Too many city lights, and clouds. I did see red though
Hush you, there wont be another eclipse on the winter solstice for 100 years, you're lucky to live in this time period you ungrateful worm.
Um, you're gonna have one next year. And another one in 2014. And many more times after that. Lunar Eclipses are not that uncommon.
Um, you're gonna have one next year. And another one in 2014. And many more times after that. Lunar Eclipses are not that uncommon.
Not on a winter solstice there ain't.
That can't be from the moon, the moon is dark, there is almost NO light reflecting off of it, a small amount is going around the earth so the moon looks a dark red. The moon is in NO way bright enough to light up the sky or ground at all. When there is a full moon, its VERY bright and it just barley makes it bright outside, now the moon is no brighter than the clouds. The red you see is ground light reflected from the clouds, it happens most when it snows and light reflects back up to the clouds and back down again, there may be snow nearby your area, if not it happens without it anyway sometimes.
"Hard to see the red with my eyes..." "Once I took off the auto-BW balancing..." You're right, it's not the moon its his camera settings, sorry to be a killjoy and all but its just not right.

Also Lunar eclipses are not rare, in 2011 there will be 2 total eclipses and 4 partial ones, what is rare about that is that it happened on the winter solstice which is no more rarer than it happening any other day of the year more than once.

Holy shit. It was like the sky was a painting and you could just grab the fucking red moon. Everything but the sky was pitch black.
Today was a good day.

You're right, it's not the moon its his camera settings, sorry to be a killjoy and all but its just not right.
Its red from the street lights, at first I thought it was light reflected from the clouds which happens a lot, but look at the first picture, see the high contrast shadows from the cars? its CLEARLY from nearby street lights.
Okay guys, the moon must've done something to the coyotes in the park behind my barkyard. I went to see the moon, and heard ears scuffling. I rushed back inside to greet my cat ( with relief ) and see a fucking coyote hop my fence. Currently telling mother about the issue.
Yeah, same here. When the Moon first passed into the umbra and everything went dark the Coyotes here just went berserk and started howling non-stop.

The moon completely was blocked by the clouds so there wouldn't be enough reflected light to light up the streets. But the camera could pick it up and it was certainly cool. Maybe it's just the camera but that seems very bright for the street lights here.

Well, it's going back. I hope you all had a good time!
I would stay up and see this through till the end but I'm about to pass out. Good night everyone.
is it still going in californias time zone?
Cool view, glad I got to see something like that.
is it still going in californias time zone?
You pretty much missed it, it's leaving the Earth's shadow at the moment.
got some neat photos, ill put them up later today, but for now, I'm heading to bed.
Watched it from the north of the UK. Wasn't too spectacular but glad I could see it.
Let me guess, i missed it?
Wait so it was this night? I found out about it in the newspaper and they said it was the night between today and tomorrow.
I saw it. It was so lovely. It was like a copper colored ring, with a dark spot in the middle. Very pretty to look at.
As I predicted it's banned from Australia. Fucking hell.
I always seem to miss every single fucking one of these events. Meteor showers, eclipses; they never seem to show here in Finland :smithicide:
Dammit, I wanted to see this but my alarm didn't go off. It probably would've been to cloudy to see anything anyway.
I missed it, I had to sleep fro practice. :smith: should I be this down?
God damn clouds.
God I missed it. Have to wait 100 years till the next one.
i liked how it sudenly changed tones from orange to red in just seconds.
