I think it's just a difference in culture though, this has always been the attitude in the UK about anything (The blitz during WW2, the IRA bombings etc) it seems.
And that is why our country has remained independent for almost 1000 years.
There is to much Corporate greed in the world right now this is why there are terrorists well most of them anyway. Think about this. CEOs get paid tens of millions of dollars per year to do whatever it is they do right? What if you got ten million dollars ONCE in your life? You'd be set you'd never work again you'd buy a huge house just to shit in a different toilet depending on what day of the week it is. Apparently shitting in a different toilet depending on the day of the week isn't good enough for the leader of a corporation they want to shit in a different 5 million dollar house depending on the day of the week. Is what they do really worth tens of millions per year a figure that a normal person in America could live off of for the rest of their lives? This is why there are people that hate our countries they advertise that it's so easy to get rich but really are any of us here going to be a CEO? Is it really necessary to pay these people all this money? I'm sure they can live just as comfortable on a lower sum of money. If you cut all those CEOs pay by lets say 15% do you know how many more jobs that would create? Do you know how many people that could feed? It's fucking mind blowing how much money these people steal from the people because that's what their doing, it's all corrupt it's all made for the guys in charge to make that fat bank
If they're actively trying to create a problem, which they are right now, yes. But it's not an excuse for all of the new ridiculous security policies being put through international standards. Too much fear of them is just that, fear, in which they have accomplished their goal. We've been taken down by our own fears, if we tried to create logical solutions to these problems they would be just as bad as a street gang. What kind of technology do they really have that can kill us in mass numbers? Underpants bombs? Psh.
I often deal with gang members and murders on a regular basis. A person is more likely to get killed from one of them or become a victim of a crime then they are from a terrorist. I partly blame the media for all this unnecessary fear. The terrorist attacks and 9/11 was a gold mine for the government. They used peoples fear, the level of patriotism that brought people together, and the media for their own benefit passing bills and legislation that wouldn't normally get passed. They were not stupid. Smart move on their part, but all these "security theater" tactics they're doing (pat downs at airports and all that) is ridiculous. When TSA does it, they only do it one time. People have got passed with random shit. Clearly that isn't what is needed, and body scanners shouldn't be used unless you got probable cause and can be held up in the court of law. The airport in terms of policy is like the wild wild west right now. I conduct pat downs every single day. Normally I find shit, but I've spent days in academy learning different pat down techniques. I don't believe a TSA agent has that type of training. My agency hardly misses anything because the officer on the street pats down for weapons, they take them in to booking, they're patted down again before entering the jail. Then they're patted down by jail staff, then before entering a cell or tank they're patted down again. By the end of the day they've been violated by everyone. When necessary we do strip searches (goes back to probable cause)and visually check for hidden items, but if absolutely necessary we will get a search warrant and take the inmate to the hospital for a cavity search.
And before that invasions were just as common a sight as Germans in Mallorca
So we can blame the Normans for making us so strong willed?

This thread is silly
"Terrorism is bad. You are bad. Stay scared. Go shopping."
[img_thumb]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CZ6DtE8Ne9g/TIdZLquurkI/AAAAAAAABfA/XMJJwuSr37I/s400/twin-towers280_436781a.jpg[/img_thumb]
every seems so sad over 'bring your plane to work day' i keep telling you they forgot to land on the roof and tried to get in through the office
People should forget terrorism. When I say people, I mean the general public. The main impact of terrorism isn't the initial act (like 9/11) but the fear it creates afterwards. Added security measures, sensationalist media reports; it makes people's every day lives some sort of life-threatening experience, or so they think. The sooner people stop making it out to be some kind of globaly spanning plot that could strike down anyone at any time the better.
So we can blame the Normans for making us so strong willed?
And the Angles, the Jutes, the Saxons and the Danes... probably more too All of these people were pretty tough.
I don't give a fuck about terrorism in terms of remembrance because thats not the way to progress and solve things. You don't cure cancer by laying flowers on graves.
Terrorism kills half as much as peanuts each year. Spending time being worried about terrorism is stupid and the time and resources used could feed people or something useful.
Terrorism kills half as much as peanuts each year. If I'm supposed to be worried about terrorism, then worrying about real threats like heart disease would give me a heart attack.
Don't care about wars far away that were started for false, bad reasons. Don't care about terrorism, hasn't happened in my country.
terrorism has been around a lot longer than 9/11 lmao
If people would really cae about terrorists they would stop consuming the drugs that give them the money.
"Fighting" terrorism is the best way to fuel terrorism. There's two and only two feasible options of actually dealing with terrorists (or by extension, large scale insurgencies). A) Suck in your gut, accept your losses, and go on with your life. People died, but the attack was purpetrated to shock and demoralize you, you aren't going to give them the satisfaction. B) Come down on everybody even remotely related to them so hard that they'll be digging corpses out of rubble of their cities for the next 20 years. Obviously B is not feasible for any democratic nation to do, such a thing would be monstrous, but it would cut the legs off the terrorist movement in an instant; terrorists and insurgents thrive on the fact that democratic nations try their best to avoid civilian casualties. A is feasible, but nobody would ever do it because most people can't swallow their pride; they'd rather pursue an invisible enemy even if it means their own demise. Terrorism is going to be one of those bleak realities that we'll have to endure as long as democratic nations still exist. Terrorists thrive by preying on civilized and emotional societies.
terrorism has been around a lot longer than 9/11 lmao
The concept of terrorism has been around for a very long time, but only recently has it worked so well on entire societies. A small group of people is capable of putting an entire nation into panic.
I think if you completely crushed a terrorist group killing innocents in your way there would be a lot more rebels then you started out with because of sympathy and hatred.
A lot on the people on FP aren't really old enough to remember 9/11.
I think if you completely crushed a terrorist group killing innocents in your way there would be a lot more rebels then you started out with because of sympathy and hatred.
I'm sure they would. Unfortunately a RPG7 or outdated WW2 heavy MG is not very effective against a hail of high explosive ordinance. If every time a terrorist attack is perpetrated, a swift and brutal retaliation follows, then eventually there's not going to be any more terrorist attacks. Not saying that should happen, but I am saying without a doubt it'd work if it were to happen.
If people from my country were reminded of terrorism as much as the US population, we would be just like them, a nation that lives with fear. I mean, I probably wouldn't like to walk around in an American city if I looked like this:
Someone sweeping in here with the "Terrorism is scary, we should stay panicked and infringe rights for safety!" argument? Really? In 2011? I keep forgetting how stupid people are.
I don't see why people are afraid of dying from terrorist attacks. Most people drive cars. A car has so much destructive power in the hands of a dumbass, how many dumbasses are there in the world? Probably more than terrorists that want to kill you. So many things in this world can snuff out your life in an instant that being worried about terrorism is a non issue.
It is like real-life counter strike. They plant bomb on "B", you defuse it and meanwhile they are already planted bomb on "A". You defuse it and kill them all. More of them will spawn. Best way to avoid this is leave the server and quit playing
The purpose of terrorism is to create mass hysteria and fear. Reminding people that terrorism exists puts them in a state of fear. Reminding people of terrorism is terrorism.
OH HAI GUIZ! LET'S REMEMBER TERRORISM EXISTS SO WE NEED THE PATRIOT ACT AND WE NEED TO TORCHURE THE BAD GUIZ! OOGA BOOGA LOL! /c I'm sorry, but that's kinda what it sounded like.
