Starting My Own Clothing Brand in the UK V2: Veil Edition

So what are you trying to tell people with your logotype?
I also wonder what you're trying to tell people with your brand name. To me, "veil" seems to have a connotation of hiding yourself behind clothing.
professional a-hole?
you clearly don't have a clue about how the real world works, especially designed based. design is a service, not charity. designers need to make a living as much as a data entry office worker does, don't be so blind as to think that people ask for pay for concepts just because they're trying to milk money out of the client and falsely lead them along, they need to make a living, and a lot of that living starts with concepts for a client to begin your relationship.
I was largely joking with that post, but I would feel like if a designer were to be paid for a concept, he ought to be an employee of the company. A contractor tends to be paid for finished work (though sometimes he might be paid half of his pay during the project.)
I guess I don't know how brand design works. I know I personally wouldn't charge for concepts though I might, in this scenario, end up charging more for a finished product. (I am somewhat experienced with art. As a musician in a group, we play free shows all the time for organizations like the VFW; as a Modder, I do free work all the time for fun with the remote possibility of exposure.) I might understand how a man that lives solely on art might need the income from concept work, though. I feel as if one might become clouded by money should he focus too much on it. On the other hand, paying for concepts might ensure that your artist won't forget about you during the concept stage and will treat you as if you were one of his long time brands.
Back to my payroll vs. contractor comparison -- A contractor does charge for things like estimates, though I have seen a fair share who do not.
I can definitely see the 'veil'.
I really like it, but it's probably too obscure for a lot of people. I like it because it's different.
I like it aswell. But perhaps for other reasons then. I even made a text based construction model if you wanna recreate it (although the translation might be really crappy):v::
1. Draw a horizontal line segment AB with length 1.
2. Draw a circle with r=1 at point A and point B.
3. Mark the lowest intersection point "C".
4. Mark the highest intersection point between the two circles "D".
5. Draw a circle with r=1 at point C.
6. Mark the bottom right intersection point between the two circles "E"
7. Draw line AC and BC.
8. Draw a line CD.
9. Draw a line AE.
10. Mark the intersection point between DC and AE with "M"
11. Draw a line parallel to BC on M and touching AC and AB creating line BC"1
12. Draw two parallel lines to BC Touching AC and AB by dividing the hight from BC to BC"1 into thirds on the end of each third creating the longest parallel line BC"3 and a shorter line BC"2.
13. Mark the touching point from BC"1 with AB with F
14. Draw a vertical line at B from AB to the hight of point C
15. Draw a parallel line to AB at C to the hight of pint B
But ya could go even more minimalistic and make the drawing represent the logo like:

Alt-J is gonna love me...
Did some experimenting, odds are it's bad but if you're interested I can put a lot more work in.

Well shit, that's actually pretty cool. I'm not sure which I prefer, the first type, or the more minimal version. I'd be really interested to see what a designer would do with that.
Why tanks, cool that you like it. Personally I'm not too experienced with corporation design work. However I feel like the "minimalistic" one could offer some better adaptation. Implement the text with logo like:

It's only sketchwork. Ask somebody else what he reads when he sees it without knowing what it's ment to be.
what style of clothing are you looking to make?

You may not be experienced but you're pretty much a gold mine for ideas so far. This is great.
just had a play about with that sketch. thought it'd look cool if the lines got gradually darker.

Knocked up a slightly cleaner version in illustrator it's not perfect but just gives you a better idea. Could definitely see something like this as an icon to be honest, but I can't help but feel like it's missing something.
try it in some different colourways
Also I think I'm going to make the next thread in a different section, the sorting in GD is screwing us I think :(
I don't really get why the default of sorting is the way it's now. Really annoying for some threads.
On another note. I like your furbished version. I'd be careful with colouring though. I'd just play around with it a bit to see what fits. Try dark grey background and drop a smooth black shadow from the lines on it. Put text along side or next to it to give it some context. Font I was using was Minimal

To be honest I really just want to keep it plain old simple black and white. It just works, it's clean and modern.

Just found this on pinterest, looks similar. Really nice.

Looks very good, could even work being incorporated in some of your clothing.

Yeah the lines I think would be thicker in the end result, they're slightly strobey in their current form because they're too close together, but maybe that's just my eyes.
Well I don't think the similarity is that significant tbh. I like how that the space between the lines is the same as the lines thickness. Wouldn't be too sure about making them thicker but rather having them thinner while keeping the same dimensions (also never drop the sharp edges). I can't look at it very objectively anymore though. All I can say is that I think it kinda provides the brand recognition for me already. Then again we haven't seen much of your stuff yet :v:
Did ya send your thoughts to some designer by now?
Yeah I've sent over the concepts in the thread. We'll see what he makes of it.

After reading through everything this is what I came up with. I did it with paint so theres no AA.
So is this thread dead or what? Because I got an idea for a logo last night and sketched it out quick.

Obviously I'm no designer and it'd need a lot of tidying up but I thought it was pretty cool.
