Audiophiles are the stupidest fucking people in the world

I'm not mad, more amused than anything, but still annoyed. This is far beyond an equipment preference, "these cans sound better than those" is a preference. "I shined a light on my CD and it sounded better" is idiotic.
Good point, but if they want to spend there damn money on some thing spend it on something that actually works, not something that's advertised to work but doesn't do jack shit.
Also I use 20$ sony earphones, they work pretty well on my Iphone.
I prefer FLAC over mp3's just so when I burn CD's for friends I don't get (arguably) crappier sounding music. However, this is just insane. It is fun though to tell stories about my dad's pair of speakers that are 6 feet tall, those things are AWESOME.
And in regards to the original post,
PLACEBO'S, PLACEBO'S EVERYWHERE.
Damnit my right headphone is making a buzzing noise whenever there's anything bassy :frown:
I had a decent pair of headphones but they broke and I've been stuck with a 5 dollar pair of Maxwell(or something) brand headphones.
:/
Are they good or bad in performance.

I can't even begin to fathom the power of the placebo effect with a purchase such as this. Your mind would do anything to convince you that it was worth dropping $1200 on a power cable

Skullcandy is shit. The designs are shit, they don't have any real reason to be expensive either.
I am a huge fan of Sennheisers though. My HD555's do the trick 100%, and only for $100. Had a lower THD, and lower impedance. The build quality, and the drivers on the headset are perfect.
The Skullcandy alternative at the price failed to draw me in. The specifications denoted lesser quality of the product, the longevity and build quality, I do not know, but they were not worth the price. However, they're a huge big hit. But yet, most people do not hear the frequencies that I can.
And for "autophilia"; I have my entire library in FLAC. I also have it mirrored in MP3 320k. My FLAC collection totals up to be approximately 1.5TB for ~90,000 songs strung through ~1700 artists. So to couple this meager audio collection to my guests, or myself, I aim to get the best equipment I can purchase to achieve a higher level of quality. Especially at higher volumes.
FLAC + Audio-Technica ATH-pro5v + Asus Xonar D1 = Feels good man.
Shit I'm starting to get lost, can someone explain what FLAC is? Also I tried Skullcandy once and they are confirmed pieces of crap in my opinion
Currently blasting The Mob Song from The Beauty and the Beast in FLAC.
IT

GIVING
ME
CHILLS
And to anyone cares, I'll try to remember to take some pictures, of my dads speakers over Thanksgiving break.

A lossless codec

e: Oh and speaking of idiotic, I found this little gem searching for expensive equipment: http://6moons.com/audioreviews/jsmr/ultra.html
[img_thumb]http://6moons.com/audioreviews/jsmr/hero.jpg[/img_thumb]
They're called Ultra Tweeters, and they put out a 1 GHz signal. Yes, that's right, 1 gigahertz, slightly below what your cell phone works at. Of course the review comes up positive, despite it being literally impossible for it to have an affect beyond a negative one, i.e. producing EM interference, but hey it's only like $300. An absolute steal next to most of these
Damn, that's sounds like a waste of cash.

FLAC = Free Lossless Audio Codec. Most popular lossless codec, i.e. encodes raw audio in a 1 to 1, lossless i.e. perfect replication format. Sounds better to some, I like it. Bigger, but not unreasonably so.
So there super MP3 files?
In a sense, yes.
Real audiophiles have risky costly surgery to have amazing expensive lossless audio chords wired directly to their brains at the cost of completely loosing hearing.
adobe after effects is over 900 dollars and people still buy that shit
If you actually knew what it did then you would know that it is worth it.

Whoa whoa whoa... look who woke up on the cranky side of the bed this morning!

Anyhow, I was just about to pull the trigger on these... I'm not an audiophile by any means, but are those any good??
This is crap, not audiophile stuff.
Now I can see how power might play in, maybe contributing to the regularity of the noise floor? Affecting maybe the timing? (Probably significantly less than the impulse response of your speakers though.)
Who knows.
You're a fucking idiot, go fuck off and die now. kthxbai.
I read an audiophile forum once and some guy was getting everyone interested about sound-enhancing paper and it turned out all he'd done was wrap toilet paper around his stereo.
Real audiophiles have risky costly surgery to have amazing expensive lossless audio chords wired directly to their brains at the cost of completely loosing hearing.
I'm not sure if real audiophiles would go THAT far.
My god if those cords were sold for a normal price and without all the mumbo-jumbo I would so buy them.
I think I just read the best comment about this kind of thing ever:
Dave said:
The irony of spending 50k on your stereo system is that the album you’re listening to was probably recorded on 10k worth of equipment.
While many albums were laid down in million dollar studios, the bulk of the world’s recordings have probably been recorded on average equipment.
Any gains in sound quality you may hear on playback, sure as hell weren’t heard during recording and the artists/engineers probably didn’t even care that much.
If your playback equipment ever exceeds the cost of the studio, something's wrong.
The kind of people who have money to spend on this kind of thing are typically very wealthy. Their spending money like this helps the money go around, so no complaints.

Fuck those fancy Skullshit headphones. Get a pair of these and you'll never wanna even look at other headphones.
Kinda looks like those things you got with a portable cassette player/recorder.
i was about to rage out and explain how having the right equipment is one of the most important things to focus on when doing anything involving recording and/or mastering
then
i read the op
Calm the hell down there just people with an equipment preference damn it.
Also, I'm not an audiophile.
You quoted OP?
and thats overpriced shit that you don't truly need.
Here we have possibly the worst woo I have ever seen. The AER Disc Energizer. This magic (literally) little item supposedly improves the sound of a Cd by shining a light on it. No i'm not kidding. See for yourself: http://www.audiophilia.com/wp/?p=4744
[img_thumb]http://www.audiophilia.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/aer.jpg[/img_thumb]
A LIGHT SHINED ON A READ-ON MEDIA MAKES IT SOUND BETTER
There's no possible mechanism it could work on, no rhyme or reason why it would work, but it does! It makes a CD sound less digital, whatever that could possibly mean, and it does this: "Thus, the AER Energizer may mitigate or address some of the flaws of many recordings and in some way may be synergistic with Nagys digital cable." No explanation whatsoever, just a magical woo light that addresses flaws that you make up to make it seem valid.
And the best part? It's almost $900
A magic CD light is $900. And people have bought it, and given it good reviews. If that doesn't speak to insanity, I have no idea what would.
Lol who uses CD's anymore?
