Sounds interesting as fuck, got a link?
Holy shit, this guy must be one of the worlds foremost authorities on dealing with that era of landmine by this point, what a dude. I'd have shit myself cutting the rubber pad off. Spent most of the video wondering what they did with the charge afterwards, last few seconds answered that perfectly.
