Do you think the U.S uses cheap tactics to recruit to the military?
I just enlisted in the army and all that stuff is basic training. The vomiting is the gas chamber more than likely, where they train you to endure the effects. Non-lethal, but it sucks.
Didn't you play outside as a kid? Pussy. I'm fucking pumped to get my military career going.
I know that you testosterone riddled fuckhead. I'm from a military family and I know what the hell happens in basic. How about you wait until your raging hormones calm down before you go into the military with a head full of steam and die on some boring patrol mission from an IED. I'm just saying that I don't think everyone is going to find it super duper fun being under constant stress and occasionally getting sick due to the job. It also shows that the job requires a lot of physical exercise, which SUPRISINGLY some people don't like to do a whole lot of. So from the commercial they can see the military isn't for them.
Defend the right for others to rape everyone else. Die for them.

Where does rage like this even come from? you're so inexplicably angry that you come off like he just raped your mom dude
Peace sells but who's buying?
Who's trying?
Who's lying in the pool of blood dying?

Amazingly you can make someone a little angry someone off when you talk condescendingly to them, and then insult them. For no reason, at that.

all men are cremated equal
I'll tell you what's a cheap tactic. I got a call from a recruiter a while ago. He either was a teenager or someone who really sounded like one. This made my mom give me the phone because she thought it might have been one of my friends. I panicked, because I thought it was someone who I didn't remember. I figured it out after a while. In the end, I managed to annoy him a bit by talking about the army when he was a recruiter for the marines.
I actually looked at some ads from around the world a while back.
I enjoyed the Czech ad I found:

I also liked the Slovenian ad, it was quirky and pretty cool.

I like those ads that make it seem like a videogame. Except they forget to mention there is no respawn.
except they forget to mention there is no respawn.
yeah because everyone goes to some magical castle in the sky ran by some dead jewish guy and a couple of fat friars wearing togas, after they get blown up by an IED.
It's more cheap how a recruiter can manipulate you.. but normally it's just your mistake.
"Oh yeah Mr. Andersen, if you sign for the job Open Electronics you'll get to pick your Missile and Space Systems Electronic Maintenance job from the list in your 5th week of basic. But you need a job to go to basic... I can't tell you when that job will be available but right now Open Electronics is available for you. There's no worry you'll pick the job you want!"
And I signed it. And I picked a job alright. I picked a job of the list of 8 jobs, F-15/A-10/U-2 Flight controls, F15/A10/U2 Attack controls, Radio comm, ground comm, aircraft enviromental and electrical and 2 others I don't remember. Missile and Space Systems Electronic Maintenance wasn't on there.
I got the 3rd job I listed. BUT... I love it. So I can't complain really. I could be like people I've seen who got fucked over.
The commercials just want to make you seem interested.. that's all. If you think it's like the commercials you're kind of a dumbass... considering the AF trailer shows PJs and pilots basically.
Consider if everyone just put this one thing in the mind. Peace might be possible.
We are the only species known alive in this entire universe as of right now. We are the only thing that exists, we have only been around for a recorded amount of 3,000 years. We are a tiny spec in this system we call a "Universe." The moment we destroy ourselves, time will not remember us, everything will continue to move on and evolution will take place if it does again. If anything, we should try and preserve our existence. If not, then for all we know there will be no more life. All of us at the end of the day are human beings, we drink water, we eat food, we do our jobs, and most importantly, we all love.
Why is it so hard for people to realize this? Really.
A few problems with this:
1. We are NOT the only species alive in the entire universe. There are millions of species on this very planet.
2. We have been around for a LOT longer than 3,000 years, recorded history starts 6,000 years ago with humans existing up to 200,000 years ago.
3. Even if every nuke on Earth was set off right now it wouldn't wipe us out, it's take a cosmic event to do something like that.
4. Humans are selfish bastards. We can't help it it's programmed into us. "Take care of yourself and your group, others are competition and competition takes away resources you need." That's how we see the world, yes we can say we're all human and it's sad when a disaster happens, but when it happens thousands of kilometers away you don't really care. You stop, comment on how sad it is and move on, because ultimitely it doesn't effect you.
In ways they use cheap tactics like showing off the hardware and vehicles. Sometimes they even show soldiers using prototype equipment.

Hey come join the military you're gonna die!
That's not how you recruit people. Why don't we blame ads/commercials/marketers for making things seem better then they are?

A ̶f̶e̶w̶ problem with this:
1. You seriously tore up my entire paragraph on how human behavior is so wrong in today's society just to go and prove me wrong on a couple of my mistakes without getting the big picture. You're a great example of what's wrong with our society. Thanks.

If you're trying to make a point, get your facts straight. If we were all killed right now what would happen? Nothing. We are insignificant. We don't matter in the slightest way. Nothing we do is ever going to matter because in a few million years we wont even be dust, just a thin layer of plastic on a few worlds if we're lucky.
What's wrong with our society is that we think we matter. If everyone realised that nothing we do really matters they'd stop trying to force their beliefs on eveeryone else and our brief existence would be slightly more bearable.
People like you exclaiming that "There's something wrong with our society" are what's wrong with our society.
you're both what is wrong with our society, there should be more of me in our society :smug:

