Do you think the U.S uses cheap tactics to recruit to the military?

Recently I saw a advert for the Green Berets. It looks really cool. Everyone was holding snipers. It looks like a real life Sniper: Ghost Warrior or CoD mission.
all men are cremated equal
I hold this truth to be self-evident
That all men may be cremated equal!
Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Alamogordo, Bikini...
Yes, it's up to the people, ‘cause the atoms don't care,
You can't fence me in, I'm just like air.
I don't give a hoot about any politics
Or who got what into whichever fix
All I want to do is sit around and have my nucleus bombarded by neutrons.
They came to my highschool last year, some people were saying afterward they were joining if we go to war with Korea, which is a very far stretch. Also, I got a letter in the mail saying that if they needed to re-instate the draft I would join the army, I also had to register with the selective service commision, this was when I started college. I've seen several US army commercials, and people would be stupid joining from simply viewing them.
God damn, the ADF actually made a recruitment music video:

Oh god the Airforce ad.
Fucking awesome bullshit if you ask me, but still awesome.

I'm fighting for the U.S, and I'm not stupid. The only thing that's personally even got me thinking about it is veterans day.
Sure you could like being a soldier because of the pay and other things but please dont think your helping by being in that country.
it's like you think the military is super dangerous right now and that you'll die just because you're in it
it's not like we're doing a lot, you'll probably be sitting around a lot
AHAHAAH HE THINKS HUMANS HAVE A PURPOSE
What purpose do we fulfil, really?
We could all spontaneously die, and nothing would change, the earth would continue to exist, in fact a lot of endangered species would begin to recover immediately, the planet would start to scrub itself and the shit we've pumped into the oceans and skies would start to be dealt with.
There's no such thing as an inherent purpose for people, just the ones we create for ourselves but even that is an illusion.
And it's also another sad fact that while people create their own beliefs and take them from others you also get folk who maliciously try to take from others and kill others, which is why armies are required.
You're hoping for an entire shift in the entire collective consciousness of everyone in the world for us to actually pull together, that will most probably never happen until we are all faced by one massive threat.
Hey I have as much purpose as I want to have. sure its not like the universe needs us but hey I and most humans like living so thats enough for me. Not to mention you could call humanities stupidity as a massive threat.

Yea what I hear from people who came back from the military. they say its 99% being bored and 1% being scared out of your mind.
Yes, but they also show the pride and sacrifice that it truly takes. You have to sacrifice your old self, and it shows that. They aren't allowed to show the life threatening parts, so they don't.
As far as the thread title goes: yes. I mean the army one doesn't even show combat which, you'd think, would be the point of having an army, especially the American army. On the other hand if you're willing to throw away your life in one of the many unwinnable wars for politicians that would turn their back on you and your war the minute it's unpopular, justified or not, I don't think the ad is going to sway you either way.
What I really find offensive is the Air Force one. It's pretty clearly aimed at kids, or at the very least people naive enough to associate Call of Duty with reality.

Care to explain?
I don't see what there is to explain. It compares action and sci-fi movies and games to the experience you'll have in the Air Force.

You have to agree that they are trying to make it seem like a videogame.

you don't die as soon as you join the military as you think.

I doubt many joins because the commercial reminded them of some video games.

Well it has to be working or else they wouldnt keep on acting like its call of duty or halo in there ads.
Every type of advertisement does this.

Australia used this for its AFL ad
People join the military because they want to join. Not because they saw a flashy add on the television.

The army one sounds way different
I always thought the Air Force one was cool
It just pisses me off that they are trying to recruit in my school. They say obvious bullshit lies that the more stupid side of the school actually BELIEVES.
First let me say, I'm a US Marine.
Second, no shit, it's called advertisement. They are trying to get you to "buy a product", or in this case, buy into the fact it will be fun. Every country wants to glorify their military to make people want to join.
Thirdly, in my platoon and even my company, NO ONE was was like "durp, what am I doing in Afghanistan, I thought we'd be running around the States doing cool bad ass shit and blowing up training targets". We were ALL prepared (as much as one can be) for war, we all KNEW we'd be going to war and we all fought with honor, courage and commitment. No one who joins the Marines thinks it will be fun. You join because your a crazy mother fucker and you want to be a lean green fighting machine. And if you do join because you think it will be like playing CoD, the three months of boot camp and then the next three months of infantry training will beat you into shape and the right mental mind-set.
Fuck your rainbows.
I wonder if the military plays Call of Duty.
I wonder if the military plays Call of Duty.
Fuck yeah, we do. If we're not on duty, we're either at a strip club or playing video games. At least us younger guys anyways. However, if we're in Afghanistan, our options are a little more limited...
I'm sorry but knowing the radius of a trapezoid is not going to improve my life.
It's pretty damn worthless to me, and I'm more interested in shit that I find value in. (i.e. protecting you people from dying because you think the world is going to unite peacefully)
I'm sorry are you trying to channel R. Lee Ermy with your supertough badass jarhead act because you are definitely failing to convince me
One of the big selling points for the military is it'll teach you skills you'll use in the civilian world
Which is completely true, Unless you become a gunbunny. What use are the skills (other than law enforcement) does an 11B Infantryman bring back to the civilian workplace
if you don't want to be in the military as a career, then do something that's used everywhere. Get into Networking, intelligence, anything to do with computers, work on aircraft, something of that nature
Well to to tell you the truth it looks good on a resume and free college?
But like the marines one, it just shows all of the exciting exhilarating stuff. It's almost like a scam.
i dont really see why puking is exhilarating
