If god exists, he's a horrible god.
He's really doing a shitty job don't you think?

You clearly don't understand the Lord's plan, and how could you?
You are all not powerful like He. (also love the sexism and slavery and a bunch of other antiquated social constructs)
facepunch atheists lmao

I don't think anyone can ever truly understand life, God or the Bible. These are just things that are made to not be understandable. The Bible has a ton of contradictions, but that's because it was written by man who do make mistakes, and do misinterpret things. You've also got to remember that it's also full of metaphors. For example, I believe in creation, yet I still believe in evolution. I don't think Genesis is meant to be taken literally.
Are the trinity capable of making individual choices? If they are, can they disagree on things? In the case of a disagreement, do they decide by majority vote or is there some sort of hierarchy between them? Where does the hierarchy come from? It's been heresy to claim that one of them is more powerful than the others for the past 1700 years.

Our human interpretation of caring/bad job/horrible isn't that of a god, Not doing anything is the best policy.

I think it's a bit silly to say "I believe in the bible but the interpretation is my own" -- why even bother?
There is no evidence for god, nor is there a need for him. Arguments justified by the bible need to legitimize the bible, arguments to legitimize the bible need to justify god. It's a circular argument that you can't win.

Yeah, you can't read between the lines and still follow the religion.
It fairly clearly states it is the word of God, not, it is the word of God relevant to this particular time and society.
I hate to talk about this because it can easily drive the thread off-topic, but here goes.
I've always wondered about life outside of our planet.
Like we've (our solar system) been around for a few billion years (I guess) who's to say there isn't life somewhere else in another galaxy? Maybe those creatures are our creators, and to us they are god-like.
Like what if the whole 2012 thing is just us getting visits from aliens (what we perceived at the time as gods)? The Mayans were great with astronomy, maybe they made contact way back then and they were told that in 2012 they were coming back? (I don't believe in that stuff, but I mean there's so much that we don't know about space, and the likelihood of life out there that is more advanced than us that artificially created our solar system for some experiment)
GAH!!
On that note, I can't wait for 2012 to pass so we rid ourselves of the stupid 2012 'significance'.
Of course it will just be another thing, but oh well.

Interesting..
I find religion to be very fascinating.
I don't believe in the beliefs that "religious" people believe in, but I find it very fascinating of how people behave with religion. Like most religious people blindly believe what they are told, and they don't even think about what they are told. It's crazy and amazing at the same time.
I feel the same way. Like you said, it's crazy and amazing at the same time. But it is also a very scary thing. Slightly cult-ish at times.
Here's the thing. Find what you want to believe in. You shouldn't care what Facepunch or anyone else for that matter thinks, you should just be happy with what you believe in.
If you're desperate for a religion at least pick a cool one like Norse paganism. You get to worship this badass motherfucker.

Just don't justify real (natural) things with your stupid (supernatural) beliefs, or force your beliefs down others' throats.
Just don't justify real (natural) things with your stupid (supernatural) beliefs, or force your beliefs down others' throats.
I couldn't agree more.
I just think that religion is something that you only need to share with other people who want to talk about it. If someone isn't interested, than you have no right to make them believe the same as you.
If religion is true, as you believe it to be, not converting other people means you're letting them go to Hell and experience infinite pain.
If athiesm is true, by not converting other people, you're dooming them to do poor choices.
Both are selfish. Same for all other contrary ideologies. One can't be true without the other being false, there is always one group that is getting shafted, which is why we need to debate and debate until we find a solution for the problem.
And if the Bible has misinterpretations, then how can we be sure which passages are accurate?
And happiness/unhappiness is good/bad no matter what God intends for us, it's objectively and instrinsically good/bad.
OP was just being an ass. I don't see what he is trying to get out of this.
Seems like you think you're all hip and cool.
I really hate how you said you know more about god. To me, god doesn't exist, but those who do follow god will each have there own perception of him, her or it. Whether you see him as a big man in the or Morgan Freeman. When that lady on omegle said those things about god and such, that's her way of praying to him. The same follows with all other religions. So when you say you know more about god, whether you went to chuch a lot or not, you really mean you know more about your god. Even if you don't believe in him you, we, all have opinions and thoughts about him and all act accordingly to this. One example is the West Boro Baptist Church, the leader has a very non tolerant version of god in his head and has passed this view onto his children.
So if you want to find god then realize, there is no one god, even if the books say there is one as everyone has their own. And if god is anything, however you put things or believe, the one thing that god really is in active, present form is hope. It's why people pray or send there children to do so to. As hope, hope for future, hope for something good to come from the bleak cruel world we call earth.
God is hope.
You: wanna see my penis?
he actually meant that he knew more about the true Christian god, the one that is unadultered by customization. Basically, he said he knew the Bible better than she did.
Why start up a religious discussion with some random guy? It would make me feel really awkward.
If he ain't behind the couch cushions, he's fucking gone, man.
i dunno why people can't be fine with not existing after death.
really, would you rather not be aware of eternity or go to heaven where eternal bliss will get old after a number of years and eventually drive you fucking mad?
Eternal bliss, by definition, is bliss. You can't get tired of happiness.
have you ever experienced it for eons?
Eternal bliss, by definition, is bliss. You can't get tired of happiness.
Wow, so basically an eternity of being a ignorant but blissful prick, how enticing.
You want to lure me to a religion through afterlife benefits, you should tell me I'll get to be the God of my own universe.
[editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Though I'm wrong, you won't be ignorant (other than of the people suffering in hell/limbo) because there will be no problems on Earth if you're in heaven, as everyone on the planet died and was judged during judgment day.
You can get bored of whatever is creating happiness, not happiness itself.
You can't get sad from being happy.
And why would you to be God? Is it not, ultimately, to be happy?
