Hmm. Is it legal to make copies and then sell the originals? Would I have to destroy the copies?
Yes but there's no way for anyone to ever know you did it so it doesn't matter.

What? So I can legally make copies of the DVDs I own and sell the originals without getting in trouble or breaking the law?
I'm talking about making full copies of a dvd including the commentary etc. Just rip the .iso and burn it to another dvd, the process takes like 5 minutes of actual work.
Oh ok, I guess it simply comes down to those who prefers a collection and those who just wants to warch the movie.

It's technically probably breaking the law but nobodies gonna give two shits unless you're making a shitload off of selling the legitimate copies, which isn't gonna happen

only if you didnt tell anyone
though honestly what are you gonna make, 7$? not worth it unless youre forging tons of backups for lots of movies

Or if you want to get rid of the movie but want to keep a copy just in case you want to watch it later. Not everything has to be for a profit you know
nobody cares if you aren't profiting off of selling movie dupes.
My problem is this
I collect rare and out of print movies. Very few of them are available on DVD, let alone blu ray or netflix. For example, Warner Brothers Archives just brought out a DVD of one of my favourite movies, Savage Messiah. It was made in 1972. It has never had a DVD release, or even a VHS release. The only way I've been able to watch it is a TV rip from the internet. Not great quality.
Warner Brothers Archives remaster the film but don't mass produce it - they make them to order. This will probably be the only way to own this. It'll never see the light of day on blu ray because there is no demand for it. But there is a market for it among 70s film fanatics. Therefore I treasure my DVD collection. I've spent ages looking for some of the films and it's not unknown for me to spend £30 on a DVD if it's incredibly rare.
Netflix, but if I like it a lot I'll get it on Blu-ray.
Physical. I love my DVD collection. Would never give it up
Physical.
I love Netflix, but they do cycle shows out of their instant streaming every once in a while, so if that does happen, you'd only be able to watch it if you had the physical copy.
i like knowing I have something forever
that said I abhor dvd's, I think media sold in stores belongs on SD-Cards.
think of how much smaller dvd players could be if they were sd-players too
I said this once and some people flipped shit.
netflix is always nice
