Well, quite honestly it ain't "awesome".
The sound is kind of metallic, but otherwise, it delivers very well for it's price.

I heard from almost any one who played a Squier that they're bad.
They're made from the wrong materials and fall apart pretty fast.
What is your budget frame?

Squier has been hit and miss with me, although I never owned one, I have played dozens of them over the years and some sound really good and other sound like total crap, really have to pick one up and try it out before you buy. My friend has a Squier strat from 96' I think and it sounds almost identical to his Fender one.
