How is face swapping software going to help us progress in a meaningful way? Oh right it isn't.
For one, it has huge application in movie industry. Or as someone else said, lipsyncing dubs. Just because you lack creativity does not mean it's useless. Weren't first discoveries of electricity considered useless and just used to make lightning and sparks for fun? Imagine if they thought like you and scrapped all further research.

And again if I lack creativity then what do you think it could be used for beyond the movie industry that's actually important or beneficial enough that it outweighs the negative applications?

Like rndgenerator said, when you first make something new, you can only imagine it being used in a very very limited way. You seem to believe that you understand the entirety of this technology's potential, as well as the potential of every new innovation that could possibly be inspired by it! The point is, we don't know yet. This knee-jerk reaction is premature and ignorant. Let's just see where it goes, eh? It's not like you can ban, stifle or undo it.
This has some very scary implications for the future, imagine how things can be faked with this technology - politicians made to say things they didn't for propaganda, people being convicted by corrupted police forces due to faked video evidence etc.
They said the same thing about Photoshop

The innovation here is just offering it as a compact ready-made solution, there is even a pretty large trade-off in quality, compared to a custom solution. If you're scared of technology like this, you should have been scared for a long time, not for the 'future'. This is pretty much just a lightweight version that is more suitable for more casual software implementation
Every time I see super impressive computer vision research, my immediate reaction is YES THIS IS HOW WE'LL MAKE ANIME REAL
