Jean Michel Jarre - Équinoxe - 1978 A This is unbelievable... I was looking everywhere for truly progressive synth music. What I really like it the fluttering sounds creating this crisp atmosphere. And due to it being synthy, you almost like being in this world and can reflect, where as prog rock which can take you to places you don't quite feel comfortable in. I can listen to this over and over, and be submitted in this atmosphere of synths. They don't quite buzz, but they sure do go all over the place.
[release] Earth Hibernaculum 2007
9/10
This album is absolutely brilliant. My first drone doom metal album and I fucking love it. The first track, Ouroboros Is Broken, is really catchy and has an amazing riff. The second track, Coda Maestoso in F Minor, has a very sad feeling. The third track, Miami Morning Coming Down, my least liked track on the album, also has a rather sad feeling. The last track, A Plague Of Angels, is a 16-minute track. Its the longest on the album and it also has drums in it. This song is my second favorite, my favorite being Ourobors Is Broken. Overall this album is fantastic and has great atmosphere. I'll definitely be checking more of their stuff as soon as possible. I recommend this to everyone who likes slow and atmospheric music. Also, thanks to Stizzles for telling me about this band![/release]
if you like this, listen to Hex asap!
Last album I heard? Well, The Gerogerigegege's Yellow Trash Bazooka was a work of art in its own way, I'm sure, but I just couldn't follow the creator's intentions.
if you like this, listen to Hex asap!
Hex as in a band or Bark Psychosis?
Hex as in a band or Bark Psychosis?
Hex as in the Earth album I guess. Also, my last album. Eyehategod - Take As Needed From Pain Really dark sludge metal, heavy doom metal influences. Heavily influenced by Black Sabbath. 7.5/10
I'll listen to Earth 2 first and then Hex. Probably some other albums in between so I don't get bored though :v:
Hex as in the Earth album I guess.
Ah, I'm a bit slow. That was after their 9 year gap :3:
Ah, I'm a bit slow. That was after their 9 year gap :3:
It's my favourite Earth album actually.
Their recent album any good?
Demetori - 如臨深遠 ~雨縒煙柳~ 5/5 The image with these dojin albums is heavily misleading these guys play METAL, in a very versatile style. The sound is very "sonic," and there is a large presense of acoustic guitars and synth than electric guitars. But when they take out the 7-stringers, you are in for a djenty euphoria. Plus solos are freakin's awesome. Demetori also has a really kick ass drummer. My favorite song is Eastern Dream(last track), which is probably among the greatest Touhou renditions, and songs, I have ever heard, with 11 minutes of a fantastic journey with turbulent passages. There is a reason Demetori is my favorite band. One song, if you aren't convinced:
Bob Dylan - New Morning - 1970 A- Out of the whole catalogue, this one in my opinion, is his most underappreciated. That's probably due to it being after Self Portrait... which is quite good :3: "If Dogs Run Free", "Day of the Locusts", "The Man In Me", "Father of Night" and the title song, are all VERY good Dylan songs. And what is also good is how unique they seem amongst the stuff he did before and the things he did after. It's hard to believe he struggled to put this out so quick after Self Portrait, but damn did he do well. The result is a really well flowing, country rock album. If Dogs Run Free is possibly his only "lounge" song that he has made, and it's really well done. There is clear amounts of genius here, despite the obvious thing to do... put his earlier work ahead of it. But this isn't a folk album, that's the funny thing.
B - The album was really good, it had nice vocals and the instrument selection was perfect. The only issue I had with this album was that it seemed to be really repetitive.
Dean Martin - Dream With Dean - 1964 A On par with the Sinatra greats, there are really awesome cover versions of songs like "Blue Moon", "Smile" and "I'll Buy That Dream". I would say it's his masterpiece, but I haven't heard much of his work. This is definitely a good one in my collection. What else to say when it's an album of Standard Vocal Jazz pieces? The voice has to work.. and it just does :smug:
The Residents - Tweedles! (2006) 4/5 Hmmm... Well after the 3rd listen, I ended up really liking this album. Never thought I would

Usually criticized for having almost no bass. The first song, Blackened, is one of my favorite metal songs of all time. Its just so amazing. And Justice For All, the title song, is also a very great track. Not really my favorite though. Next is Eye Of The Beholder. I think this is a very forgettable track and its just Ok-ish compared to the awesomeness of the rest of the album. Here is the legendary One, mostly gaining its fame through Guitar Hero 3. It is quite an awesome track and I really love how it goes from peaceful to heavy and thrashy. Harvester Of Sorrow. This song is almost nostalgic to me. To Live Is To Die. An amazing instrumental. yea, Hex the Earth album. Has such a cinematic vibe to it, inspired by revisionist western movies. Definitely not Drone-doom though, :v: that would be early Earth albums. I also highly recommend the album Pentastar, my other favourite. It's sort of a weird transition album, but one of their best moments. Not crushing doom or pludding twangy drone, but sort of super stoned, slowww rock. Sunn Amps & Smashed Guitars kind of sucks, but one song, Divine & Bright is worth listening to. Kurt Cobain is on vocals.
Plans Plans - Plans Plans plays herman melville's Moby Dick - around... 200... 2005? I give a B, maybe B- (for the short songs that don't make sense) These guys are really awesome, they do this thing where when you first hear them you think they rock, then you lose faith and start defending them, then you start listening to them again and love them the more you listen. By now, (I've been playing their album all this year) they're my favorite band. Actually no idea how that happened. As for the album, it's rock, and they play this sort of raw, crazy rock that fits together really well, until they get carried away and let some weird sounds in their songs. If you were to minus some of their carried-awayness, I think they'd be one of the best rock bands ever, like top 500. no, srsly. most of their songs have some rough spots, and they have almost no lyrics, and some of their songs are 30 secs long and don't make sense, but aside from that they're great. They are kind of weird, though, with songs like: We love grapes in the springtime, You always look at me when you work out, Juliansong, Bedtime for Johnny, Sky Steed (my favorite: I WAN'T TO RIDE ON MY SKY STEED), and the strangest of them all: War. overall, it's sad that they were never very serious, and they are disbanded now, possibly the best potentialy serious band I've ever seen, down the drain. lol, sorry for the giant review.
Rammtein - "Herzeleid Demos 93-94" Really good. Liked a lot of the unreleased songs.
Iron Maiden - Killers C+ Meh songs with lengthy segments where nothing happens besides guitar gallops. Lyrics are really good still, especially in the song Killers which is probably the best song on the album. Pretty weak compared to Iron Maiden's s/t. From what I've read it is s/t B-Sides, and I've yet to really be impressed by a B-Side album, similar to Radiohead's Amnesiac.
autechre?
No. Although they're superb, it's more in terms of using synths to create this "ambient" feel. You'll like the album I posted.

Parts flow, music changes direction.. Changes tone after a build up. Bla bla, regular shit. :smugdog:
We Came as Romans - To Plant a Seed Released: 2009 7.5/10 Its a pretty good album all in all but theres so many things that keep it from being a truly great album. Too many similar tracks and meh songs really take away from some of the really good tracks which is such a shame because some of these tracks are really well executed. The main gripe I have with this album is the overuse of autotune and lack of significant keyboard despite having a great keys player. Overall its good but far from great.
