If you want generic, flashy actions where things happen at other things, RWBY is great. If you want to stab yourself in the ears because the voices are terrible, its great. If you want some neat weapon concepts that progressively get stupider as the series goes on, its great.
Like, its certainly not the worst thing I've ever watched, but there is so much more that could be done with it.
RWBY is a show that is fun to watch (possibly while drunk) but if you call it good people from all over will shit on you.
Wow, look at you, beating on the work of a dead guy trying to make his dream come true... I hope you feel so big and important, because OBVIOUSLY an independent shoestring budget and, again TWO... FUCKING... ANIMATORS... should be able to replicate the rendering quality of Pixar...
Yeah, you feel like a big fucking man. I'm sure you've done better...
This isn't an argument lmao
The animation is shite, objectively shite. There's no getting around that. I was wondering what the fuck it was I kept seeing GIFs around the Internet of and now I can put a name to it (thanks Man At Arms!). It may have been done on a shoestring budget by two animators, but that doesn't mean it can't be critiqued. Better things have been made with less, that's just how the creative industry works.

Watching it with Twitch is quite the experience, laughed more than I thought
then again they could stream a food blender and it'd have its fun too
RWBY is an American production.
So why not stream it in American with English subtitles?

Yo are we looking at a flash fan animation here or smth?
So why not stream it in American with English subtitles?
How the fuck does that make any sense?
The English dub IS the original...
And the cast is fine. The only legit bad actor that's never really improved is the one who does Weiss, and that's only because she can't pull off "sad" worth a damn and her crying sounds fake. Yang's started off with almost no acting chops at all, but has improved all around.
And I, you...
I cant even process how this is a response
I think you take anime waaay too seriously lmao

Shove it hard. That's top tier animation. Anyone who DOES animation can appreciate what goes into a sequence like that. And RWBY is PACKED with that shit.

Are those shotguns... nun chucks? And is that guy somehow defending from shotgun shells point blank with just a cane? Rule of cool can let a lot of stuff slide, but that's managed to cross the line twice to go back into "not cool". Also why is there the slow mo on the one shotgun shell for seemingly no reason?

To be fair,, rwby was I think meant to parody anime, but due to popularity became something more, but i could be wrong

it makes sense that it do shit like that to make fun of anime
it was meant to be every stereotype and never taken seriously, as far as i remember

It’s also a staff... but I'd say they're flintlock pistols.
So why is it okay when Jedi do the same thing? Technically THEY are blocking laser beams...
Also, this sequence in particular is notoriously animated to the beat of a song. Not that a song is IN the scene itself, it was just animated to one. Monty animated fights like dances, so there was always a rhythm.
sad how bad rwby turned out, there's some genuine intensity in some early fights that you can tell Monty knew what he was doing its a shame he was working with a budget of $3
show is visually disgusting, plot never (and still hasn't apparently after volume 4) went anywhere, action scenes were the thing i started watching the show for then Monty fucking died rest in peace that poor bastard
the OST is pretty good too, imagine if this was actually animated (or well done CGI) and Monty didn't die, I wonder where this show would have went

this is the scene I typically pick when I talk about the fights because I honestly think that this is well choreographed ignoring the issues that arise from looking at fullbright CGI for too long

I don't think so, he planned out the bulk of the story for a good long time... but if you want a reason for how over the top it is, Monty's favorite anime of all time was Gurren Lagaan...
Oh, you were finished?
Yeah...
Yeah dude you got em
Fuckin wrecked hexpunK better pack it in lad
Please stop, for your own sake
Which part?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but you need to watch more anime.
Are those shotguns... nun chucks? And is that guy somehow defending from shotgun shells point blank with just a cane? The cane is also a shotgun, so naturally it has better shotgun resistance. Try to keep up
So after sitting down and catching the rerun, I saw the rest of volume one (IE: the intro parts and the beginning of the Jean episode)
I still have no idea how this stuck around for 3 more volumes. I mean it's interesting, but the things that are interesting (the fights) are surrounded by a lot of negatives (animation, dialogue, the generic plot etc) that almost make them...worse I guess?
I like the GL girl though.
Yeah dude you got em
Fuckin wrecked hexpunK better pack it in lad
look i'm currently sat here fucking CRYING about that please stop bringing it up
okay, i admit, RWBY isn't animated like shite. it's animated like shit.
I dunno if it's just the limitations of the software they were working with, the inexperience of the animators or the fucking nasty art style. But it just looks wrong. If that sequence is literally one example of the animation being good then by the nine we should be purging that filth. Everything appears to have this weird stiffness to it with small moments of fluidity. But there's no real weight to the animation, it just looks like a bunch of flailing with no real impact. Actual feeling in the animation is instead covered up with flashes and weird slo-mo.
it started out pretty alright but got worse when the main animator died
he's probably rolled in his grave enough to be dust by now based on how they've treated the show
RWBY actually got better once Monty passed because season 1- 3 is just ripping off tons of popular anime and JRPGs(one character is Shiro Emiya/Noctis and her introduction scene is almost 1:1 a scene from FF15, one guy is Naruto, another is Sayaka from Madoka Magika, one guy is Nero from DMC4, the list goes on) while season 4 is just a Harry Potter fanfic

I've seen a couple of images posted in several places suggesting that several character models used parts of models created for other purposes.
kinda curious why they don't use renderman/maya/blender/whatever
they do use maya. they started using maya at volume 4. monty only had experience in poser, so after he passed they had nothing holding them back from moving onto maya

alot of exact model polygon rips

Yup they've stolen models from MMD and video games. The list above leaves out the Dragon in rwby being a modified model of a Skyrim dragon
Vigilant I get you like rwby but watch these:
FLCL
Madoka Magika
Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade by ufotable
Fate Zero
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Soul Eater
Then play:
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 15
Devil May Cry 4
Skyrim
Then come back to Rwby. Probably a lot of "inspirations" I'm missing. Also using a Rwby quote in a wedding is cringe as fuck
RWBY is a labor of love, I love it, I love its characters, I love its world, and no amount of libel or slander is going to change that.
I'll never submit to ideological purity. I'm my own person.
And I will continue to spread love for this series. Even now, I'm paying artists to help me recreate one-to-one models of the characters so the fans can do their own animation fan projects like I want to.
And when my animation is finished, I hope to find my work impresses them enough to be hired, leave my current job and become a part of the thing my wife and I adore.
Sure, it's a crossover, but it'll knock anyone's socks off, because my software can go even farther than RWBY'S effects work has achieved.
Dreams are to be sought after...

I feel like I'm watching a N64 game fight scene or something. Everything seems so.. dated and off.
Things I've mostly seen.
I don't care. See enough works of anything and you know originality no longer truly exists. If you're just looking to see if something similar was done somewhere else, you'll find it without question.
Also, don't talk about my wedding, that's crossing a line, pal...
I've been debating watching it. My brother likes it so I figured I'd at least give it a shot, but I've also got a huge backlog.
