I'm never going to stop pronouncing it "roob-wee".
A lot of roman titles from Japan are subtly awkward like that. For example Blazblue should be "Blazz-blue".
Yup they've stolen models from MMD and video games. The list above leaves out the Dragon in rwby being a modified model of a Skyrim dragon Vigilant I get you like rwby but watch these: FLCL Madoka Magika Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade by ufotable Fate Zero Neon Genesis Evangelion Soul Eater Then play: Final Fantasy 7 Final Fantasy 15 Devil May Cry 4 Skyrim Then come back to Rwby. Probably a lot of "inspirations" I'm missing. Also using a Rwby quote in a wedding is cringe as fuck
You forgot to add God Eater to the list, cause that did hunting monsters with oversized ridiculous melee and ranged weapon combos 3 years before rwby did it.
You forgot to add God Eater to the list, cause that did hunting monsters with oversized ridiculous melee and ranged weapon combos 3 years before rwby did it.
My bad I still haven't found everything Rooster Teeth still from
Shit, i just realised what ive been missing. I need some Dan Green in my life.
Vol 2 starts in like 20 minutes and will loop 3 times
So tomorrow is Volume 2. People who actually watched this before: is it decent to watch?
No it's not
its p ok so far tbh the writing is wonky but the action so far is so budget-over-the-top that i like it solely because of that [editline]10th October 2017[/editline] twitch fucked up the marathon and cut off 3 vol 2 episodes. they are trying to fix it. edit 2: Twitch is banning people off the chat for posting emotes that relate to terrorism while a terrorist plot is going on
its p ok so far tbh the writing is wonky but the action so far is so budget-over-the-top that i like it solely because of that
Thank you for giving it a fair shot... that's really all I ask of anyone...
They finally made background character models in season 2 and that's the only improvement
That’s not even remotely true... Like I mentioned, color grading improved dramatically... which is to say it exists now, lol... they found better ways to balance background clutter and saturation for shot composition, and with the exception of a few episodes before the finale, the non-action related animation was far more fluid and detailed, to say nothing of new solvers and methods of secondary animation like hair behavior.
My bad I still haven't found everything Rooster Teeth still from

No it's not
Wow, I'M the troll? Why are you so categorically unfair and snidely dismissive? Did Lindsay Jones ACTUALLY hit your grandmother with a golf cart or something? You’re being plainly antagonistic. You're a bully.
That scene is so choreographed, the first thing it reminded me was this. [t]https://media.giphy.com/media/bYdSMYgHEIlZC/giphy.gif[/t]
Choreographed? Well... yeah, it's animated. Demonstrating superhuman ability and grace is kind of the niche, it's Monty's trademark. And it's not like it stifles what SHOULD be emotion sneaking its way into a fight like the prequels did. It knows how to show that in a consistent and very anime style. A great example is Yang while fighting Neon Katt in V3, who aggravates her to the point she gets pissed and seriously sloppy.
RWBY stands for "Red, White, Black, Yellow" if I'm not mistaken. Which, if you'll look at the characters, really just is a very obvious reference to the colour of their clothing. Very original.
Sorry, the pedantic nerd in me (it's well hidden, I know *wink*) wants to expand on that, even though it was explained. Huntsmen and Huntresses, at the academies anyway, are always grouped in teams of four for their education in the name of teaching teamwork and comradery in a world where it's ACTUALLY essential. Team names start with the first letter of a name in order, starting with the leader, and are arranged to form either the name of a color, or something that reminds of a color. Team RWBY: (Pronounced "Ruby") Ruby Rose Weiss Schnee Blake Belladonna Yang Xiao Long Team JNPR: (Pronounced "Juniper") Jaune Arc Nora Valkyrie Pyrrha Nikos Ren, Lie Team CFVY: (Pronounced "Coffee") Coco Adelle Fox Alistair Velvet Scarletina Yatsuhashi Daichi And as you might notice, like Team RWBY, the individual names are often very colorful as well. The reason for this is basically stemmed from a generational act of defiance. See, the Creatures of Grimm naturally target man and it's creations, but are drawn in hordes by pockets of negativity. The more concentrated the negativity, the worse the inevitable attack usually is. So the Kingdoms of Atlas and Mistral got the idea that to protect themselves, they should basically become freaking Vulkans, and went on a global crusade to purge catalysts of emotion from mankind. Art, literature, self expression... all to be excised in the hopes of keeping their lifelong enemies at bay. The kingdoms of Vale and Vacuo wouldn't stand for this, however, valuing culture and personal freedom above all. Thus began "The Great War," which rocked Remnant to its core and ultimately ended with Vale and Vacuo victorious. A tradition began in this time that holds till modern day in RWBY, which is to say, people began naming their children after colors and artful subjects in an expression of defiance and solidarity to the obliteration of culture. Hehe... bet you didn't figure RWBY had lore like this, did you? Yeah... there's more to it than you probably thought... [editline]11th October 2017[/editline]
wtf happened in this thread? What does RWBY even stand for? why does it look like someone capturing ingame footage? WHY?
Oops, forgot you. Yeah, the reason is... it basically IS. The first three volumes were made with the intent of being playable in real time. No difference between what the animator works with, and the final look of the footage. Prior to V4, it's exclusively made out of viewport playblasts rendered out as footage. It basically IS captured game engine footage.
