I'd argue that, at the very least, by supporting Pet Shelters yourself, you're taking a conscious action most people won't, and doing genuine good in terms of helping the problem.
That said, don't be like my impulsive fuckbrain cousin and adopt like, 12 assorted animals and dump them all on your mother when you finally marry your johnboy fiance and decide to get two giant mastiffs that, as it turns out, hate everything that isn't themselves.
