That's taking it too far, plants don't have brains of any sort.

Wasn't there a couple of studies about plants feeling pain? Or am I making things up?
my best friend who is a girl is a vegetarian so I like to keep it neutral
by that I mean I don't eat food
I just wish they didn't act so high and mighty.
Why be a veggie?
you are still killing life to live.

Meat
I'm sorry, but steak is the best thing on this Earth.
I've been a veggie for almost 2 years now :D
I just eat a fuckload of pasta, noodles, fruit, veggies and i'll admin, as hypocritical as it is, some quorn/meat replacement stuff is nice but I don't eat it often.
Veggies best friend: Smoothies :p They fill you up when you need it and are 100% healthy.
How else are we supposed to respond to your (not you specifically) rage that we're not following God's plan/unhealth/unnatural/dumb/etc?

the unhealthiest way would be to dip them in deep fat-fried shit I think

In case anyone isn't completely converted.
yeah believe it or not those ads don't do much
:colbert:
I've tried to eat as little meat as possible, unfortunately my parents make me eat whatever they make for dinner that night.
So I think that when I leave home I'm going to become a vegetarian, it's just healthier. I get enough protein and I don't work out so I don't need any protein which would otherwise turn into fat.
I don't hate meat, I just don't care about it and if it's healthier to not eat it than I'm fine with cutting it out.

i WILL EAT THIS MEAT
Sup, veggie here, minus the PETA bullshit.
This thread reminded me of what me and my girlfriend did yesterday.

All those bags are meat, precious meat.

I think you kids are gonna' make it.
We're omnivorous for a reason.
Also, it's not wise to suddenly stop eating meat. The change in diet can cause diarrhea and vomiting.
If you go Veggie, you should slowly ween yourself off meat.
That's taking it too far, plants don't have brains of any sort.
Who are you to deny the rights of plants?
Are you a vegetarian because you dislike meat or really hate plants?
hilarious!
being vegetarian is disgusting
true
I love vegetarians. Mostly of the bovine variety.
We are designed to eat meat, also I've heard those special Vegan meals are pretty expensive. Stuff like Soya meat or something.
Vegetarian foods like £2/3 more expensive than normal food.
Fellow veggie here :p
I have like gazillions of veggie dishes to try.
My good friend is Vegan.
Something happened as a little kid that traumatized him into not eating meat.
Never really asked him about it, but, it's fine I guess.
Fish is tasty.
I've been thinking about this recently, and I'm pretty positive I can make these lifestyle changes, regardless I've no doubt it might be difficult since I've been brought up eating meat and some days I really have to try hard to remember this is the way I want to live (sounds silly, right?) but I've been so used to just picking up anything I want, so, FPers, are any of you established veggies or thinking / trying to be vegetarian and is there any advice / tips / comments / stories you can deliver?
I also have no doubt PETA can be biased, and I try to look at everything with an open mind, but I wholeheartedly believe that cruelty is happening to animals, it's there, on a wide scale, and I'd rather avoid everything altogether than take the chance that this animal might have been in pain and suffering all it's life (I don't want any 'Oh boohoo' responds to this please).
No.
If you're doing it because you can't stand the taste of meat, that's fine. If you're doing it for "health" reasons however, you are an idiot. There are no health benefits to being a vegetarian over someone who eats an omnivorous diet. People only get perceived health benefits on vegetarian diets because when they force themselves to go vego, they tend to stop eating alot of shit foods, fast food especially.
As for animal cruelty, again, no. Do you really think people are so generally fucked up or that they even want to waste time torturing the animal to death when they can just kill it quickly and get to butchering the meat quicker? Not likely. I've seen what they do first hand, they've got a fucking pressurized rod, and they shoot that bitch through the cattle's head. It's dead instantly, wouldn't have even known or felt a fucking thing. And don't give me "freedom" speeches, Cows are as dumb as shit, and being on a grassy paddock most of their life would be no different from grazing in the wild - the only difference is in the wild they have the stress of predators - who don't give a flying fuck about how the cow feels when they attack it.
and I don't work out so I don't need any protein which would otherwise turn into fat.
This is a stupid misconception I commonly hear/read. Extra protein will fucking NOT turn into fat. Metabolically, Protein is the most taxing nutrient for the body to break down, to the point where it expends half as much calories trying to burn it as you ingested of the protein. That's why high protein - low carb diets are all the rage with people who want to get lean. Not to mention for you to gain any amount of fat you'd have to be eating well over the caloric intake it takes you to maintain weight. You are much much much more likely to get fat from eating too many carbs.
Also the misconception that protein is only useful for building muscle. No, it's just as an important nutrient as fats and carbohydrates are, if not more important for health. For example, high protein intake increases bone density (and thereby strength), supports the protective tissues of joints and stimulates the production of testosterone and human growth hormone.
BTW fags, fun fact:
The body can survive and function perfectly in the complete and utter absence of Carbohydrates.
However, completely remove proteins and fats, and the body will DIE.
Nothing is Morals, plants are still living, even if you can't hear the thing scream. It's still living when you boil it to death.
