Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus 2/5 Boring, repetitive. A few decent riffs, but there are no new ideas. Also, Radikult's lyrics, "The radicals are here to stay, yay."

It's like they're purposely trying to make people despise the album.

Earl is the main reason I listen to it, but there's also enough Mike G to keep me listening. Highly recommended if you like people rapping about raping bitches, then dumping them in separate garbage cans.
No EMotion - Shit is bad... but diarrhea is worse 9/10 Honestly one of the most original, unique mixtapes i've heard since The Weeknd's "House of Baloons" came out a few months ago. At first it seems to be essentially a guy rapping about random shit but if you go past that you're very much rewarded. You notice the superb beats and the unothodox yet smooth delivery as No Emotion almost stops then starts; it's as if he's speaking in sentances not bars. This is evident in his lyrics which can almost be ADHD at times skipping from one topic to another. A brilliant mixtape and I seriously hope to hear more of this artist.
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang First of all, the most hip-hop/rap I had listened to before this was newer stuff like Kanye West and some Eminem, so listening to this was a lot different style then I was used to hearing, and it is surprisingly really good. Some people might not like the garage styled sound it has, but I think it's what helps make this album, it sounds really raw and powerful... I'll definitely be playing this more often. 9/10
Delphic-Acolyte A very good debut album, some good singles and flows nicely. 4/5
it's [img] not [image]
I know, dunno why I did that, brain fart for a minute there.
Guru - Guru's Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 - 1993 B+ Very smooth jazz rap, I was expected it be mediocre considering but this was a very nice listen. It seemed to bring in a lounge feel to hip hop that I wasn't expecting. What's good here is that the sounds overlap very well, we have no jazz trickery here neither.. they just fit into each other and add warmth. The other good side is the features. I liked the funk influences, the MC Solaar addition and it seemed like a good example of modern fusion. One disappointment however was that the stories within are a bit "underdeveloped" or uninteresting. But it's not meant to speak to you, it's just meant to put you in the mood.
Goblin - Tyler, the Creator [img_thumb]http://onethirtybpm.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Tyler-The-Creator-Goblin.jpg[/img_thumb] 5/10 Eh, I dunno. It's not as good as I thought it would be. Bear in mind I'm not a massive fan of rap and I've only given it a couple of listens, so it'll probably grow on me after a while. Right now though, it's one of the few albums I own where I feel I've wasted my money. :smith:
I only rated it highly for the personal experience. Musically it's not great.
The Strokes - Angles 5.5/10 This album really didn't cut it for me. Everybody was expecting it to be awesome due to their last great albums, but this one in my opinion was pretty bad.
Angles took me a few listens to get into, but I quite like it now, some great songs on there

Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi - Rome (2011) 3.5/5 It was good but it was A LOT shorter than I expected. Over before I knew it. :clint:
It was good but it was A LOT shorter than I expected. Over before I knew it. :clint:
Took them 5 YEARS to put together that album. What a waste.
Took them 5 YEARS to put together that album. What a waste.
Yeah I was expecting more but I still enjoyed it
I feel like it's gonna be a massive let down. I'm a fan of spaghetti western soundtracks and if they make it too clean or precise then I'm gonna hate it. Has to have that heart. :smugdog:
Tiger Trap - s/t twee pop cuuuute music, and really mellow and sincere. very different from Belle and Sebastian or Camera Obscura style twee, this is very guitar driven. Vocals are distant but always beautiful sounding, and the melodies are strong and lovely. Simple music all over, but it's really refreshing and beautiful. 9/10 Cocteau Twins - Treasure dream pop wowowow why haven't I listened to this earlier this is amazing. fuck man. stark and dated production with simple guitar and synth melodies and a drum machine make up the background for one of the best voices in music. the melodies and harmonies of the singing makes this a totally beautiful thing to listen to. the singer is also featured in Massive Attack's "Teardrop", so fans of that song must listen to this. 9/10
Forget the Night Ahead - The Twilight Sad 8/10 Completely different sound to their live shows, and their previous album. The distorted, shoegaze-style guitars coupled with the vocals of James Graham help create a very harsh, but emotive sound. There are some weak songs, and some bits that shouldn't be, but overall it's a very strong album. Great lyrics too.
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues - 2011 A+ This has some of the most caring, delightful, emotional songs that I've heard in a while. As new albums go.. this is a truly astounding experience. I can go on to say that I can see this growing as a piece and making more learn about it. I heard it first on vinyl just today, and the ambient quality that it has given off has blown me out of proportion slightly. All the reverb seems so real through vinyl, and I got no sense of fake expression. My brain needs some rest before I hear their debut. But I think this is something of a legendary work that we've experienced in our lifetimes. :smugdog:
Bill Bruford's Earthworks - Earthworks - 1987 C+ I only got it for the drummer that is the man. It's okay, but some of his other collabs have seen better days of his presence. The fusion here was done with some expression, the sounds were somewhat interesting, but I really would've liked some more expressive rhythms. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] Kazumi Watanabe - Spice of Life - 1987 B Much better example of the drumming coming through. He's very well composed with his expression and I enjoy it a lot. I wouldn't revisit it often but it's nice to have. The guitarist has faded into obscurity but the drummer on this album is Bill Bruford. That's pretty much the point. His drumming pulls through here, his use of "electrical drumming" is obvious and it is quite nice to hear to be honest. I don't see why people hate that. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] Kazumi Watanabe - Spice of Life Too - 1988 B+ Better this time, the sounds are now poised and they want to deliver at a bigger scale. I thoroughly enjoyed the jazz fusion styles here and it's now one I'll visit again. Quality effort. [editline]11th June 2011[/editline] Neil Young - Neil Young - 1968 A- I love this album, it's really well performed and creative. It becomes overlooked as a work of his, but then again it's his debut so obviously it'll gather interest. It's very different from his later works "After The Gold Rush" and "Harvest" come to mind. In fact, it's nothing like them at all because it's not country rock whatsoever. I enjoy the styles here and if I see a copy on LP, it's mine. A bit rare though.

Best compilation cd ive ever heard - every song on there i love 10/10
Gong - You C+ This is mostly a mix of short, strange songs and long jams. It's all perfectly competent and fairly enjoyable, but nothing stands out, there's no truly good songs, and there's no sense of the album working as a whole. Quite a poor effort.
Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm A- This is great atmospheric sludge. It's simple and raw, especially the vocals, which really help make is as powerful as it is. Not all the songs stand out paritcularly; this is album that benefits from a complete listen, but the last song, I Can See you, sends shivers down my spine. It's a truly fantastic end to the album.
My review of said album: Look at the album cover it's simple it's gray it's dull describes the album perfectly the singing got boring after a few songs songs feel like they are dragged and forced to be so long 6/10
Fantomas - Suspended Animation (2005) 4/5 What a crazy album, it just went all over the place But it was definitely a fun listen
Talking heads-Fear of music 5/5
Jefferson Airplane - Crown Of Creation Another 1 dollar clearance record I grabbed after a friend pointed out they're the group behind White Rabbit, so I figured why not It's mixed with rock and psychadelic songs on it, and switching between the singers keeps it interesting through the whole album. I'm glad I got it, i'll be going through more of their stuff now. 8.7/10
