People in this video did it for a smart phone this goes well beyond necessity AND amenity you're willing to lose all dignity for a discount?
I just typed out a lengthy response attempting to explain but I realize it's impossible to understand unless you have been in that kind of situation for a long time, so I deleted it.
Show me a 42" 1080p NEW tv from a name brand for 180 dollars, with good reviews.
the tv's that have been on sale for prices that low are not brand name lmao i still have mine from a few years ago, it's a "symphonic" this is their webpage http://www.symphonic.us/products/tv/index.html the tv that went big this year was "apex" aka this http://www.retrevo.com/samples/Apex-TV.html maybe where you're at there's some good deals on actual brand name televisions (although I doubt that they dip below 200), but i can assure you pretty much everywhere else they don't get that low
I just typed out a lengthy response attempting to explain but I realize it's impossible to understand unless you have been in that kind of situation for a long time, so I deleted it.
How are we to know you had any argument at all if you just say "I had an argument but I deleted it"? Anyways here's my "in a nutshell" video of the year.

And that's kind of the point; it's meaningless to try to explain why we are willing to stand in a line for 5 hours in the cold, no amount of explaining can make somebody genuinely understand if they haven't been in that situation. A bit like how you can't truly understand what it's like to be depressed or have a certain phobia or something unless you've been in that situation.
They were fighting over prepaid cell phones.
I never tried to say it was okay to fight over prepaid cell phones (not that prepaid phones are bad) I was just talking about waiting in line for hours and squeezing through crowded stores. [editline]24th November 2012[/editline]
Nope. Truly poor people don't go to Black Fridays.
I guess I don't exist. [editline]24th November 2012[/editline]
They want to have something nice for once in a world that does not want them to have anything. Just because you're poor does not mean you should be only buying food and basic utilities. That is surviving, not living.
This post is beautiful.
I like how it says "white people act like animals" when you can clearly see many people of other races.
Everyone can act like an animal under the right circumstances unfortunately.
One day they're going to plant a bomb in the stock and it'll turn out that Black Friday was just an elaborate scheme to rid the world of the dumbest humans.
Not dumb, just desperate. Also rude.
i work at toys r us and had to work the black friday 12a-12p bullshit today, it wasnt nearly bad as this but it was still pretty disgusting seeing people pushing and shoving over fucking skylanders
Not dumb, just desperate. Also rude.
Desperate my ass, I grew up with a single mother and another sibling. We saw the sales and we could've clubed people to death over nice things but we figured the smarter move was to just take what we could get with out risking bodily harm (cus you know, there is no black Friday sale on stitches). They're not desperate, they just think they are.
I went to Walmart on Black Friday right when it opened. I mean, there was a big line to get in but there wasn't any chaos. It was just hard to get around the store. The discounts sucked anyway. I didn't end up buying anything, nor did most of my friends.
This makes me so glad to be an Aussie. I knew what Black Friday was, but I've never seen or thought it'd be this bad. That's just terrifying.
Lol Americans.
Don't worry, if Steam's summer sale was a physical thing in the country of Steam you'd be there. :v:
We wouldn't do this shit if we could afford things on any other day.
I understand poor people want nice things too. But acting like a horde of starving dogs isn't justified by it. This shit is way over the line. Are you telling me that poor people are that desperate to get an iphone/tv/whatever that they will risk tramping other people to death or getting tramped to death themselves? I'd understand if this was for food when the entire nation is starving but not for "nice things".
People in this video did it for a smart phone this goes well beyond necessity AND amenity you're willing to lose all dignity for a discount?
Some people don't have it to begin with. Some people might think that risking bodily harm to get something on sale is something to be proud of not the other way around.
Who's arguing? And that's kind of the point; it's meaningless to try to explain why we are willing to stand in a line for 5 hours in the cold, no amount of explaining can make somebody genuinely understand if they haven't been in that situation. A bit like how you can't truly understand what it's like to be depressed or have a certain phobia or something unless you've been in that situation.
