Back on the subject of health care. I believe that we should have an opt-in government health care system, but everyone pays for it. Much like private vs. public schooling. Even if you attend private school, you pay for public schools. This is over all a good thing, and has worked out for us.

The US is pretty much the only (somewhat) civilized country in the world where you actually pay for healthcare.
