That site is so awfully formatted, I could hardly read it.
holy fuck that website is bad
Your dads logos look shitty and same with his website. There is nothing to sue over. They vaguely look alike. You can't copywrite the letter W and an eagle.
Go punch your dad in the face for making his whole website a giant JPEG.
And then punch him again for adding google ads to the bottom of the page so he could make some pennies off his jpeg'athon web page.
I'm sorry, your dad spent 2 YEARS on that logo? I'm not saying it isn't good, it's just that 2 years is excessive for a logo like that.

This case of non-literal similarity will never work. The letter W is not copyrighted and the capital building issue will likely be seen as coincidence considering the team is named the Capitals. Not to mention that the logo they used is similar to others that were suggested around the time of the selection. [editline]10:40PM[/editline] In fact, after reading about the logo it turns out it was designed by Reebok and the Capitals GM. It also underwent many changes during the design as the players on the team suggested what would look better. It seems like any similarity to your father's design is just coincidence.
I'm sorry, but the only similarity between their logo and your father's logo is the fact they have the top of the Washington Capital building cut out at the bottom and the eagle's wings are spread. The spread-eagle design is extremely common for any logo involving an eagle, and the Washington Capital building being cut out is an extremely common designer method. I'll be damned if you win a lawsuit in this. Sorry mate. :colbert:
lol everyone here is such an asshole. It takes two seconds to load...and it looks fine, unless your using a piece of crap 10' screen. And yes, you can clearly see the washington capital in the negative space, as long with the W, and the eagle head, get your eyes checked!
They didn't Exactly copy it, but they took parts off of it and made it VERY similar to his original design. Read the article!
I can't. That website is poorly constructed.

he uses a tool called "Corel Draw" He exports them as Jpg.. I ALMOST ALLWAYS rename them to .png but this time I forgot!
Renaming a file .png doesn't turn it into a PNG.
I present the old Capitals logo Note the use of the two sticks and the top of the Capital building to form a W. The idea of forming a W isn't hard to come up with.

If you put the head on, like, the tip of the right wing, then it looks like you don't know jack shit. Your dad's logo is pretty damn simple and generic. I'm sure there's a hundred other people who have made something like it for their own purposes. Again, the chances of you winning a lawsuit are minimal.

Well in that cause lawsuit is settled you win. I could rename your dads .jpeg to .faggot but it doesn't mean it will transform into one.
Why don't you sue the one who is in charge of this then?
I honestly don't see any real resemblance. The wings/head of the eagle naturally makes a W, and the color schemes are different. I think that he's entitled to some compensation because they probably recommended the design idea to their successor Designer, who made a much better looking logo that is currently in use.

None of them would have had any reason to see the suggested logos because they were hired after the logos were suggested.
Ok then, I don't see any need for compensation. They were pretty bad logos anyways...
Your dads website suck, no wonder they stole his logo. No serious business want to be related to something like that.
The current logo is heavily modified from your dad's. Being a designer I would be incredibly pissed too and might even sue them, but the W + Capitol is the only part they used.
Liebeck v. McDonald. The American justice system has allowed for the past 50 years to make lawsuits with claims like this and gain funds like this. The Liebeck v. McDonald case, may I remember, was due to how hot the coffee is served on McDonalds, which spilled on this old lady's lap ( Stella Liebeck ). She was awarded 2.9 million in damages. Personally, I would settle for two hundred grand. While the case can has some life in court, copyrights would do shit on this case, get them on defamation and you stand a good chance, emotional distress if you can prove that the first logo was also derived from your dad's design. Yes, the American legal system is fucked up and all. But hell.

They basically take the same basic ideas and make their own logo. You can't sue them because they got some inspiration off your father's logo. It is like McDonald's suing all the major and minor burger stands because they sell burgers (bad analogy but it works.) Sorry to hear that though.
The design of Facepunch is roughly based off that of Something Awful. That doesn't mean that SA can sue Garry.
They don't have time to design their own logo, they're too busy losing.
Go punch your dad in the face for making his whole website a giant JPEG.
ads by google
They offered him season tickets awhile ago, he turned them down and persisted in taking them too court / suiing them.
Good luck, they have enough money to get the best lawyer to turn bullshit into court truth. It's their job afterall. [editline]01:08AM[/editline]
They don't have time to design their own logo, they're too busy losing.
Also this
If he makes 'NHL worthy' logos, why can't he make a decent looking website? Giant .jpg = bad.
