Pg.lost - Key 9/10 This album is seriously the bomb. They're in my top 5 post-rock artists. The only reason I give them 9/10 is because one or two of the songs are a little stale. The songs feels to me like a mix of post rock and post metal, because it is a little harder than most post rock. Terrain and Weaver are my favorite songs on the album.

At the moment, the track I think is probably the best (at least I've heard) is Head High or Yes I Am.
[t]http://www.dlinkbring.com/albumpictures/fzg_4dgv9.jpg[/t] 9/10 A fantastic classic prog rock throwback album. Obvious influences from bands like Yes and Genesis.

I can see a lot of people liking this one though. For me, the production style ruins it, makes her otherwise sweet voice turn plasticy. Such a shame because there is some real heart in the artistry.
Biffy Clyro - Opposites 9/10 There's not alot about this album that I DON'T like. Got a chance to hear it and the beginning reels you in so damn well. My only problem is that while it is a great double album, some songs kind of fall flat and hurt the dynamic the band was going for. Other than that, it's the Biff's greatest recent album.
9/10 Say what you want about this kids attitude, personality, or style or whatever, but after listening to this album, no person should ever doubt his musical talent or ability. It's a great album, but it feels short, and some of the new songs are lacking.

Going to do another album marathon sometime soon-ish, I have 12 albums now. Might add a few more, but this should be enough.
Going to do another album marathon sometime soon-ish, I have 12 albums now. Might add a few more, but this should be enough.
You should do one for Boris's discography
You should do one for Boris's discography
I was actually planning on doing that at some point. Right now I'm just going to do a normal one, though.

This is some pretty nice folk and I now plan to check out his other stuff (I've heard good things about Pink Moon. I only listened to this first because of Akuma No Uta). Nick Drake's voice is also beautiful 4/5 [editline]10th February 2013[/editline] Speaking of Akuma No Uta... IMO this is the third best Boris album, after Feedbacker and Flood. There's no bad tracks on here, although it feels more like a showcase for Boris's other albums than an album by itself. It's a very good entry point to Boris since it has a little bit of everything 4.5/5

Been a long time since I've done one of these Tape - Rideau So this album was featured on a best of list a couple of years back, and I took a listen and rather enjoyed it for what it was. But the fact that's stuck in my mind for the last couple of years goes to show that it's a little more than "enjoyable for what it is". Rideau is a post-rock album coming from a very ambient standpoint, there's no psychedelic freakouts or anything - just clear textures, some great melding of instruments, and some really nice composition. The first song dips in and out from bright crystalline electronics overlayed with some tasteful guitar noodling, into louder brass sections - pretty nice ambient in a way that really contradicts the common belief that all electronic ambient is fluff. My personal favourite is definitely the third track, Sand Dunes though: Get on it I give it it an 8

Have you listened to much Portishead Hakita Tame Impala - Innerspeaker Tame Impala have always been something of a running joke between me and my friend - every time we went and got cds we'd see them and never know who the fuck they were, but it still took me about a year since then to pick up two of their albums - Lonerism and Innerspeaker. Tame Impala are one of a plethora of bands going back to that old sound - the 60s psychedelic movement. The time when rock was better, apparently. Usually such bands remind only serve to remind us how much better it was done in the 60's. Trademarks include fuzz guitar, swirling flanged chord progressions, reversed tape loops, long echos, gliding synthesizer melodies, solos every now and then, vocals that sound like they've been sung in a swimming pool. Tame Impala have these in bucketloads, so if you're into that sound, you're going to like this album. However, Tame Impala are a very different beast. Despite the very deliberate throwbacks, they still manage to sound very modern, and unique. The dirty, garage approach is quite clear here, but the mix retains its clearness and also a sense of airiness and clarity. Also, forget the drugged up lyrics - bring in the more relatable lyrics. Emotional distance is something that Tame Impala trades in very well. The melodies are catchy, the extended jams don't overstay their welcome and are consistently solid, and the instruments are tight. Overall, this is a great album. That said, they've just released Lonerism, a better album in all respects, where the sound has been honed to be more tight, and more accessible - but Innerspeaker shouldn't be forgotten because of that - it's a solid album in it's own right and definitely deserves a listen. 3.5 LSD trips out of 5
The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2 This is an album I've been waiting awhile to listen to, as I've heard its something that you should listen to in the right mood (which it is). It's an extremely atmospheric, extremely imagery dependent record, that I can't say everyone will enjoy; it took me a couple of listens to click, to be honest. I expected folky-indie-stuff that leans mostly on its lyricism, and that's how it appears to start, but I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of sound and the cohesiveness of the album. As a whole, The Glow Pt. 2 is super dynamic, with soft, deep-prodding moments, and equally profound, abrasive walls of sound and for the most part the transition is seamless. The lofi-acoustic melodies are pretty and light, but their real strength, in my opinion, is in how enveloping they are. A definite positive of the album is the synths, a defining example of how to incorporate electronic music into indie-folk. When or if it comes together for you, the atmosphere created will widen your eyes. If you're into contrast and texture, then this is your album. Phil Elvrum, the sole member of the band, is not afraid to walk from dainty to powerful and vice-versa. The Glow Pt. 2 is very encapsulating, often mesmerizing, and wraps itself around the listener. In term of lyricism, I can't say I was as struck as everyone else seemed to be regarding the lyrics. They're certainly not vapid or detracting, but I can't say I was floored by any particular line or verse; but the quality of the lyricism is something you should decide on. In terms of real flaws, I can't say that any are outstanding or extremely evident. Part of what put me off from the lyrics were Elvrum's vocals, which sometimes feel honest, genuine, and haunting, and sometimes feel sour or out of place next to the other, well-blended sounds. There are a couple points of silence or experimentation that seem superfluous and break the trance of the record (that fucking xylophone), but these moments are few and far between and I can't really blame The Microphones as they venture through a lot of territory. I certainly recommend this record, but it likely will challenge any listener, especially one who is more accustomed to the variety of pop-influenced variety of indie-folk typified by a majority of groups out there now. Oh, and headphones are highly recommended. 8.5/10
There are so many good songs on the fucking album. I Want Wind To Blow (that melody, man), The Glow Part 2, Headless Horseman, The Mansion, The Gleam Part 2, Map, You'll Be In The Air, I Want to Be Cold, I Felt My Size, I felt Your Shape, Samuria Sword. Those songs are just stellar, and the rest are great. I was thinking about it at work today and I decided its one of my most favorite albums.
Yeah, The Glow pt.2 is absolutely beautiful. I love Phil E's stuff with Mount Eerie but he'll never be able to top it, imo.

The Flaming Lips - The Terror It's a strange thing to say that one of the scariest albums I've ever heard was made by The Flaming Lips. It's very, very alien sounding. Also, given its strong concept of mortality and the tones of the album it's a pretty unsettling and strange album. It's uncertain and naggingly-pulsating. Seems stuck in a limbo kind of; the place you were the moment you realized you would die and what that meant. This is a understandable transition from Embryonic but it is such a darker album and that is pretty startling. it's at the very least interesting. It's not a catchy album but it's so cool sounding. I feel like it has this seemingly physical constant pulse or tremor going through it from the beginning to the end. Listening to this is an experience for me that is akin to listening Have A Nice Life's Deathconciousness. Rating: the best
Sure you're not jumping the gun on reviewing it it only leaked like yesterday I really like it too though, great album, better than Embyronic