Are you saying there are only borderline poor people there? If that's the case then it's even more horrible. It would make black friday some kind of sick, cruel, american arena for poor people to fight each other over things. Might as well make black friday in the middle of a stadium and sell tickets.
ITT we make fun of poor people who want nice things at decent prices for their families.
I don't think poor people would be manically trying to grab two phones. Even on black friday I doubt most poor people could afford two fucking phones.
Online shopping anyone ?
I don't think poor people would be manically trying to grab two phones. Sure, most of them can't afford it, but they'll buy it anyway. There's a reason your average American's credit-card debt is $7,150*. *http://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit-card-data/average-credit-card-debt-household/
Online shopping anyone ?
Exactly.
ITT we make fun of poor people who want nice things at decent prices for their families.
because poor people totally have the money to go to walmart at 5 am to buy a $300 50' inch tv like I did or buy a ps3, xbox 360, that same tv, a blu ray player, and an entire shopping cart full of 360/ps3 games and spent almost $1,500 like the lady in front of me did.
Yeah exactly. This isn't about taking the piss out of poor people. If they're so poor maybe they should focus on essential needs rather than extravagant electrical products and spending as much as possible celebrating the genocide of natives amongst their families. Being poor should be used as an opportunity to adjust your priorities into perspective. At the moment I'd consider myself pretty poor - I have a grand total of £15 a week for food and other things after bills and rent. How many expensive electrical consumer products do you think I'm planning on buying in the near future? None!
because poor people totally have the money to go to walmart at 5 am to buy a $300 50' inch tv like I did or buy a ps3, xbox 360, that same tv, a blu ray player, and an entire shopping cart full of 360/ps3 games and spent almost $1,500 like the lady in front of me did.
Perhaps she saved that money up?
Perhaps she saved that money of the period of the year?
Poor people saving for 50' inch tv...
Perhaps she saved that money of the period of the year?
Even if she did do that it would still cost a god damn fortune to be installed.
Poor people saving for 50' inch tv...
How else are we supposed to get nice things? If we only have like 50 dollars left over after bills and food we have to save that up for a while, as well as not spending it on other things like clothes or something. You probably can't understand since I'm sure you've probably been financially stable your whole life and have a reasonably modern computer and probably multiple flat-screen TVs and phones and mp3 players and game consoles, but imagine how it's like for us when our only TV is a 20 year old 32 inch tube TV and our computer is a 800mhz Pentium 3 that takes 5 minutes to open an internet browser and our only phone is a landline and those are the only pieces of electronics we own.
"Things you own, end up owning you" And what the fuck, mosh pits are safer than this.
Of course they are. My friend has been in several. Once a guy dropped his glasses and people around him stopped and help him find them before resuming the mosh pit.
How else are we supposed to get nice things? If we only have like 50 dollars left over after bills and food we have to save that up for a while, as well as not spending it on other things like clothes or something.
Let me say that again. Poor people and 50' inch tv... You have barely any money for bills and food and you're gonna save money for 50' inch tv? Seriously? Might as well start saving for lambo...
Can you explain what exactly your problem is with somebody saving up to get a nice thing? I appreciate passive-aggressive "triple-periods-of-disgust" (...) and all, but I would like to hear your reasons. Also, I would like to know how your life has been financially. What kind of gadgets do you have in your house? Ever had money problems at all, and I mean real money problems, not just being late on a payment for your mortgage for your $300,000 home with two nice cars in the driveway in a beautiful neighborhood with pristine white sidewalks and perfect, roll-on lawns. To people like me, black friday is a godsend. Middle class people dream about saving up for a few years to buy a 30k car or a new house, poor people like me dream about saving for a computer that doesn't freeze from opening more than 2 tabs or a TV that was made in the last decade or a smartphone so they could have something that allows them a glimpse of what it's feels like to be somebody who has money. Yes there are occaisonally amazing deals at other times in the year, but most of the time the deal is over by the time you learn about it. Black Friday, and the sales leading up to it, are a good distance away from the previous year's Xmas, so you've had 10-11 months time to save up to buy gifts for yourself and others.
