Some Aussie recruitment ads: Army Navy RAAF
The thing I never understood is why they don't have .gov domains for this. It's literally commercialized.
Only their recruitment websites use .com domains. Their main websites use .mil(www.army.mil, etc.)
Its all just advertising. Not unlike what toy companies do with those fake ass kids with their fake ass smiles having way too much fun with some crappy toy thats WAY overpriced. I don't hate the military, a job is a job, but if you join up thinking everyone that they recruit is completely safe from any combat and will be able to just collect free money, then you are an idiot.
It is sad to think that there is someone on this planet who believes we're insignificant. I have one question to propose to you and don't answer it with "coincidence" because that'll be your only answer. If we're insignificant, then why do we all have a purpose? Why are we here? Everyone on this planet has an ultimate purpose, we were placed here for a reason on this planet, and we should all be working together rather than dividing ourselves from each other. At the end of the day whether you like to admit it or not, you are a part of everyone. You are a part of the Family of the Human Race. And to be honest, I am confident that Humanity will continue to live on in the future a million years from now with the way technology continues advancing, and extraordinarily too as well. We all do matter, people have beliefs because they cannot stand the thought of death, everyone wants to be right. But nobody realizes the bigger picture that what's after death isn't important, what happens here is more important because it will ultimately affect us all. If we don't work together, our entire species, our memories, our work will be all for nothing which is why we must continue to push forward and not backward. Which is why we must bring ourselves together, and work together. People like you, are what makes society, a disappointment. And just so you know before you ask me if I'm a christian or catholic, or even think of it. I'm not, I was baptized yeah, but I'm agnostic.
AHAHAAH HE THINKS HUMANS HAVE A PURPOSE What purpose do we fulfil, really? We could all spontaneously die, and nothing would change, the earth would continue to exist, in fact a lot of endangered species would begin to recover immediately, the planet would start to scrub itself and the shit we've pumped into the oceans and skies would start to be dealt with. There's no such thing as an inherent purpose for people, just the ones we create for ourselves but even that is an illusion. And it's also another sad fact that while people create their own beliefs and take them from others you also get folk who maliciously try to take from others and kill others, which is why armies are required. You're hoping for an entire shift in the entire collective consciousness of everyone in the world for us to actually pull together, that will most probably never happen until we are all faced by one massive threat.
Some norwegian recruitment ads: Special forces: Armed forces: Air force: Most of the commercials are the same type as you find in the ones posted prior to mine, it's not just the US military but any other military in the world.
:frog: I'm fighting for the U.S, and I'm not stupid. The only thing that's personally even got me thinking about it is veterans day.
No, you are wrong. Anyone who is willing to die for a country that wouldn't die for them is an A-class idiot. On the other hand, you have pioneers in science that are making billions and are living in the lap of luxury. Which one would you rather be?
Is that Captain Anderson I hear in the Navy ad? Sign me up.
Videogames do it for them. /troll

You have to fight against that fact, and make something of yourself, [editline]4th January 2011[/editline] Absurdism: Like nihilism but less depressing.
Well theres really no recruitment ads here in finland because army is mandatory. If you resist you're going to jail.
That aus Navy ad made me rage. All I could think of was one of the numerous hipster phone/camera/ipad commercials.

Games aren't cheap man. :v:
I found the old aussie ads for the military so funny... It was basicly "LOL WATCH HOW FAST WE CAN DO THIS! WE DID IT IN 40 SECS! GIVE US A AWARD!"
Yeah it's bullshit. They come to your school talking about all benefits of becoming a member of the branch they're recruiting for and never tell you anything negative. Like the fact you could be shot.
Better then our shitty commercial. Germany:
I can't say you see that many recruiting videos in the uk and the ones that arn't like the american videos. "Army be the best"
what's fucked up is that it's a federal crime to not register for the draft
It is but you can pretend you never heard about it and they can't charge you. The only retarded thing about it is that you can't get financial aid if you don't, it's also kind of automatic.

As soon as you turn 18 you're automatically signed up for the Selective Service.
Well, I'm joining the British army at the end of this year (Ideally). But as people have said, advertisements didn't really factor into it, it was probably more to do with the influence games have had on me in all honesty. Growing up playing games like Rainbow Six, Operation Flashpoint etc., it's obviously going to have made me more inclined. However, I never really seriously thought about joining up until Septemberish last year, up until then I was thinking I'd be happy with a run-of-the-mill desk job. [editline]4th January 2011[/editline]
I can't say you see that many recruiting videos in the uk and the ones that arn't like the american videos. "Army be the best"
A few years ago, at the start and during the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, we had those adverts all over the bloody telly. The ones I do remember were quite similar to the USMC one in the OP.
Why are people in general so god damn stupid? Excuse my french, I'm from the TF2 section where people aren't usually this god damn stupid.
Excuse my french, I'm from the TF2 section where people aren't usually this god damn stupid.
you might wanna double check that
because people that play TF2 have more intelligence
No, because who the hell would want to join if they showed soldiers getting mowed down by gunfire and getting screamed at by their commanders.
I saw a British armed forces one that was similar to the Air Force one up there (Which, incidentally, looks like a cross between CoD, Halo, and Metroid. I think.) where they were on a Mars-like landscape and fighting and it morphed into an Afghanistan-like place with modern people.
I guarantee you most people who join the armed forces don't care about the adverts.
Well theres really no recruitment ads here in finland because army is mandatory. If you resist you're going to jail.
There are recruitment ads. We still have civil service and the ads are trying to get people to not choose that option.
Well theres really no recruitment ads here in finland because army is mandatory. If you resist you're going to jail.
They should have ads for jail
If people knew exactly what they were getting in for they probably wouldn't sign up.
If people knew exactly what they were getting in for they probably wouldn't sign up.
Showing residents of your country getting gunned down doesn't really do good to your morale.
