Urm.. how's that?
Albums from bands that are more popular are often cheaper than lesser known bands in the shop I buy music from.
Normal price is 169 kr, but for example Goblin cost 99 kr. It's a bit weird.
Wait that makes no sense. Ulver is popular where you are from?
They're popular for their genre, and they ARE Norwegian, so they're quite big here if you like that sort of music.
Fantômas isn't mainstream music, but Mike Patton is huge in metal and avant-garde, so his albums are mostly very cheap.
Ahh, I forgot you are Norwegian. Carry on. :smugdog:
I thought the black metal scene was actually tiny in Norway? :v:
I thought the black metal scene was actually tiny in Norway? :v:
I didn't say it was big, I just said that Ulver is big in the black metal scene

Yeah but is it cheap?
Also they have a new album out that I must hear :smug:

I didn't like the Mordor & Orc songs. I liked the calm and quiet ones

Fantômas - The Director's Cut (2001)
5/5
I am very surprised at this, I grabbed it only knowing that Mike Patton is involved and Fantômas is an Advant-Garde metal super group.
It ended up being an awesome 40 min album that did a really good job at keeping my attention since it is so unpredictable. I didn't even know they were playing covers of movie themes until today
Yeah but is it cheap?

yes it is cheap
what is it that is so hard to get

It also would help that they have not played Black Metal in a long time and their new music is not as harsh.

Coma Cinema - Blue Suicide
B+
It's probably one of the easiest and calmest albums to listen to. Kind of a a southern depressive rock album, I dunno - the mp3's came listed under "Chillwave" which seems to fit well. It's perfect for me when I'm up too early in the morning with nothing to do and all my music is too loud for that time. The album's FREE from the website OR last.fm.
Coma Cinema website has the album and all other Coma Cinema albums for free too. Check it out, very nice to listen to.

Plus, that album art is pretty silly. Album art is a definite A+

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
finally getting around to listening to this. First thing I noticed is the overall sound of the album is sort of off-putting. Everything sounds really grey, which makes the long noise jams difficult to listen to. Production aside however, there's a lot of great moments in this. It sounds like it could be something really great, which I haven't quite warmed up to. Not a beautiful sounding record for sure, but they have some great music here. I'll have to warm up to Sonic Youth a lot more I think.

Slowdive - Souvlaki
Here's something more up my alley! The only Shoegaze album that I think can touch Loveless, one of my favourite albums ever. Compared to MBV though, this is much more dreamy and soft music, with more gentle layers of sound and impressionist and romantic lyrics that add colour and emotion to what the guitars are doing. Really Slowdive was a very different band than MBV, but they both share a sort of floating feeling of bliss to their music. However I think I prefer Loveless... the loud and battering sounds give me more emotions than the soft washes of sound on this album. A little more difficult to dive into and fully appreciate, but well worth it for the sense of fleeting beauty.

7/10. really neat album, though some points failed to remain interesting, (the price we pay, some of secrets) some lyrical points were ehh, and i don't see it growing on me in the future but it was alright

like I said, just wasn't into it. I'm sure it's all it's cracked up to be or whatever but I'm not feeling it. :/ but hey I used to feel the same about Loveless and Kind of Blue

the earlier stuff is more brutal and rough, if you're into fugazi (i'm guessing by the avatar you are) that stuff you'd probably enjoy more

If you're expecting anything like Bergtatt you will be disappointed :v:
A sample from their next-to most recent album

Basically Dead Can Dance, still amazing in a different way though. It's one of two albums to have given me leaden paralysis while listening :v:

King Crimson (ProjeKct Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins) - A Scarcity Of Miracles - 2011
B+
Quite reminiscent ambient King Crimson, like in ConstruKction of Light and Power To Believe, but it is clear that it's not the King Crimson we got to know. They have been stripped of the heaviness that was instigated by ThraK and have brought on a jazzy, soft rock approach to progressive rock.
But the case here is that the vocals provide sustainance to the ambient quality that is brought on by the guitars and drum rhythm. Not to mention great sax playing by Mel Collins, can't go wrong.
I wasn't too surprised about the ambience since ProjeKcts tend to revolve around that place, so nothing new here.
I'm still debating in my mind whether it's a true King Crimson release, because it is so different... however the band changes a lot and this IS a band effort.
I really liked the title track, This House and the final "The Light Of Day". Those are stand outs purely for the playing and "feel" of it.
All in all, I enjoyed it thoroughly because Light of Day gives me that pure boost of guitar playing that I missed. Fripp doesn't do wrong.
A nice change in style, but is it quite King Crimson... I'm not sure, there isn't OOMPH that you get on other albums. Therefore I'll judge it as a "ProjeKct" and move on. It scrobbles as "Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins" anyway.
[editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
To add onto that.... it has some nice use of "reverse guitar" thing whatever that they used before.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Italia Violenta - The Thrilling Sounds Of 70s Italian Police Movies - 2006
A+
You think we westerners could master the art of cool police car movie music, but no.... Italians do what they do best. And this is some funky shit, ranging from really moving layered progressive style music, to synthesized funk.
There is no possibility of getting bored with this for me, and it finishes with my favourite track. "La Polizia Ha Le Mani Legate".

I really like EVOL, just sounds like there's so much more going on. A Thousand Leaves is great too, even though fans seem to not respect is a whole lot

Jason Becker - Perspective - 1996
D+
Okay, a lot may like this.. but this is a poor effort for an album. Did I enjoy it? Well I had to... why else would I listen to it, the guitar playing was nice, the recording was done pretty well I liked the compositions and piano playing and the production wasn't bad.
But I really think this album is the definition of empty delivery. Fair enough it brings new things to the table, but look at that cover. "Neo-Classical Metal"?
It didn't do that at all, it was just a fest of la-dida with no direction.
I did like Rain and the final track "Meet Me In The Morning" (which tries to be clever after the dull "Serrana" track) but at that time it's far too late to gain any credit with the other tracks.
If you like the album as a whole, enjoy it. It's one hour long and begs you for a sit down. Not from me I'm afraid.
The guitar playing is supreme but what was he thinking with that album?

just listened to the repress of legowelt - reports from the backstreet pimp for the first time in a couple of years, its fucking incredible i dont really understand why they would limit it to 50 cd's and 500 vinyl

The End of the Beginning is absolutely fantastic, but overall Perpetual Burn is a better album. He wrote and recorded most of Perspective as he was losing his motor functions to Lou Gehrig's Disease I believe
