• Do you think the U.S uses cheap tactics to recruit to the military?
The united states puts out these awesome looking commercials, but almost makes these branches of military look fun rather than life threatening. They kind of almost show a fake image of what it would be like to be in the army. They show hard work, but not the pain in the ass it is really going to be. For example, 4 videos of each branch. Army Marines Navy Air Force Oh just for lols, japaneese recruitment ad: But like the marines one, it just shows all of the exciting exhilarating stuff. It's almost like a scam.
Be glad that you are not being forced to join the military like in Russian. Once you hit 18 you are forced to join the military for a year.
I honestly don't see a difference between the Army, and the Marines. But, anyways, I think that it's pretty much false-jobvertising? Because, honestly, if you are in the air force or anything of those sorts you will never be able to use nightvision, thermal, or any of that. They're just trying to make there job sound badass and loaded with special effects to draw kids in. And the Japanese's tactics are hilarious.

In other words, the Navy comes in from the water and the Army stays on land like it's supposed to. I quite like the swedish army/Nordic battlegroup commercials
What the hell?
The message is: Bitches love tanks
If they didn't ever get recruits because they showed truthful adverts, then they would have to start the draft again and that would suck 100 times worse.
This is fucking silly. Abloo bloo, movie trailers are cheap tactics to get us into the cinema
While I was at recruit training for Australian army, I hated it while I was there. But once I finished I realised it was one of the best things I've ever done
Yea what I hear from people who came back from the military. they say its 99% being bored and 1% being scared out of your mind.
I was going to explain this earlier in the thread, but I couldn't be bothered. Pretty much: Unless you are Infantry or some other COMBAT MOS, you're probably not going to see combat in any direct form. 80% of personnel in any branch is actually non-combat, people act like as soon as you sign up an imaginary artillery round lands on your head in the recruiting office.

Marines - Quality, Army - Quantity. Marines, The Few The Proud The Marines. Army, I am Army strong. Uhhh that's big differences if you really pay attention to their mottos. Marines are badasses that complete brutual training while the Army (Yes it's true) tries to get their Recruits through training and change some tests so they get a better/easier pass through it. Marines have the same training and they wont change it for anyone. Marines are under more rules also, and they are selected better with no/almost none criminal backgrounds. While Army is responsible for crazy gang members joining it. I don't remember what it's called but there was an incident where a couple supremacist Army guys came back from a tour and killed a couple of superiors because they didn't like em...that means they don't show respect to the rank and authority, something that doesn't (Hopefully) happen in the Marines. That's just some reasons, I have alot more to say but I dont want to be banned for crazy hardcore flaming since some FPers are Army Peeps. Marines are also called "The Tip of the Spear" and are known to do crazy shit (Not necessarily all Army Guys) Army guys dont do. I can't prove this without good info but my friends in the service told me that thanks to them about 70% of the missions in Combat Zones get accomplished. That says something. Yes they are on Boats (A really small amount of the time) , the other is that they F'ing do alot of land operations, if not all, also. Marines have Aviation also, and so does fucking Army. They are not fully dedicated to only 1 type of warfare...anymore. If the "Dumb" falls under flaming, I appologize, just send me a PM to remove that. I would not like a ban...thanks. THERMAL? SPECIAL EFFECTS?(Maybe) But I can assure you , that if you know your mother efffin' branches you will know that there are alot more ground elements for AF. Para Rescue? They also have special squads for other shit that are amazingly badass, most even not official. All of them use the shit you said they don't use. IF ITS FUCKING BUILT FOR COMBAT THEN ITS BEING USED BY EVERY BRANCH...especially basic shit like Night and Thermal. Most of the FPers that are commenting on this don't know shiii about these. Keep your comments to yourself and stop acting smart, do your homework before posting info and check the same info on 3 different sources.
Recruiters don't talk to fat kids :smug: :smith:
Recruiters don't talk to fat kids :smug: :smith:
They do, but they straight up not let you sign up and tell you to "Loose the weight"
I'm all for the U.S. Air Force, but they need to make their commercials look enticing to get people to join. Besides, "It's not science fiction. It's what we do everyday." How badass.
Not true. When I was in Marine boot camp, there were tons of stupid kids who didn't know what they were getting into. Some commit suicide, some go mentally insane, some just fake something to get out. I saw two kids commit suicide, one slit his wrists and the other shot himself in the head. Of course, this is Marine boot camp and not Army basic training. The two things are very different and have completely different atmospheres. I'm in no way cutting the Army down (I have Army friends and family) -- all I'm saying is they are two different kinds of training.

