I'm pretty sure that that's common for many many people learning art. Biggest critic is yourself, you have this idea in your head, but when you get it down on paper (or photoshop canvas) it looks nothing like what you wanted. You see all of the ways you fucked up, all the things you just can't seem to get right.
That's my experience with it, at least.

No what is really stupid (and ruins fursonas for me) is when people go all Mary Sue on them (an actual thing).
Here is one I got before from a friend: "My Wolf-Fox is a vampire and impervious to pain and basically indestructible."
Also I did ask, not even with a wooden spike into the heart or a cross.

I think it matters how the creator handles them.
If they are like "this is how I should have been born/this is me but I'm trapped in a human body right now" it gets really weird, but I think most people already agree to that.
Otherwise it's basically just a character that they really like the design of, and use to be their profile picture/comic character etc.
