The problem is the licensing costs. QI uses a [I]ton[/I] of media, and it's all licensed for its specific use. AFAIK the BBC has a blanket license with the recording industry that allows it to use whatever music it wants, anytime, for public broadcast. However, all video clips and pictures have to be cleared separately.
And then you figure the cost of licensing absolutely everything all over again for the US market, especially as rights don't necessarily correspond in a 1:1 fashion between the US and the UK (as an example of how this weirdness can occur, Kit Kat chocolate bars are produced by Nestlé everywhere except the US, where Hershey licenses the brand name), and it looks horrendous. I remember seeing some comment somewhere from some dbag at BBC America saying that "Americans aren't interested in QI", which is not only obvious spin for BBC America not thinking it would be worth it to pay for all the media clearance, but a dick move and an insult to US intelligence. Every American I've introduced to QI has [I]fucking loved it[/I], and it's all been pirated since I have no choice.

Same here, I have every episode. I normally like to pay to support a program/artist I really enjoy, but with Qi I have no choice but piracy. Which really sucks.

Apparently there's a three week break after the latest episode. I hope that's wrong, but everyone's saying it...
I've noticed that a lot of the older regulars are disappearing as I catch up, and that's really disappointing. At least I can rewatch all of the old series, but I find that the newer people don't have the same chemistry, probably because they're not used to the format and don't come back.
