I was making a joke about how the fact american cars have shit handling and seeing as how american trains are so unnecessarily heavy, they are the same.

Yeah I play openBVE sometimes.
It's much harder to drive trains in simulators than in real life though, I was incredibly surprised how easy it was to drive a Metropolitan Line train on the Underground.
I'm practically an expert at it now, driven over 200 miles on it.

This thread can't die.
Teenagers driving trains scares me, I'm guessing most of the people in this thread own all the railworks DLC?
There's more rail fans on FP than most would expect, I'm kinda half-one. I find it cool but don't know a lot yet

Railworks is more of a British game anyway because it doesn't have enough for the American train fanatics, so it's not worth the money here in the west.

Swing bridge in my hometown, yes it works. They opened it to allow the riverboat casinos in to dock and to allow barge traffic:

I played the everliving fuck out of this game
Oh, can you hear the mournful crying,
That's soaring through the Summer Breeze,
The haunted wailing of a steam train,
It takes me back and sets my spirit free.
My parents died when I was just a boy,
They sent me to my aunt in Tennessee.
But in those hills I stumbled on a railroad,
I knew right then it was the life for me.
I* still can hear the steam escapin',
and see the mighty men who made her go.
The smoke and fire hung in the air and called out to* my soul,
Pointing to the path I had to go.
The gleaming of the engines took my breath away,
Folks board the train to head on down the line,
All the sights, all the sounds, were like a siren call,
Come away, come see what you might find.
Now, that I am so much older,
The heartache and the pain has surely changed.
But now, my blood is of the railroad,
It's got my heart and courses through my veins.
I've always thought it would be nice to just get a job trucking/driving trains, and just seeing the whole US. Wouldn't have to buy a house, but it'd get very lonely.
I think this video clip should be added to the above video..
At least with the music

I want to know why they never brought back the 4-8-8-4's. They are fucking awesome.
well in todays world they would be uinfit for service due to people like greenpeace and other environmental groups, The old steam locomotives required more man hours to maintain and run that the modern EMD which is computer controlled vs. manual labor shoveling coal.
Its just not economical to build and bring them back onto the lines.. They are awesome machines and an icon in railroading but unfortunately they are a ghost of the past now. I remember EMD E and F units running along with C30's, now I see these trains rusting away in a scrap yard.
In a world that relies on fossil fuel the diesel electric is the way to go. New models are more "green" and fuel efficient, computer and remote controlled, somewhat lighter and more streamlined and cam haul heavier load longer.
I remember seeing this train working the lines in the 80's. and its really sad to know I can walk up to this very locomotive and see it rusting away and stripped of all its pride.

The Docklands Light Railway in London is pretty similar by the looks of things.

Why are the mountains blurry like that? The mountain to the right of the blurry ones isn't blurry at all.
Heat and fumes from the exhaust of the train.

I still remember the voice of those trains..
BING BOO
We are now entering... RICHMOND.
You'd have had great difficulty getting a DLR train to richmond.
Step aside boys, the real man's train is making an entrance.
