That's not my issue with his design. My issue is how much stuff they crammed into the head area.

Personally i think you're nitpicking, needlessly in fact.
It's not a congested design as you're saying, things aren't thrown on there and crowding it or being distracting.

so this is one of the few chances I have to use this book relevantly buuuut our family won a box of how to train your dragon merch in a charity auction and among it is the art and making of how to train your dragon 2.
They essentially tried to make cloudjumper seem like this massive, kingly dragon, with an attitude of being above everyone else [sp](as he is the the chosen dragon of hiccup's mom)[/sp]
also I recommend that book to most of you here, its actually rather interesting the evolution of the dragons and the characters as they moved through the production of the movie. Drago was going to be a looooot different, along with [sp]Hiccups mom[/sp] (she looked more like Stoick, massive and wall-like. Her armor was weird too.)
edit: oh and the opening of the movie was actually going to be a night scene showing the destruction of Erets fort and introducing the mysterious character ([sp]hiccups mom[/sp]) but this seemed too dark for the opening of this movie so they added that flight scene (which started aat 60 second runtime and went a lot longer).
there is so much neat little trivia and things that went into that movie. i also spoiler tagged a few things for those staying completely in the dark about the movie for now
