The universal gateway Drum and Bass album. It is very easy to get into the genre after giving this album a listen, and there is no need to worry that you won't find a better album, because they're out there. This albums real charm is the fact that anyone from a casual listener of any music to a hardcore electronic fan can enjoy.

i don't know why people call pendulum drum and bass, drum and bass is something that came out deep from the london area, with a focus on grit and grime.

that's dnb
pendulum is really just techno rock or electronic rock

Kurdaitcha - Mamaleek
8/10
My first "black metal" album and it has a whole lot of approachability to it thanks to the inspirations of other genres like Industrial and even World. It's textured, catchy and really interesting. Would suggest anyone download it. It's from some San Francisco brothers who have never been seen other than a picture of the two when they were children.
It's pay-what-you-want so drop a dollar at least, you won't regret it. http://enemieslist.net/mamaleek/

Miles Davis - Dark Magus - 1974
A+
It's fair to say that this is one of the most glorious musical experiences I have had in a while. This record simply EXPLODES through you at every oppurtunity it gets. It's not smooth any more, this time he is a rock and just puts PILLARS of sound through you... goddamn.
This is an hour and 40 minutes......and it doesn't stop being brilliant throughout.

10/11 - Phenominal
An outstanding and influential metal album that covers many genres including Death Metal, Melodic Speed Metal, Black Metal, and Neo-Classical metal. Not only is the album innovative in the Avant Garde aspect of experimenting with such genres, but the fact that it passes it off like they've done it for their whole lives and perfected it it outstanding, especially for a debut. I have yet to listen to a better extreme metal album, and it's a definite listen.

I wish CoB had kept all the classical influences in their music because it was fucking awesome
I only like 2 of their songs

Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left 9/10
First of three beautiful folk albums by Nick Drake. Some of the most autumnal music out there. Beautiful lyrics of longing, love, and sadness, sung with an angel's voice over spindly guitar lines and lush backing tracks.

Red House Painters - Red House Painters (Bridge) 6/10
Leftovers from the other self titled album (aka Rollercoaster). Some moments of poignancy, but really it's impossible to not compare this (negatively) to the first two records. It's the same thing, not fleshed out as much. Good enough for any fan though.

Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um 9.5/10
Mingus throws conventional jazz out the window (not as violently as on The Black Saint however). This totally different from most jazz at the time. Colourful, lively, and wild, but careful enough to be delicate and precise like on the second track, Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. My entrance into being a real jazz fan.

LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
9/10
Before I begin I must say that I purchased the 10 track version of the album so some things will be different.
LCD's debut album is something of masterpiece in dance-punk, right from the start the band make clear their style with ''Daft Punk is Playing at My House'' the synthesiser bursting in straight away, and generally sets the tone for the album. However there is a couple of exceptions to this in ''Never as Tired as When I'm Waking Up'' and ''Great Release'', the first example has chilled out guitar sound to it that accompanies the soothing sound of James Murphy. ''Great Release'' has a piano sound to it that rises to a crescendo accompanied by Murphy and drum and cymbals, which abruptly stops a minute from the end, giving a soothing feel to it. The album ends with a great song ''Yr City's a Sucker'' where Murphy proudly proclaims ''Your city's sucker, my city's a creep'' synthesisers, vocals, drums and a guitar blend to make a head bobbingly brilliant song that captures the listener and tops off a well made debut album for the outfit.

Such a good album. I prefer Mingus Mingus Mingus, but they're awesome.
Also RYM doesn't let you tag images.
Damn good Jazzist. Brian has good taste. :smug:

I'm possibly the latest person in the world to the Radiohead party, but I hope I can be forgiven because I realised how much I fucking love them.
Kid A is one of those albums which I can just sit down and listen to, giving it my full attention, and love every second of it. Not only that, but it was an inspirational turning point for what had established itself as moderately experimental rock band.
9.8/10
Colour Haze - Chopping Machine
8/10
it was interesting, I somehow felt it would've needed more polish.

Not sure if it's better or more enjoyable than the first, but I probably enjoyed it more. There is no Nick Drake track that I would say is "Filler". This is less melodic imo.

A lot more emotion, a lot more powerful. The reason I think this is, is because he is pretty much all alone here and just pouring his thoughts into the playing.

I do like to experience this kind of thing. But musically it consists basically of renditions of senseless drug induced, ode to the "OM" symbol. Of course I love it, but damn... this is a rough release.

Joy Division - Best album cover ever 1979
8/10
I think i get into this album more and more each time. Disorder was instant love, but the rest of the tracks took a while to show their beauty. The very stark and mechanical sound used to be a turn off, now it's my favourite thing about the album. One of my favourite punk albums.

Uplifting psychedelic rock from the eighties. Repetitive to the point of being hypnotic and soothing.

Great for those who love to drown in feedback. Minimal percussion and vocals, maximum fuzz.

Kraftwerk - The Man-Machine - 1978

Not their best, but definitely a great starter. I personally preferred Trans-Europe, but I probably enjoyed this more. Some really rhythmic songs here. It does seem like their most recognizable work, to be honest.

Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain - 1959
A-
Yes... I didn't give it the BIGGEST rating because you know how all of his albums are greatness :downs:
I didn't think this was as creative as some of his whirlwind pieces.. This feels more "technical" and straight forward compared to his more expressive stuff.
I own Four and More Live on vinyl and that is one HELL of a recording. One of the best live recordings I've heard, in fact. On that, you can some truly inspired and breathtaking playing.
With this I feel he didn't push bounderies...
I may be saying this solely because I heard Dark Magus a few days ago, in it's full. But there is more to the man.

Kraftwerk - Computer World - 1981
B+
It's groovy... but I think they're trying to be too "harsh" and "synthetic" for their own good. I'm not too into the concept, but then again... Computer Love is damn good. Coldplay took it and still brought justice to Kraftwerk. They're still able to pull out some nice stereo work even after their day had passed.
