Audiophiles are the stupidest fucking people in the world
Luckily the wall sockets in my room are well built, I guess. Same can't be said about the lights in the ceiling though, because they go dimmer every time my little brother boots his SLI 8800GT i5 desktop :v:
They must be tied to the same circuit then.
People design circuits really shittily in houses these days. Its logical to tie lights together per floor, not tie them into random outlets in a room, because it just lets dumb people trip them easier.
Anyways, back on on track.
If anyone wants to wade through a bit of text, here is some stuff on cochlear degeneration:
Okay, I have a problem then. I have a pair of these

And they sound really good compared to my sonys. I thought they were pretty great, and now everyone's saying they're pieces of shit.
Wat do.

As in, what are some great-quality earbuds that are durable and under $100?
I can ask for new ones for Christmas.
Personally I fucking love Skullcandy earbuds. They sound pretty good to me and they're cheap. If you don't want to stick with the Skullcandy ones get some nice Koss earbuds. Only $24.
Lilly, first of all, you're enjoying your earbuds so why should you change, because someone told you to? Second of all, why does someone else's opinion matter, when stuff like headphones are meant only for your own personal enjoyment? I use an equalizer and many audiophiles shun equalizing, hell if I'd actually like Skullcandies I'd use them just because I can. You shouldn't give a crap about some elitist opinion if you're happy with your buds.
I prefer having music of the better quality.
I don't tend to enjoy music that's under 256kb/s (trust me you can hear the difference) otherwise I have my nice little 2.1 sound system and a pair of cheap headphones with a gold plated input jack and the same frequency range as sennheisers and skullcandies.
You don't really need anything more :v:
frequency range
It's more of a rule than exception that frequency ranges are exaggerated in order to make products seem better. Even if they weren't, the frequency range alone would tell you hardly anything of the headphone characteristics. Frequency response, in the other hand tells you both frequency range (and does so more honestly, usually, depending on who measured and published it) and some sound characteristics, although it doesn't tell you the whole truth either.

For example here you see the Grado having the brightest sound with emphasis in treble and mids, there's some mid-bass but not much lower bass. HD555 is the most neutral because lows, mids and highs all are relatively close to each other, whereas Beyerdynamic DT 770 and Audio-Technica M50 emphasize the bass a bit.
The things a frequency response curve doesn't tell you is how "fast" the speaker in the headphone is, or how quickly it can move from one position to another in order to re-produce more details in the sound, also the 'soundstage', the way the sound seems to travel from one ear to another is hard to describe in numbers, and it mainly depends on the physical anatomy of the headphones. That being said I listen to things before I buy, and if that's impossible then I rely on the general consensus of Head-Fi about a certain product (which usually isn't too far off), although of course one has to compare the said consensus with their own tastes and opinions.
I'm currently using the Sennheiser HD280 which I just love to death. Bought them off my friend for like 50 dollars. But my hearing is starting to go out from job so I'm using monitors now rather than headphones. If anyone has 300 to burn look into these:

I love blasting these guys up and having the air around me vibrate.

I would love to see this with a skullcandy graphed in as well :v:
also I have the ATH-M50, love it.
Oh, spending money on something suddently makes you STUPID?
What about the guys buying a 4 way GTX 580 SLI, the EVGA classified, and two i7-980x? Are they also a part of the most stupid people in the world?
No.
Oh, what about people buying supercars ? Oh wait, cause they spend money on something that they can get cheaper, they're suddently stupid.

The buds aren't actually half bad, but the full-sized headphones are a rollercoaster. But in Skullcandy's defense I've got to say I cherry picked the most funny looking curves and I'm comparing them to one of the most neutral headphones in the sub-$500 price bracket. Truth be told even decent bass heavy headphones like DT 770, Beats, and M50 look a bit un-even from the curve, but they excel in all other departments like accuracy, detail and durability etc, but that's their job, to be bass heavy. It's more about that mid-range rollercoast that puts me off, it's an audible unnatural, flat and veiled mid range. Having tested some Skullcrushers I didn't like them at all and the bass distorted a good bit, and I've heard multiple stories of them being broken in few months of use.
You can build your own graphs in here: http://www.headphone.com/learning-center/build-a-graph.php
Also, what I use to test if there's audible distortion, just so I can check if my new stuff is DOA: http://www.audiocheck.net/testtones_index.php

