Eternal bliss, by definition, is bliss. You can't get tired of happiness.
So its like being on drugs forever.
Eternal bliss, by definition, is bliss. You can't get tired of happiness.
Yes you can get tired of happiness. With out sad there is no happy, without bad there is no good. This "bliss" would just be a stale emotionless existence, hell.
exactly, the bitter parts of life make the sweet parts all the more sweeter. when bliss becomes the norm it's normal, and becomes mundane.
Yea being forever happy is almost as bad as not feeling anything at all. Instead I wish I could just live forever and go through many feelings at different points in my life.
And why would you want to be God? Is it not, ultimately, to be happy?
No it would be so that I could do a better bloody job than Mr. Mysterious (read: absent). I consider happiness is more of a classical sense; rather then fleeting conventional happiness, the kind of happiness that results from achieving optimal results. If Christianity described God as Anubis or Ra, I would totally get into that shit.
I think every feeling our physical bodies can feel is inherent to the physical body instead of a soul. I do not think a soul could feel joy or grief, or be satisfied or dissatisfied with its current conditions. Heaven and hell deal with much too mundane experiences. What need would a soul have to experience pain, for example? Pain indicates danger to the physical body. A soul would only have use for pain if it could be damaged.
I think every feeling our physical bodies can feel is inherent to the physical body instead of a soul.
I dont believe in a soul so I dont have to worry about that. Also if the soul cant feel anything at all what makes a soul part of us?
Neither do I, but for the sake of the argument.
If Christianity described God as Anubis or Ra, I would totally get into that shit.
I'd probably decide against it just for this stupid reason:
If religion is true, as you belive it to be, not converting other people means you're letting them go to Hell and experience infinite pain. If athiesm is true, by not converting other people, you're dooming them to do poor choices.
Except we live in a society where freedom of thought is (ostensibly) valued, with everyone being able to choose their own path, and their own actions.
I hate how so many Atheists just blatantly hate Christianity. I hate how so many Christians just blatantly hate Atheists. I'm not saying that you gotta be Christian or Atheist for that matter, I'm just saying that there should atleast be a mutual respect. Wouldn't it be better if everyone was judged by their character rather than their beliefs of group?
nevermind i'm :downs:
If Christianity described God as Anubis or Ra, I would totally get into that shit.
Much of christianity is based off of those religions. So would you call it a bad sequel?
Yes you can get tired of happiness. With out sad there is no happy, without bad there is no good. This "bliss" would just be a stale emotionless existence, hell.
Again, If you're experiencing eternal and infinite happiness, you cannot be emotionless, it's a logic impossibility, one implies the non-existance of the other. And you can't get tired of happiness itself, you can only get tired of the things that generate happiness, to the point where they won't anymore. Which is why you get bored playing the same game over and over again, but you don't kill yourself because you were happy.
Except we live in a society where freedom of thought is (ostensibly) valued, with everyone being able to choose their own path, and their own actions.
The problem is, people can be wrong, and there is no action that merely affects oneself by the way. And, yes, one is capable to objectively evaluate whether an action is right or wrong.

There's better reasons to say a God doesn't exist than their holy books having a lot of contradictions. They can weasel out of those and say it's all metaphorical, or some equally slanted bullshit which will boil down to a semantic argument. My girlfriend was an extreme conservative Christian for most of her life. When I started urging her to reevaluate her views and beliefs, she concluded rightfully that some of the more ridiculous ones she felt socially obligated to believe were wrong quickly, but religion was something she would not budge on. I tried pointing out to her how immoral the God of Abraham would be, in sending people to hell for any number of minor offenses including not loving him back, along other fallacious parts of Christianity. She typically responded with "You can't question God" and just disregarded everything I said. Eventually, I took another approach and it worked. No, at least in my experience, Christians do not respond to that kind of reason, and I dare say some won't respond to ANY reason. Ultimately, I ended up pointing out to her that there is absolutely no proof to affirm God's existence. She gave me the typical, "Well, it's faith." I responded to this by telling her there are plenty of silly things you could have "faith" in (isn't that the premise of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?), and that believing in something you have no proof for introduces a faulty thought process to your mind. She came around eventually - offering a bit of logic can sometimes help. Speaking of the "benefits" of religion rather than how to convince people it doesn't exist for a moment, some people might say that religion is good for certain people despite all of them being a big ruse, to which I would reply... maybe. Good, though, compared to what? Keeping the truth from people in such a selfish way as to lie to them about a God's existence is dishonest. You should never knowingly damped someone else's perception of the world. I love seeing everything clearly, and that's why I would never try any sort of narcotics nor go back to religion. Perceiving the world around me perfectly is something I strive to do. Religion is a limiter on that.
that's why I would never try any sort of narcotics
It's great to see clearly when you need to make decisions but sometimes drugs are great for inspiration and recreation. You just gotta control when and where you do them. And don't do the crazy shit like meth or heroin.

Aside from that, if you have an addictive personality it's a very, very slippery slope trying even the more "harmless" drugs.
exactly, the bitter parts of life make the sweet parts all the more sweeter. when bliss becomes the norm it's normal, and becomes mundane.
It's all relative Finally an excuse to post this
Aside from that, if you have an addictive personality it's a very, very slippery slope trying even the more "harmless" drugs.
But if you have such a personality, then any pleasurable activity is risky.
Religion is used to once explain phenomena. Today, religion is vital to society in where it teaches individuals on how to live a virtuous life in accordance to written teachings of a number of well-known prophets. Lessons are learned through stories and epics involving God/gods and spirits interacting with Humans. Religion will always play a huge role in many societies

I'm a Presbyterian Christian, and I believe I know more than some other people do. I won't judge you and that kinda shit cuz I sin too and everyone does. If you wanna talk, just pm me and I'll give you my Skype or AIM or some other stuff. I don't want some weird radical Christians misleading more people.
Man, I thought these types of threads are banned. All we need is another group of morons who think they got all the answers figured out. We need to end circle-jerkles.

What ethnicity and colour do you believe Jesus was? Is it necessary to be Christian (and more specifically, of your denomination) to get into heaven? Not trolling, just interested.