Any tips for someone who wants to enlist in the Marine Corps or Army some day? How do you mentally and physically prepare yourself for boot camp or BCT?
First off, if you think you can handle it, go for the Marines. The training is harder, and geared more towards learning on how to actually fight in combat and become as physically and mentally fit as possible. This means you and those around will know what they are doing meaning everyone will have a better survival rate. Not only is the training harder, but during the time you spend at boot camp your mental capacity to deal with major fucking stress will be pushed to it's limit. This means, when you DO see combat (because you WILL when you join the Marines) you're chances of coming out of a tour without any mental problems from combat (unlike many soldiers in the Army) will be better as well. I've done and seen my share of fighting in Afghanistan. I've seen Army soldiers in combat, and it is a sad thing. Only the vets really know what they are doing. The fresh out of SOI PFC (E-2) has the combat training and knowledge of an E-5 in the Army... the only thing they lack is the experience. Again I'm not disrespecting the Army. I'm just speaking from of what I've seen from them and also from my friends and family in the Army. Now in order to prepare for boot camp: 1. Run. Run, run, run, run and run some more. And then do it again. And more after that. Run till you puny little fucking legs fall off and your lungs and heart rupture. Seriously. In the Marines you have a PFT (Physical Fitness Test) that you run a couple times a year (and twice in boot camp, in which you need to pass to graduate) and you get a score on it, which counts towards your next promotion. The running part is three miles. I forget what the longest males get -- I think it's 33 minutes. However, the best time that can be achieved is 18 minutes flat. I don't know how good a runner, or how physically fit you are but start running. If you can't run three miles start off small with one mile. Ideally you want to run two to three times a week, otherwise your cardio-system dies and goes back to normal after a short while. And don't over do it. Running injuries are easy to get, and if you aren't used to it you can fuck up your joints and get shin splints. Stretch and warm up for a good 20-30 minutes before a run. You need really good running shoes to protect your body from injury. If you're serious, I suggest to go to a professional running shoe store and have them find a shoe that fits your foot shape and the way your foot hits the deck, they'll do a few tests on you, and it will be quite expensive but it's worth it. Shoes that do not fit properly can contribute to a lot of running injuries. Next are pull-ups. Not let-me-go-half-way-down-then-back-up-pull-ups, anyone can do those. Start with your arms completely locked out, then go up so your chin clears the bar and back down to fully extended arms. Otherwise they do not count. The best score is 20, the minimum is three -- if you go in doing three you will get fucked up... a lot. You have to do MULTIPLE sets of pull ups throughout the day EVERY DAY to see improvement. Next are crunches. The Marine Corps method is grabbing your biceps so your arms are across your chest. You sit up so your elbows touch your thighs and come back down so your shoulder blades touch the deck. That counts as 1 sit up. You get two minutes to complete 100 for the maximum score. I believe 43 is the minimum. There is also a CFT (combat fitness test) just Google that... 2. Knowledge. Study your Marine Corps knowledge. Enlisted and officer ranks & insignia, history, battles, important people in the Corps (past and present), know who the current Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps and Commandant of the Marine Corps are, for god sake know the Marine Corps Birthday. Learn as much as you can, and memorize it all as if your life depended on it. 3. Volume, speed and intensity. Scream at the top of your lungs ALL OF THE FUCKING TIME while you are in boot camp. Move the fastest you have ever moved. If you do these things, you will be okay. Even if you do something wrong, if you're doing those three things you won't get fucked up AS bad. Be prepared to lose your voice, it will happen, and if it doesn't you aren't screaming loud enough. Once your voice heals after a day or so, you will have a new voice capable of things you never thought you could do -- it's actually pretty cool. 4. Be prepared to have THE WORST TIME OF YOUR FUCKING LIFE. It is NOT easy. EVERYTHING is confusing, and complicated and it is made to be so on purpose. You will be made to do ridiculous and/or humiliating and/or impossible things over and over until you pop. You barely get time to eat, you barely get time to shower, you barely get time to piss and shit, you have no time to yourself, and you can't even sleep in peace. You will learn to appreciate chow and rack time, as those are the only breaks from training you will get (even though you still are getting fucked with and screamed during those times as well). Learn how to stuff your face with as much food AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. You WILL be malnourished and you will want to avoid this as much as possible. Learn to love water and drink as much as possible. It is all you will get. You do get plenty of opportunities to fill your canteens so drink, drink, drink. If you pass out due to dehydration the Corpsman will be shoving the "silver bullet" up your ass, WITHOUT lube, IN FRONT OF EVERYONE to check your internal temperature. You don't want to lose your anal virginity to a man with a big thermometer, do you? 5. You will get sick. Very sick. 80 people in a platoon, sleeping, shitting, showering, eating all in close quarters breeds disease. Don't share canteens. EVER. If you run out of water, oh fucking-well. You will get very sick. Or worse, mono. You don't want that. Avoid going to the BAS (Base Aid Station) unless you are very sick -- like mono, or pneumonia. Your DI's will send you if you ask (though you will pay for it later) but if you miss too much training you will get dropped to a new platoon. That means you will be in boot camp longer than the normal three months and have to start completely over with a new platoon full of people you don't know and new DI's you don't know. You really don't want that. 6. Learn to be a team player. Help someone who is struggling. If someone is doing something wrong, tell them so they learn and can fix it. Tell someone to shut the fuck up who is talking. Show the DI's you've got balls and that you can be a leader and they'll love you (as much as they could love a butt crack nasty recruit). 7. Respect the DI's. They are geniuses. Remember that they do everything for a reason and love their job. They have such a hard job and spend months at a time away from their families (most are married and have kids) to train piece of shit recruits and make them into lean, disciplined, physically fit Marines. Do not take anything they do to you personally, no matter if it's dunking your head in the toilet or kicking you in the chest. Your probably saying "wtf" but trust me, it's their job and they do it well. You will realize at the end of training (if you make it) why everything happened the way it did and you will love and remember them for the rest of your life, no matter how you thought of them during training. Overall, you will look back on everything and laugh about it, and realize how much fun you actually had, and you will miss it. Training is a blast, and you learn all kinds of really cool things. That's really all I can think of for now. If you have any other questions just ask.

They both perform amazing things and they both go through the same hell. END OF.
