To number 2, you do notice how time seems to get faster as you get used to the planet right?
That's a problem of human perception. It's solvable.
And you'll die due to lack of food. It's called Entropy.
Being biologically immortal does not mean you are immune to bullets or lack of food.
Well to be fair I'm sure it was a mostly satirical article and they didn't have your definition of immortality in mind, beside, who knows, maybe it will become possible later on to use a highly efficient source of energy as a replacement for our existing biological energy system.
You don't have to recharge for 1000 years, then what :v:
You are going to die. So is everyone else.
That's a problem of human perception. It's solvable.
Not really when every human being has a different perception.
Wait, if you can live forever, then wouldn't you get to the see the end of Universe possibly?
Immortality would be telomerazing
:rimshot:
Immortality is a cute idea for a "better world" but in the end, immortality would just drain the planets resources until we all just survived painfully and miserably for eternity.
The stress on our planet is bad enough with 6 billion mortals, I wouldn't want to imagine what it'd look like if none of them died.
think of all the things we can see if we're immortal
we're gonna need a bigger memory storage
If you guys want to grow old and die, feel free to do so. Just don't get in my way of living.
What age will you retire? Or will it be like it is now, where you can never afford to retire so you work until you drop?
I wouldn't want to become immortal in my fleshy human form, because the whole "living-til-sun-possibly-goes-supernova" thing does not appeal to me.
You are going to die. So is everyone else.
Haha, no I'm not.

Colonization?
We will all die because our cells can only divide a certain amount of times. Unless we can figure out a way to reset that amount we will all age, and die.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to live with you either.

Thanks for the brotip.

I wouldn't want to live with a jackass either, especially one that is impatient with slower people :colbert:
Well, I wouldn't mind to be digitally immortalized (aka putting your consciusness in a computer), but biological immortality? Maybe, but will it be worth living?
Well, I wouldn't mind to be digitally immortalized (aka putting your consciusness in a computer), but biological immortality? Maybe, but will it be worth living?
How could you make yourself digital?

The question you should be asking is, is not living forever worth dying for?
Living forever may get boring, but it's better than being dead.

Here's a little thought experiment:
We exchange a neuron in a brain with a chip that functions the same as the neuron does, and the person remains the same after the swap. We continue to swap neurons to chips, and the person's still the same as before, and stop when we only have a single neuron left, and the person still has the same personality.
What happens if we exchange the last neuron with a chip?

I'd assume that it would be the same as lobotomizing yourself
Little bits of who you are continually getting eaten up until that person is gone.
I'd rather die after I've done everything and seen everything. Nothing can last forever, and nothing is meant to last forever.

will people drop this horse bollocks
nothing is meant to do anything, things do what they do of their own accord.
Having a breakfast of eggs and bacon is no more "unintended by nature" than is making a chicken alligator human hybrid.

Colonization?
Yeah good luck with that whole colonization, you realize we can't even send a man to Mars because it takes years and years? We haven't found any hospitable, sustainable planets in our galaxy, so you're talking about an intergalactic trip to find planets to colonize with billions of immortal idiots.
We are all going to die. Even if we become "imortal", the Sun will consume us. IF we escape that, the universe will collapse back into a singulatity eventully. We all will die, it's just a matter of time. The sooner you acept it, the better.

Well they are immortal, so time isn't a problem I guess.

More like: Nothing is immortal/endless without intervention, with the possible exception of space. Why change that if it isn't gonna make a difference?

Yeah yeah, life is a meaningless rat race, etc. . .
Call me back when you get your prozac.

Matter and energy cannot be destroyed. So therefor they are endless.
We are made of matter. So what the fuck is your problem?

Maybe matter in itself is, but a lifeform like an animal, or something like a planet won't exist forever in that form. There are no immortal animals (that I know of), unless we'd do something like stated here.

There is a species of jellyfish that continually reverts back to "childhood" and is essentially immortal
