Sounds awesome. What about geophysicists? Do they also do bugger all, just for a bigger paycheque?
I was strong in math so I've been reading into geophysics as well
Geophysicists have the best job ever.
"Honey take out the trash"
"Can't, Im crunching figures to estimate when the next upper layer tectonic shift will happen"
"Mr. Geophyderpson! What the hell are you doing?"
"Using a simulation to find out if a small group of people can survive by digging into a hill face."
And then he plays minecraft.
Of course when the time comes:
"We are very sorry that the earth just spilled it's guts into space but there was no way to predict this kind of outcome."
I can't tell if you love earth sciences or hate it
Mother fucker, I will see you there :v:
Sorry to disappoint, but I'm transferring to Colorado State University in the Summer.

Neither.
It's baseless satire.
Why would being a party school possibly be a pro?
Geology = Rocks for jocks
but really I can imagine a geology major would be p tight if you like rocks.

Yeah I'll probably apply by the end of the month unless I get some kind of great paying full time job here beforehand
So, residence. Available to me is a shared dorm, a 4 or 6 bedroom apartment, or off-campus accommodation if I can find a roommate. The thought of sharing a room so small that two people can't stand between the beds is horrifying so dorms are out (single dorms are only available to upper year students), and finding my own place is hard and expensive so I'll likely go for one of the two apartment arrangements. I'll look for people renting out basement suites and stuff though.
What kind of accommodation have the rest of you stayed in while studying and what comments do you have about it?

Stayed at home. Went to university in my city. Only dropping a few hundred every semester, so no debt which is what I care about. If I didn't have the luxury of living at home then I would probably share an off campus apartment with roomates.
Even if you get a good full paying job before then, going to uni when your 30 will be gay. And getting a job at 30 will be cool.
I'm stressed out, slightly depressed, panicking about first year finals, about what would happen if I failed to get in to the next year, what a waste of money it would be and yet doing nothing about it and lacking motivation to revise.
The fuck is wrong with me.

Been accepted into University of Plymouth for september. Studying Oceanography.
I only need to get under 40% in all my final exams to get in :v:.

And the best thing is that you'll be getting paid even more after peak oil because finding that stuff is all the more important.

I live in an apartment with my partner, rent is about 10k each which is half as much as living at the university campus (20k each) not to mention the zero restrictions of living at home and the rental history means you'll be able to get any place you can pay for after.
Not to mention personal growth maturity etc.
I'm doing Arts (judge me) at The University of Melbourne. I'll be specialising in International Relations, possibly doing a double major in that and Media and Communications.

Here is an aerial view of the Melbourne Uni parkville campus. It doesn't have some stuff like the Law building but it's most of it.
