HINT: IT'S IN OUR GENETIC MAKEUP. IT'S WHY YOU DON'T SEE BABIES WITH MAC 10s. [editline]03:40PM[/editline] when i was a baby i had a mac 10 [editline]03:40PM[/editline] i was genetically predispositioned to pimp
Morals are created by us because we decided at one point that working together, i.e. not killing each other is beneficial to both parties.
haha...killing parties... i bet thats something you're used to! nerds!!!! [editline]03:41PM[/editline] im on fire today.
haha...killing parties... i bet thats something you're used to! nerds!!!! [editline]03:41PM[/editline] im on fire today.
Zing.
No they won't. People don't naturally want to kill other people. The only times when people have been able to kill others is when they became brainwashed in some way to believe the other person was less than human in some way.
Psychopathy is in fact a measurable hereditary condition, good sir.
Fuck.. I don't know about you guys but I would kill people all the time if not for societal pressures. Like that little punk that broke into my car and stole my sons car seat, diaper bag, and my gear shifter knob (wtf sense does that make?).. Or that dumb self-important bitch, yakking on her cell, that rear-ended me at that stoplight while I had the baby in the back. It was all I could do to keep from grabbing my .44 mag from under the seat and putting 310 grains of hot lead in her 'too stupid to deserve to live' brain. I guess it mostly goes back to those 'protect the family' instincts. Most times I contemplate murder, it's to take care of perceived threats to the kids or my mate.

And you think of your wife as "your woman". I mean really, that's just crude.
i own ten women
That's because you're an uncontrollable slob
Hahaha. You don't have a clue about what level of cleanliness I keep. To infer otherwise simply shows your frustrated flailing about, too inept to properly express your disagreement.
who exists to be vaguely pointed from one direction to the other all your life.
A vague and pointless insult. A psychologist would view this as a self-image transposed onto another person for you to dump on to make yourself feel better. A pitiable way of dealing with low self esteem imho..
And you think of your wife as "your woman". I mean really, that's just crude.
I was speaking about instincts. Again, you make an unsupported (laughable) assumption that I don't respect the person I've chosen to spend my life with. Lemme guess, You're a religious nut and don't recognize that humans are subject to the same basic instincts as other animals. This would be the only way I can think of that you would miss the instinctive connotation I used when I referenced my wife.
god shut up psycho0124 you are a retard [editline]03:59PM[/editline] everyone just shut up im trying to think

Ultimately pointless, in some cases harmful. The mere fact that you can't distinguish between having instincts and having to follow instincts just proves my point.
I am no mortal so this does not affect me :smug: (Sorry, I had to...) but srsly, No shit, sherlock. I love that even in movies everyone gets the morality shit and the get fucked up because of that. Like In Inglorious Basterd [sp] At the end the chick saw the guy moving, the guy who wanted to rape her, she did not finish him off she goes there and like "Oh man i was rude :(" and there, she gets shot because of it. stupid bitch.[/sp] Common sense >Morality.
The only thing you were right on in your whole post was that there is no objective morality.
The only thing you were right on in your whole post was that there is no objective morality.
Of course there's objective morality. It's just that nobody can agree on what the purpose of morality is.
Of course there's objective morality. It's just that nobody can agree on what the purpose of morality is.
You are not a naturalist if you think there's objective morality.
Actually I wasn't referring to your cleanliness, I was referring to your slobbish, or as some might say slobian demeanor.
Life's way to short to be civilized all the time. I am when I need to be (and sorry, facepunch forums don't really demand highly civilized behavior). I find my slobian demeanor pretty damned entertaining sometimes. Many of these instincts did arise during social phases in our development after all. More often than not, these instincts can provide insights in daily life situations if managed properly (that's why we have frontal lobes!). I (as well as the man you use as an avatar) believe instincts should be viewed as tools that we can learn to use, not dirty remnants of our filthy animal ancestry that should be buried and ignored at all costs (your view sounds more like fundie creationist propaganda than Darwinian understanding) . You're not a very good atheist naturalist.. (Have you even read any of his books?!)
The mere fact that you can't distinguish between having instincts and having to follow instincts just proves my point.
You can't read very well either it seems. Where in anything I've written have I said I mindlessly followed an instinct? I described what my basal brain would have done, not the actions I took.
Everything has its own negative sides.
Bacon has no negative sides; only a tradeoff.
You are not a naturalist if you think there's objective morality.
It depends on what you're referring to. If you're talking about some Kantian moral code, I don't think that exists. However, I do believe that you can objectively create a set of rules that most help you achieve a stable society. I would call that morality. In a sense.

And they can't be considered morals, because they don't imply evil if you don't follow them (or at least to logical person they don't)
I would call those laws. [editline]01:21PM[/editline] Fuck you ryan
I'm for the most part against laws that restrict victimless crimes like pot though. There's no reason not to legalize it. I don't know what the government is fucking doing. Maybe slightly off-topic.

"Better" is not a word that applies to anything really if you're being objective. Clearly moral codes exist and they all serve different purposes, but one is not better than any other.
I love talking about morality and things of that nature, but it would appear that only about a third of the people in the thread know what they're talking about. ;_;

Instincts are useless for discussion, decision, or conversation. Instincts are nothing more than the embodiment of stone age fears and lusts, with all the attached irrationality. While your choices will always be made with the tinge of instinct evident, you should never make choices because of instinct. As a human you have to ability to challenge your own conceptions and choose what is most logical based on the known evidence. Because a rational person knows that "filling people full of hot lead" is just a really stupid and monstrous action. And then you try you to try to equate it to protecting your children.
I have no moral. But I say please when I ask of something.
