Just got this, I'm only a few songs through, but I can already say it's a great album. They are described as "cinematic chamber pop", whatever the fuck that is, but it really sounds beautiful. You should give them a listen.
Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl

INSTANT LOVE. Sparse, dark, and beautiful. The sound is understated but the emotions and strong and complex. Germano is an excellent musician , so these are more than strong lyrics over average compositions, every aspect of the music is flawless.

This is simply outstanding. Now I'm a big Genesis fan, and this is something. Not surprised seeing as it was released by the Charisma label. But goddamn, this needs to be re-released. People don't know what they're missing, this is some creative shit right here.
I'd rank it along the lines of Foxtrot and Larks' Tongues In Aspic, no kidding. Good job I grabbed it when I found it, was only £2.
man I haven't listened to a new album in a while
just gone through old ones

Sometimes it's nice to do that.
well it's just I have a massive music library and I haven't listened to like 80% of it properly, just skimmed through
trying to examine each and every album to decide whether or not I like it

oh god, this is so fun. And not annoying at all as some twee pop is. Warm, happy cute music. love it.

Strong, lyrical playing from Wayne Shorter on tenor sax. Pretty spectacular.

Leonard Cohen - Songs of l.c
folk
one of the most impressive (and difficult) lyricists I've heard. Quite difficult to get through his lyrics, but the further in I go the more genius I discover. The simplest and most accessible song on here Is the last one, One of Us Cannot Be Wrong. Lyrics are delivered most of the time in a very plain voice. The production is also very stark, and accompanying instruments dial in and out of the mix, giving it a very stark sound. Anyone who likes his song Hallelujah (a great song) should listen to this guys early albums; it's difficult, but much more rewarding.

Yeah.. Vagrant, I'm adding you. :smug:
I'm listening to the entire studio discography of IRON MAIDEN, cause I'm a koolster like that.

Exciting songs full of dark lyrics that make you seem like you've watched too many B-Horror flicks and are starting to imagine what it would be like if you began doing those things in real life. Awesome guitar work. I feel like this is kind of what I'm going to be saying for the rest of the discography though.

Nah I'd say it's So Long Marianne. I think it's the only song there with an upbeat melody.

Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz
I hadn't heard Ozzy Osbourne since about a year or two, and even then, the only song I'd heard was Crazy Train. The first track opened up and his voice brought back such nostalgia.. Good, quality rock, with a few slower songs, which is a plus imo.

I don't know if you'd consider an EP an album, but I'm going to anyways.
It's a pretty awesome EP, imo some songs are different then what they've done before, and others are similar, both good things. I very much enjoyed it regardless, and it's short enough that I can get into it and enjoy it in no time.

Laurie Anderson - Big Science - 1982

Her debut is quite something. It's very experimental but somehow manages to sound pop-ish.
I'm not quite sure if it's full on "Avant-Garde" but it sure is experimental synth... something....
I still need to here her magnificant 4 hour "United States" live album. At which I think my brain will explode, but damn this is promising. She'll still putting out albums too.

Elton John - Rock Of The Westies - 1975

Whether you like the guy or not, this is some class A music making. It never stops being melodic and energetic, the vocals are surprisingly more "forced" than his usual stuff. If you listen to "Your Song" then go onto "Dan Dare" you will know what I mean. I'm on the fence to say it's his best album because fans of his are also on the fence a bit. But I prefer it to most of his work and will keep visiting it.

Bauhaus - In the Flat Field
4 stars
Awesome post-punk band. Check this out if you like Joy Division or Killing Joke's earlier stuff.
One flaw for this thread for me, is that my opinion of albums will definitely change. :downs:
Okay so I forgot about this thread

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O. - 2002
4/5
So I've barely listened to Godspeed and decided to give this one a listen. It might actually be my favourite Godspeed album (from what I've listened to already by them). The other two I've listened to being F♯ A♯ ∞ and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven. F♯ A♯ ∞ was great, but when I listened to it, it was just really boring like >: Skinny Fists didn't really have the same atmosphere. Yanqui U.X.O., for me, has the atmosphere I like from F♯ A♯ ∞ but had more going on, which is what I liked mostly about Skinny Firsts. So yeah, I think this album is great. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Les Rallizes Denudes - 77 Live
psychedelic rock, noise rock
Really slow and hypnotic japanese psych, with awful recording quality. difficult. I turned it off because the sound was bugging me, but the music itself seemed like it could be great. I'll come back to it another time, but for now its 5/10

I've just never thought that album had as many musical ideas as the others, it's always stood out a lot as their weak point to me. More crescendo core, less brooding intensity. I still like it a lot, and probably agree with your rating, but the others just do so much more for me. And one of my favourite things about GYBE is all the droning and samples between the "songs", just makes everything feel so cinematic and complete.

I think the second album is slightly better but it's all good.

Good album that's easy to listen to a few times but once you get used to the riffs and guitar style it gets a bit boring seeing as the vocals are nothing special.
I don't get some people's rating habits, how is "a bit boring" 4/5 material?

REPENT FOR YOUR SINS! THE VOCALS ARE GLORIOUS!
No, but I see your point.
I still enjoy the entire album as much as when I first heard it even though I know almost every melody by heart from that album.

Because of that magical word.
sounds like low standards to me
Seems like letters to me.
But perhaps it is because of some reason the person did not bother to type out.
4/5 sounds like what would be a pretty fucking good album to me. Definitely rated it wrong going by his comments. That sounds like maybe a 3/5.
Anyway for mine:

"Midnight Venom" by Sabertooth Zombie (2006)
7/10. Pretty sweet record. It's a nice mix of hardcore and thrash metal, although I think I'd more call it metallic hardcore/first wave metalcore(despite being released way after that) than crossover thrash. Nothing particularly special but still good stuff.
Grading is a bit easier to understand, scalewise.
I will have more A- albums than A albums. :3:
