So, a friend of mine is being harrassed online and I don't like where this is going.
Just tell her to get off the internet, or drag her out yourself at all costs.
Do remind her its a waste of one's patience to care about trolls on the internet.
But whatever you do, don't feed the trolls in any way possible.
Oh no, absolutely... not feeding the trolls is my natural reaction, at this point. But to her... not so much.
I told her to get off the internet for a while, or to use it if she really needs it but to refrain from accessing those pages, but she thinks "it's easier for me to say, because you're not targeted and attacked every day"...
I still told her she shouldn't waste an ounce of energy thinking about the trolls, but somehow they get the best of her. *Sigh*
All you can do is motivate her to not take it personally. E-Bullies are easy to deal with because...well...you don't have to deal with them. It's as simple as getting off the computer or removing yourself from that situation. It's not like out in the real world where you would have to encounter that person due to work or school.
Precisely! I swear I told her this too, I gave her many, many convincing reasons to listen to me, but it works around 30% of the time... seeing as she's way more sensitive than me (and less internet-savvy), she thinks it's hard when in reality is SUPER simple to deal with. :/
I don't understand tbh
What are you worried about?
About someone taking the trolls' side and making it even worse, to be honest. Again, I really care about this girl and I don't want it to feel any worse.
Is this your friend in real life or do you just chat on facebook?
Actually either way it might help if you played hard-ball to some degree
Maybe I'm mistaken but from what I've gathered of your personality from this thread, you might be coddling her with your advice/comfort
People need strong words and ultimatums and so on sometimes :v:
She's my internet friend, and yeah I agree... I try to be as harsh as possible, but I haven't given her an ultimatum... that might work--or not. Hmm :/
She's kinda dumb for not listening to your advice. Perhaps you could remove her from the page's admins, that would redirect the hate toward other admins. Also pretend she died in a car accident.

She seems like the type of person who can't grasp that not everyone is going to like her or want to treat her nicely. Sure, it shouldn't be that way, but it's a reality everyone has to face. Regardless of how good of a person you are, and no matter how nice you are there is still someone out there that will take enjoyment in trying to ruin that.
She just needs to harden up a bit; hell, I used to be super sensitive about stuff like that. Then I spent a lot of time on Facepunch and dealing with assholes in my personal life so it made me a lot more tougher when dealing with it. Now I just brush it off and tell them to jog on.
how the fuck is the original post funny
i really hoped the people that voted it funny actually mis-clicked since this isnt a troll
i'm sure there's an anti cyber bullying campaign in australia, but even if i'm pretty sure since it's on facebook and it's international it would still be valid maybe nah idk
Just so you guys can see the kind of posts I reported as harrassment on fb and weren't deleted, here they are, made by one of the admins of that page impersonating my friend Nicole (one, two, tree).
Those are the most agressive, then there are a lot of other posts and pictures just mocking her... not as agressive, but still hurtful for her.
By all means, please report them and hopefully, Scumbag FB will do something about it this time. :/

I know, but so far she finds it very difficult.
Seems like you'd be better off encouraging her to talk to a psychiatrist. Clearly what you've been doing hasn't worked.

At this point... I feel like my hands are tied. *Sigh*
Facebook loves money. Recently there's a respected public figure who's articles about Racial Polarization had been banned by Facebook, because it touches some revealing aspects of chinese political party history, even though that article was put up on some newspapers. Chances are that some chinese has been paying off FB to take down that article, because a lot of other articles that discusses social history that in favour of chinese was kept intact, even if its rather distorted and been complained on.
Maybe if you can make a donation to FB they'll do something. i dunno
Seems like you'd be better off encouraging her to talk to a psychiatrist. Clearly what you've been doing hasn't worked.
Keep in mind that he said before that she's from Aussieland and Pretiacruento is not. So that's not as easy as it sounds.
Regardless of whether or not seeing a psychiatrist is better, she'd still benefit from having these posts removed. I have reported them myself, the more reports (make sure you report it as "this post harasses a friend of mine") these posts get the better.
I'd suggest that you go so far as to threaten removing her from the page, just so she can chill out about it.
And if she leaves the page, the trolls would think they won and (hopefully) move on, at which point she may be able to return.
[editline]7th August 2013[/editline]
Since she clearly can't separate herself from the trolls, another admin probably could for her.
Go on the news about it.
They will eat this up, and will give Facebook some seriously bad press.
Any death/rape/etc threats?
Trolls are stupid. Wait for one to slip up and do something illegal, then go the cops.
Similar thing happened to me years back. (though it wasn't on FB)
buddy who was very prone to over-reacting to trolls was getting shit thrown at him and he really tried to tell them to stop
so, i decided to step in
i painted MYSELF as the most perfect target for trolls to hit making myself seem like the most whiny fuck to ever exsist etc.
it worked for a while. friend had less people to deal with, didn't completly stop mind you but it helped.

I reported them, not sure how much help that'll do, but hey, it can't hurt.
To be honest, I'd probably just dox the assshole if I were in the same situation (not that I suggest you should, but from the sound of it, it's a bad situation). If Facebook doesn't take any action, you should on your own.
:/
this is why
" but take action on all reports of abusive behavior directed at private individuals. "
technically speaking nicole is just a first name
"On Facebook people connect using their real names and identities. We ask that you refrain from publishing the personal information of others without their consent. Claiming to be another person,"
ditto with this
I reported them. Not sure if it will help or not.
Any way that you could feed the trolls to redirect towards you instead so you can shrug off the brunt of it? Because I can't see any other way to help if she can't learn to ignore them.
The problem is that a bunch of those aren't particularly bad on their own, especially as a guy who has to sift through reports and all that shit all day, and doesn't know that there's some common thread that is really putting someone down.
I know you've probably tried it, but contacting facebook directly (or someone from facebook) with a well worded series of events would be best, unless there's something you can get the cops in on (threats, etc).
If all else fails, figure out how to get some physical support to her, like parents/nearby friends.

This would be a good idea, except it looks like the person in question isn't averse to shitting on multiple people at once. And if you don't know what you're doing, you're only going to feed the flame
I never realized that those Facebook pages were such serious business.

I was actually considering that... I already know who's behind all this, plus a few admins on that page... I was thinking of just going in and deleting the posts myself, but I'm still not sure it'd be for the best--though it's VERY tempting.

This also sounds very tempting, specially because I'm sure it'll get things done, but I'm not sure. :/
[editline]7th August 2013[/editline]
As I said before, the most infuriating thing to deal with here, is Fb and their complete lack of assistance on the matter... one really feels pretty powerless in a situation like this.

I did some research on who actually owns the page, reading her profile made me question some things. For one she didn't seem like the kind of person that would do this sort of thing.
So I added her, turns out she's actually a decent person. I talked with her a bit and explained some things, she then removed the content that was offensive :

Why did you not try this first?

Because there was a post on one of her many accounts, bashing the page (sorry I can't find it, she mentioned she got that account reported and now I lost that). That led me to think that she (the admin and owner of that other page) is taking part on the shitposting. Besides, this has been going on for MONTHS already, I'm pretty sure she's well aware of that. :/

This is a form of cyber bullying if harassment. You could report to the police and this person could get arrested