I've only ever watched season 1 of RWBY, but whenever I see the name, the damn theme starts playing in my head.
I've only ever watched season 1 of RWBY, but whenever I see the name, the damn theme starts playing in my head.
IKR? Casie and Jeff Williams are just unstoppable... Nobody ever says shit about that soundtrack.
Volume 3 is the only one worth watching. Volume 4 is 4 episodes stretched out over a whole season in which like half of the plotlines are dropped arbitrarily and things that should have affected characters otherwise forgotten.
While RWBY is terrible I did enjoy meeting the voice actresses
While RWBY is terrible I did enjoy meeting the voice actresses
Lindsay and Barbara are the best
i cant believe there are human beings who unironically care about rwby
I don't understand why I would watch a stream of RWBY when it's just easier to go onto Youtube and watch the entire series there, that's what I did with RvB
I was at the Rooster Teeth section as NYCC was winding down on Friday and there was a tupperware of cookies underneath one of the tables that some fan probably gave them but they didn't want so I took some they weren't that good
*inhales* BWBY
i cant believe there are human beings who unironically care about rwby
its gets around 2 million views per episode. It was also popular enough in Japan to get an official Japanese dub. [editline]11th October 2017[/editline] Personally I'm not a fan, but it is very obvious that it is popular if you look around.
i cant believe there are human beings who unironically care about rwby
Personally I don't think there's an uglier show out there than RWBY. Even foodfight at least has SOME shading to the characters. It being unshaded makes it unbelievably horrifying to look at for more than 5 seconds, there's just no excuse for unshaded anything, that isn't an artstyle, that's unfinished work. Not to mention that all of the texture work looks like it was done in MSPaint using a 250x250 sized image, and I'm not talking professional grade work here even the best choreographed fights suffer from some pretty silly animation flaws like one can sit around all day talking about how 'but its impressive for the number of people working on it' but that doesn't change how it looks That being said I'm pretty clearly judging a book by its cover here but I will say it has well choreographed fights, and obviously I would only be able to judge its plot and presentation if I watched it. Yu Gi Oh though has some pretty cool designs, at least for a younger audience anyways. I can totally see the appeal even if I think its a bit awkward.
Jesus christ
almost thought this was some madara uchiha copypasta for a second there but you really are serious about this huh, chris-chan

Was RWBY ever more than a guilty pleasure? I admit I didn't mind it too much aside from the horrendous clipping, wonky animations, and obvious MMD knock-off models. But then again I watched the whole thing sans Volume 4 when I was lying on my kitchen floor writhing in agony from flu so :v:
What they did for RWBY was do flat textures and shadows trying to emulate the anime aesthetic, and then used a sort of line around the models to fake a proper cel-shading look. Which looks weird when the environments are anything more than simple shades and colors since the characters "pop" but also look completely out of place. It also makes certain models look strange because things like hair (like Yang's hair) overlap with their outlines all over the place, at least early on.
...Have yoy never heard of "cel shading" before? It's not supposed to look like CGI, it's supposed to look like a cartoon. Hence the outlines?
[t]https://www.pcgamesn.com/sites/default/files/Vegeta%20DBFZ.jpg[/t][t]https://www.windowscentral.com/sites/wpcentral.com/files/styles/larger/public/field/image/2017/06/dragon-ball-fighter-z-vegeta-vs-cell.jpg?itok=yisetNxN[/t][t]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fU7tEJT329Y/UxxeYiNFDHI/AAAAAAAAAWM/w4_UPLUROTk/s1600/Naruto%20Shippuden%203%20full%20game.jpg[/t] Here its used to look like a cartoon. Amazingly enough, it actually looks like the cartoon, really well actually. It has cel shading and amazingly it still has really effective shading and shadows. Obviously this isn't 100% the most fair comparison because they have a way higher budget, however RWBY could probably benefit from simply amping the shading up twice or thrice, with 2 layers. Just to add to this, I'm blown away by how amazing the DBZ game looks, its absolutely stunning work and I would 100% watch DBZ even if it looked like that. CGI is too complicated to not look incredibly awkward without proper shading unless you do it really well. RWBY doesn't do it well at all, it just looks really badly textured. Lets not forget that they're going for an anime asthetic and most anime, even cel shaded, still has shadows and/or some form of shading as well. I don't see them going for an Ed, Edd and Eddie aesthetic so idk what they're even trying to do, it looks BAD. RWBY's shading seems to be all over the fucking place in the trailer alone. Sometimes it'll look alright but generally its so light that it just doesn't really seem to matter. Really shit shading here [t]https://i.imgur.com/UtzpIcv.png[/t] But then this is shaded pretty alright, albeit it could use a little work on the skin and face. Maybe darken the shading a whole bunch too. It still needs a lot of work. [t]https://i.imgur.com/M2W0Q3i.png[/t] It's kind of awkward and inconsistent. Yeah, you can tell that they're in different lighting, but even well lit rooms should have a decent amount of shading so it doesn't look like they're all MLP anime characters Even most games emulating cartoons don't try it this hardcore because they know that CGI doesn't translate that well to cartoons. If you want a really good example of cartoon and CGI spliced poorly, just see how Berserk combines them.
