I'm still waiting for it so I can listen to it the first time on vinyl.
I prefer the deluxe edition cover. Not sure if there's a vinyl version of it.
I've not listened to it yet, but Bastard took some time to get into. He probably judged it off first listen. I've heard others say they didn't like it that much straight away but it grew on them.
I felt the same way about HORSE the band, especially Desperate Living. It grew on me, and now it's my favourite band. v:v:v
Covenant - Northern Light (2002) 4.5/5 Very good, I'll have to look into their other stuff.
Opeth - Morningrise - 1996 B It's still Opeth, that's for sure. But lacks the power that was introduced with Orchid... I think they were going somewhere great with this album, but it simply struggles to find depth in sections. There are some KILLER Opeth sections here though... goddamn the music is good. However this isn't one I'd go for straight away, it may end up being the least played Opeth album in my list, but all the while it is still creative.
Morningrise is in my top 3 Opeth albums :v: [editline]9th May 2011[/editline] For whatever reason it seems to be a serious fan favourite
Morningrise is in my top 3 Opeth albums :v: [editline]9th May 2011[/editline] For whatever reason it seems to be a serious fan favourite
Don't get me wrong, I can't get enough of the stuff. Probably an A for enjoyment. But it's not as consistent for me as something like Still Life or Orchid.
Covenant - Modern Ruin (2011) 4/5 Not as good as Northern Light but I still liked it.
The Night and the Silent Water is one of my favourite songs of all time. How do you define the consistency of it compared to the others?
The Night and the Silent Water is one of my favourite songs of all time. How do you define the consistency of it compared to the others?
Well it's not much "consistency" as such because they're a progressive band so things kind of go in different directions. I feel they didn't explore that much here, and it didn't put me in that Opethatic world as strongly as they have done.
Yeah I was about to say, to me it's probably their most consistent album, to the point of negativity almost since all the songs have a similar vibe :v:
Judas Priest - Killing Machine 4.5/5 Classic priest. Pioneer stuff man
Yeah I was about to say, to me it's probably their most consistent album, to the point of negativity almost since all the songs have a similar vibe :v:
Will give "My Arms, Your Hearse" a listen tomorrow though. Is it good?
I've never rated it too highly. Demon of the Fall is a classic Opeth track but the album never really gelled with me. Probably should give it another listen. If nothing else it's the album where Mikael's voice went from the higher scream to the low growl of later albums
Mikael's voice went to the low growl
Should be awesome. :smugdog:
It's a good album for sure, but if you're going for classic Opeth Morningrise is the best.
It's a good album for sure, but if you're going for classic Opeth Morningrise is the best.
Just rated it. Prefer Orchid but it's still really enjoyable.
Amazing southern (or 'swamp') rock album, it's chock full of amazing twangy(??) tracks, plus it has Fortunate Son on it too :v: 10/10

Covenant - Skyshaper (2006) 4.5/5 Just as good a Northern Light. Still looking for that 5/5 album they must have
