Actually a tesseract isn't [i]really[/i] a 4th-dimensional object. Carl Sagan explains that it is that shadow of an object in the 4th dimension, like if you move a 3D object through a 2D plane, or represent the shadow of a cube on the surface of a desk. (e.g. if you move a sphere up and down through a 2D plane, it appears to get bigger or larger).

it requires 4 dimensions to define a tesseract (16 vertices). how isn't it [i]really[/i] 4-dimensional?
these are the vertices of a tesseract. as you can see, there's 4 coordinates (x, y, z, w) for each vertex.

i got high once and thought really really hard about the 4th dimension once and i figured that if you could travel faster than the speed of light and "swerve" through the 4th dimension, then "swerve" back and slow down again, if you could figure in all the rotations of the earth, movement of the earth around the sun, the movement of our solar system around the superdense core of the milky way, AND the movement of the galaxy around whatever kind of axis the universe spins on, you could travel time and NOT end up lost floating in space.
i had a sort of formula all worked out, then i burnt it and forced myself to forget it. too dangerous.
I'm not sure if we finished the time vs spacial argument here, buy I'm a fan of the idea that it is more of both, and that it is indeed what we view as time. I've always followed Dr. Kaku's explanation of the 11 dimensions, which is similar to that in the 10-dimension video.

I did this when I wasn't high. Though I didn't save it or anything. I was going to do a crank thread on /x/ and needed to calculate the exact time I would have had to time travel from to say I was a time traveler. I also had it figured out how far of a distance I would need to space travel and at what speed in order to time travel from the year 2037, and how long that would take.

No we very much see in 3 dimensions dipstick, our eyes give us binocular vision and allow is to see the depth of a substance or object.
Where do people get the shit of us not being able to see 3 dimensions or shit, seriously it's almost as bad as the new age bullshit of crystals having feelings.

The 4th dimension can bee seen as time or another physical dimension.
What you are looking for is probably the second universe. most likely made out of anti-mater looking 100% the same as the mater universe. but anything going there will disintegrate. (mater + anti-mater = nothing)

I can imagine stepping through a wall aswell, but thats not at all what it means for the 4th dimension. Thats just the closest word I can think of that relates to a 4th dimensional movement.

That's funny, just last night after reading this thread I got an idea for a science fiction novel where humans travel through the fourth dimension briefly in order to cover large distances in the third dimension. The space ships would have to travel with all windows covered since observing the fourth dimension would cause a person to go into a coma since human minds are unable to perceive the fourth dimension :v:
