When using iron sights, a lot of the accuracy comes from the distance between the sights, because the closer they are, the more easily they can be slightly misaligned. Part of the reason the AK-47 is considered to be inaccurate is because its sights are very close together and therefore much easier to screw up with. When using an optical sight, it acts as both front and rear sight, but having more distance between your eye and the sight allows for better alignment. The only negatives are that they generally don't look very good up far, it can be harder to see smaller reticule patterns, and that the sight's frame is more likely to be blocking part of what you're aiming at.

Iron sights you want a very long sight radius, with very short eye relief. 1x optics you want a very long eye relief. Magnified optics you want very short eye relief because you're supposed to shoot with both eyes open
