i like the one where the marine goes through the death labyrinth then fights a lava monster then transforms into dress blues
The united states puts out these awesome looking commercials, but almost makes these branches of military look fun rather than life threatening. They kind of almost show a fake image of what it would be like to be in the army. They show hard work, but not the pain in the ass it is really going to be. - But like the marines one, it just shows all of the exciting exhilarating stuff. It's almost like a scam.
1)First of all, all the commercials try to be inspiring so people can go sign up and serve their country. 2)That's actually what they do and this "...fun..." that you mentioned, allthough exists, the commercial isn't about. 3)And the Marines, that's the best 30 second summary of Boot Camp you can ever get. 4)It's obvious they are life threatening. 5)That's what they do in the Army. They showed the truth, just the best aspects of it...hell they showed truth in every commercial. 6) That "hard work" might be a "Pain in the Ass" for you, but for me I would call that a challenge. ...now Recruiters...that's a different story.
Well to to tell you the truth it looks good on a resume and free college?
At the cost of your dignity though
At the cost of your dignity though
How un-dignifying is it to serve your country and put your ass in the line to save lives so you (If you're American) can sit on your ass and browse through facepunch dude? Seriously? Show some respect.
The training is undignifying.
Training is dignifying, it shows that you accomplished something that looked hard to do. (Not speaking for everyone here) But,in short, training is dignifying.
God, that "I am an American Soldier" part makes me laugh so hard. Pathetic use of psychology to gain recruits, and yet some people are stupid enough... Germany just had forced Service, its kind of infamous, but at least they spare us the propaganda. The Airforce part is the worst one, they are flipping Airforce and Airborne. And the part with "To help less fortunate" makes me mad, remember when it came out that they were killing innocent civilians? [editline]6th January 2011[/editline]
Yes, but they also show the pride and sacrifice that it truly takes. You have to sacrifice your old self, and it shows that. They aren't allowed to show the life threatening parts, so they don't.
Yeah, you have to sacrifice your anal-virginity
I remember when some UK soldiers came to my school, they made us do training exercises and when me and some friends didn't put all our effort into it (not everyone wants to run a obstacle course at 9am, who knew!) they just ripped on us and called us 'pussies'. Afterwards, they ripped into this Muslim kid, making fun of his name and calling him a fat piece of shit, so yeah, great advertising in Britain. (I know not every soldier are like these guys, but to me a lot of douche bags who get the wrong idea join the army)

You can be a complete retard, you'll stay a low-rank though.
You don't need any intelligence to get into the army. You can be a complete retard, you'll stay a low-rank though.
Yeah, it was low ranks who were tormenting us and when their Sargent showed up to give a talk they shut there mouths pretty quickly. Just doesn't seem like a place for me, you would think dealing with death and war as a profession would make you more mature but I guess I over estimated how stupid some people can be.
I'm sorry but knowing the radius of a trapezoid is not going to improve my life. It's pretty damn worthless to me, and I'm more interested in shit that I find value in. (i.e. protecting you people from dying because you think the world is going to unite peacefully)
Its not the material thats important, its the skills you learn from the material. Math teaches you how to apply learned knowledge, reason and logic to a situation that gives you certain parameters and variables. The military teaches you core skills like discipline. Will you ever need to know how to direct an air-air missile in a normal job? No, but it teaches you other things.
All militaries use cheap recruiting tactics, no person normally wants to go for a job where getting one's arm blown off is par for the course. When I got called up for a conscription information session and medical checkup, while the officers were busy doing bugger knows what, we sat through a series of videos about the different branches. The one for the Air Force was practically like Top Gun with odd accents and F/A-18s
Cheap tactics? these ads are FUCKING EXPENSIVE [editline]6th January 2011[/editline] Cant believe no-one has said that yet
Yeah it's bullshit. They come to your school talking about all benefits of becoming a member of the branch they're recruiting for and never tell you anything negative. Like the fact you could be shot.
If you need to be told you can get shot, then it's probably best you stay in bed for your whole life being spoon fed like the drooling retard you are. That would just be depressing. Besides if they're teaching kids and shit they probably haven't been out on tour, maybe.
How could anyone take that Japanese navy ad seriously? Actually, how could anyone take japan seriously?
How could anyone take that Japanese navy ad seriously? Actually, how could anyone take japan seriously?
/a/ . . .
/a/ . . .
Ah, some of us would like to forget that 4chan doesn't exist anymore. Its more pathetic than it is funny these days.
Why the fuck would be dead serious when you're facing death? That would just be depressing. It was pretty disgusting, it may not be this way in the US or where ever, but in Britain it seems like complete chavy dicks are the only people who join.
Yes they do use cheap tactics to recruit into the military. But, they need more people in the army, etc to meet their quota bla bla bla. So where's the best place in today's society? Oh, let's go to a High School where most students are bound to not go to college, or drop out and pick them up. Welcome to Society, it's fucked up.
You are aware that the US military, especially the Army, has too MANY soldiers? They're making it harder to get in. Plus, I might join the Army. Not because of some commercialbut because I have for years now and it'll suit me. Anyone in the military now didn't join because of some stupid ad. They joined because they want to and put a lot of thought into it.
A lot of people are drawn into the US military because of the amount of benefits it gives like health care per example, that's a big primary reason to join.

Or they are self-centered/loving douchebags that only joined to show off how tough they are...there are people like that.

Some commit suicide, some go mentally insane, some just fake something to get out. I saw two kids commit suicide, one slit his wrists and the other shot himself in the head. Of course, this is Marine boot camp and not Army basic training. The two things are very different and have completely different atmospheres. I'm in no way cutting the Army down (I have Army friends and family) -- all I'm saying is they are two different kinds of training.

I guess I meant to say majority know what they're getting theirselves into. Or maybe half to a majority. [editline]6th January 2011[/editline] It's crazy to think people go insane during boot camp. I mean fuck, it's not that fucking hard. Just don't be a bitch and run some miles and do PT.
The US military pulls it's people disproportionately from the poor, disadvantaged, and undereducated parts of our society. Their commercials and marketing tactics are designed to appeal to that. Though, IMO, their most powerful recruiting tool still lies in promising those people some way out of their situations in life.
If Keith David tells you to join an organization, you should do it.
If they include gay rights, no
They really don't need these commercials when they have America's Army and every single modern CoD game to convince people that the army is fun, easy, and full of action, and SO "tacticool". The only remotely interesting job is being a UAV pilot because it's a hell of a lot safer and easier than going through soldier training, plus I never have to leave the safety of the Continental U.S. [editline]7th January 2011[/editline]
The US military pulls it's people disproportionately from the poor, disadvantaged, and undereducated parts of our society. How do you mentally and physically prepare yourself for boot camp or BCT?
