I wish, for once, they would let us watch the damn thing sink.

There's a reasonable chance it didn't sink. Seemed like most of the damage was above the waterline.

You have to remember that most first world navies also have counters to weapons like this.
Yeah, close in weapons systems. Their goal isn't really so much to precisely hit the missile as put so much lead between the missile and target that it gets nicked or hit by shrapnel

During the Gulf War, when the American Navy had ships all along the Kuwaiti coast, my dad said during the cruise missile bombardments, if one of the missiles went off nearby, you'd actually get sucked in and then blown back by the pressure wave.
He said he was watching from a window, since you could literally see the missiles shooting overhead, and then one went off nearby the apartment and shattered the windows. He said he would have been sucked out the window if he hadn't braced himself, and then he got blown back by the shockwave. Scary shit.
Humans are so good at developing weapons. When we get into space there will be know doubt in my mind our ships will he heavily armed.
...This made me think of that old Hasbro game for Windows 95/98 on Battleship which came with all these different cutscenes.