Why do I keep explaining crap although nobody asked me to? I blame my boring and repetitive office job :3:
Yeah, I used to have skullcrushers. I enjoyed the physical vibrance but the actual quality of the sound was tin-canny, made annoyingly evident when you turned off the "subwoofer". one ear began to rattle heavily just short of a year after purchase, and a bit later the bass wouldn't play in either ear unless you held the left ear's wire at an odd angle against the headset.
I have some decent equipment (KRK RP-5s and an EMU-1616M)
that's hi-fi compared to my shit
but i'm keepin my MPC shit it's got street cred
haha pretty funny shit OP
I've used mid-range CREATIVE speakers and a subwoofer, mainly to be able to hear what 90 percent of people will. I know there's, like, a 30e sound card that's amazing, I'd like to get one

'cuz it's fun.
Here's something I've always wondered- are Skullcandies actually comfortable? I mean, if you're going to justify paying too much for something if not for the sound, that's reasonable enough to me. Hell, my favorite (listening) headphones are my ATH-700s just because they feel like heaven on my head, even if they're not quite as good as my other stuff.
Some skullcandies are quite comfortable actually

Haven't worn any for long perioids of time. Definitely not bad but not "wow"-inducing either. If someone wants no bullshit bass heavy headphones that still fare well in mids and highs, that are comfortable I can recommend the Sony XB-700, they have the thickest and softest faux leather cushions ever (more like pillows), are very light and have a huge bass reserve, and I suppose they aren't over $100 either, here they're 80€.

I'm not really going expensive for the sound but for image i like the expensive stuff.
This is my HDMI cable i use for PS3 and 360.

I saw a noticeable difference with Monster cables back when I had my original xbox and my only other option was the crappy cable that came with it. I don't think you're going to notice much difference between a standard HDMI cable and a gold-plated super shielded monster HDMI, ever.

yep you won't, it's a digitial connection unlike composite which is analog
You're a fucking idiot, go fuck off and die now. kthxbai.
What, I'm an idiot? For what, for telling you that your cheap ass plastic consumer grade audio equipment really isn't all that great when compared to audiophile standards?
it's funny because digital isn't modified nor degraded by cables
Actually there's the whole jitter thing when bitstreaming or simply using s/pdif. Which does distort the audio, and that's just how the system is set up. Only recently have HDMI for example gotten a jitterless option which is indeed perfect.

I wouldn't mind Skullcandies if they didn't have shitty build quality. I've broken over 4 pairs, and I take good care of my headphones. My friend bought even their premium over-the-ear headphones for $120 (God knows why he did that when he could of got Sennheiser HD555's for the same price) but those broke shortly too.
He now uses a set of Shure Headphones that have lasted over a year. GG SkullCandy.
P.S: Funny story. Two years ago, I was telling a girl how SkullCandies always break and mine had broken. She had the same earbuds and said "Well, at least mine haven't broken."
The next day, she came in (to class) laughing about how her Earbuds had broken now too.

Still, means nowadays a $250 10-foot cable has no point when a perfectly good one comes with the Xbox. And if you want, you can buy a cheaper brand that works literally just as good.
My guess is that Skullcandy have a planned obsolescence stratagy with their products so that they are designed to break so that the customer can use their shitty warrenty where you have to play 50% of the cost rather than get a replacement free...
Some audiophiles are actually truly respectful human beings.
:colbert:
Skullcandys are a trend, not so much a person who is truly open to sounds achieved by an amp would buy a pair.

The Xbox can't use the new system pretty sure so it doesn't matter. In fact I'm not sure what can beyond a few super high end recievers.
If we're talking about comfort then I haven't found a pair of cans that have beaten my DT880s.
I could wear these for HOURS and not get tired of them. The only other pair of headphones that I have found is close to their comfort level is Sennheiser HD600s.

It's like miniature pillows
OP is the kind of person that likes downloading music illegally and doesn't care about the quality or if it's recorded through a microphone, as long as he has it.
Same kind of person that wants to watch a movie like Avatar or Lord of the Rings on your stupid little tiny phone screen and complain that others waste money on a home theater or a television at all.

$1150 power cables will not suddenly make it sound like somebody is playing a double bass right into your ears.
poeple are stupid, get over it
$1150 power cables will not suddenly make it sound like somebody is playing a double bass right into your ears.
Yeah but lumping and generalizing all people that consider themselves audiophiles to being the kind of person that spends $1150 on a cable (and probably something the OP can't afford) is also asinine. Sorry that people that spend money on wires piss you off so much, you should make a petition.

Wouldn't playing bass right into your ears really hurt?
