There should be, there's a huge furry population on FP.
There's an anime thread so I guess there could be a furry one.
99.99 of people here are furries and very few just find dragons cool.

there's been a few attempts at a furry thread but it doesn't work, assholes and trolls just start flinging shit into it and mods close it because it's nothing but a shitstorm.

There have been single furry threads, several in fact. They all ended terribly. Granted that was back in 2008/9 or so and FP has become SUBSTANTIALLY more furry since then, they'd still just cause drama, enough that no mod wants to have to deal with it.