It is sad to think that there is someone on this planet who believes we're insignificant. I have one question to propose to you and don't answer it with "coincidence" because that'll be your only answer. If we're insignificant, then why do we all have a purpose? Why are we here? Everyone on this planet has an ultimate purpose, we were placed here for a reason on this planet, and we should all be working together rather than dividing ourselves from each other. At the end of the day whether you like to admit it or not, you are a part of everyone. You are a part of the Family of the Human Race. And to be honest, I am confident that Humanity will continue to live on in the future a million years from now with the way technology continues advancing, and extraordinarily too as well.
We all do matter, people have beliefs because they cannot stand the thought of death, everyone wants to be right. But nobody realizes the bigger picture that what's after death isn't important, what happens here is more important because it will ultimately affect us all. If we don't work together, our entire species, our memories, our work will be all for nothing which is why we must continue to push forward and not backward. Which is why we must bring ourselves together, and work together.
People like you, are what makes society, a disappointment.
And just so you know before you ask me if I'm a christian or catholic, or even think of it. I'm not, I was baptized yeah, but I'm agnostic.
I wish Hitler came back to life. America needs to be the good guys again

well thats kind of depressing. If we play are card right we could last millions of years. its all about surviving this brief part in time when we like killing each other for resources.
It is sad to think that there is someone on this planet who believes we're insignificant. There are billions upon billions of stars in the sky, so many that when we look at the deepest, darkest parts of space all we see are more stars. Each star is potentially orbited by planets, each planet potentially contains life. So yes, in a cosmic sense we are insignificant. That's no reason to give up, we're insignificant but we're still important. I have one question to propose to you and don't answer it with "coincidence" because that'll be your only answer. If we're insignificant, then why do we all have a purpose? What purpose? To reproduce? That's hardly a purpose, it's more an automatic impulse. We don't have a purpose, we just are. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Why are we here?A mixture of carbon, oxygen and water got sloshed together along with proteins and made DNA, it mutated and made life. It's not coincidence it's chemistry. Everyone on this planet has an ultimate purpose, we were placed here for a reason on this planet, and we should all be working together rather than dividing ourselves from each other.I must not have gotten the letter, because I don't have any purpose. I only exist because my parents were drunk and horny, not because there's some grand plan which placed me here. And the whole we have to work together thing, I agree it'd be much better if there were no wars and everyone worked for mutual advancement, but it only takes one bastard to ruin it all. At the end of the day whether you like to admit it or not, you are a part of everyone. You are a part of the Family of the Human Race. And to be honest, I am confident that Humanity will continue to live on in the future a million years from now with the way technology continues advancing, and extraordinarily too as well. I am a member of the human race, and we probably will go on to populate the stars. But even if we last 10 billion years and take over the whole Milky Way, we still only hold one of millions of millions of galaxies. So no matter what we do, when we finally die off we'll mean nothing. It's sad and I wish it wasn't true but it is. The most significant impact we'll have on a non-terrestrial species is as enslavers, benefactors, reveared gods (before or/and after our extinction) or we'll have the ever loving shit blown out of us.
We all do matter, people have beliefs because they cannot stand the thought of death, everyone wants to be right. We matter to each other, but beyond that we don't yet. And everyone wants to be right but not everyone can be. It's easier to say you're right when it's a philisophical or political question, but science always has set answers and clinging on to something which is wrong because you don't like what's right is holding us back. But nobody realizes the bigger picture that what's after death isn't important, what happens here is more important because it will ultimately affect us all. I would argue that what happens after we die is most important, because our children will benefit/suffer for our actions. I get what you mean though, what happens to us after we die, whether we go to heaven (we don't) or rot in the ground (we do) is unimportant. Life isn't a rehearsal, as they say, we only get one shot. If we don't work together, our entire species, our memories, our work will be all for nothing which is why we must continue to push forward and not backward. Which is why we must bring ourselves together, and work together. But individual countries will always be selfish dicks who steal from, kill and lie to each other. You have to go past that and ignore the bullshit. I'm saying that a lot of people CAN'T. I agree that if we stopped killing each other for one damn generation we might actually get something done, but until then we'll remain what we are, insignificant.
People like you, are what makes society, a disappointment. Why, I'm just pointing out that others are too busy killing each other and trying to dictate what others should do. If everyone realised they they, as an individual, are NOT the most important person in the world we'd have less bullshit clogging everything up. "Oh no, my kids might see a boobie after 9PM. I must sue someone!" Those people need to get over themselves.
And just so you know before you ask me if I'm a christian or catholic, or even think of it. I'm not, I was baptized yeah, but I'm agnostic. Why would I care? I was born and raised a Catholic, I went to all Catholic schools and went to church with my grandparents, and I'm an Atheist. I don't see how that effects the discussion at hand. I've known great Muslims, Christians and Jews and I've known a lot of retarded Atheists. You're religion doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I'll post my reply to this tomorrow as it's 2:09 AM (( I'll edit this post tomorrow ))
But to keep on-topic here at the same time, the military does go around a lot of ways to try and recruit, OP.
The thing I never understood is why they don't have .gov domains for this. It's literally commercialized.
They do sugarcoat the advertising, but if you ask them they actually tell you about the benefits from military service.

I'm fighting for the U.S, and I'm not stupid. The only thing that's personally even got me thinking about it is veterans day.
I think you're taking that wrong.
If you run off to join the army as soon as you see a recruitment ad there is something wrong with you.
My old high-school had drag racing cars on stage and chin-up competitions. You'd even get out of class if you participated in their events.
What does drag racing have to do with the army? :smith:

Oh, right, I believe they do go a little overboard to recruit people sometimes... like at my highschool. :saddowns:
The car was cool though.

Facepunch needs a military sub-forum, especially good for those enlisted or thinking of enlisting/not yet enlisted.
