I don't really know how to describe the way I felt the first few times I listened to this... but it was beautiful. From the moment the fuzzed out wah wah riff rips in until the dying moments of Poledo this is awesome. emotionally insecure whining and blistering swells of guitar noise over fuzzed out rock that predates grunge. so it's great. basically look at the album cover... thats what the music is like. 9.5/10 [editline]14th June 2011[/editline]
Stupid Dream's their best imo. :pcgaming:
maybe I'll actually listen to that. Deadwing bored me to tears.

I'm not a big fan of long-ass songs, but the title track 2112 was more like a ton of songs melded together to make a 20 minute track, and it actually kept me interested. First Rush album I've gone through, and so far I'm really impressed, and as a bass player, I really enjoy the good bass playing too. 9.5/10 [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Weird, new wave stuff, but really well made.. I love the vocals and guitars on it, they're really odd, in a good way. Kind of difficult to describe, but it's another group I'm gonna have to explore. 9/10
last one I swear Green Day - Dookie Not sure how facepunch feels about Green Day, but I enjoyed this album. To me, it reminded me of an easier to get into Sex Pistol album. Punk Rock-lite 8.5/10

In Absentia - Porcupine Tree 9/10 Pure awesome made into sound.
maybe I'll actually listen to that. Deadwing bored me to tears.
If you liked In Absentia you'll love Stupid Dream. Can't go wrong.
I never said I liked Absentia or ever listened to it :l
I never said I liked Absentia or ever listened to it :l
Should've gone for them first. But I don't know how Deadwing is, haven't heard it.
Dying Fetus - Descend into Depravity Great album, lots of awesome riffs. The mixing is very good and even though you can't understand the lyrics, they're pretty great once you read them. Only iffy thing on the album is the random changes of tempo between some riffs that can be confusing sometimes, but it's a solid record nonetheless. 8.5/10

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Live at L'Olympic (2003-05-14) I'm not sure what to rate this, so I'll just go ahead and review it. Unfortunately, there are still no official Godspeed live albums, and this is the most easily obtainable bootleg. The recording quality isn't great, but it's perfectly listenable. The tracklist is a decent mixture of their material, but I think the choice of material from F# A# ∞ is quite poor; Dead Metheny is always good, but there's no Kicking Horse on Broken Hill, no J.L.H. Outro, no The Cowboy, and nothing from East Hastings, which dissapoints me. What does make this definitely worth finding though is the inclusion of Albanian and Gamelan, two live-only tracks that have yet to have an offical release. For that reason, I highly recommend it.

But, all in all I liked it. [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] Pageking.
who treats their records like that why [editline]15th June 2011[/editline] Giles Corey - Giles Corey Packaging 4.5/5 "Shit is pretty much cash." I'm not reviewing the music. Just the packaging cause I need to listen to the album at a more appropriate time than when someone is mowing my neighbors lawn and it's 4 PM. This is the solo project of Have A Nice Life singer and writer Dan Barret. It's folk, country, and ambiance wrapped in a nice depressing package with some really nifty bonuses. The thing on the left is not a vinyl sleeve but a 120 something page book that covers the subject matter of the album. It's a pseudo-fictional telling of Dan's depression and his experience with a Voor's Head Device (depicted on the album cover) and the history of its inventor, Robert Voor and his beliefs on death and the after"life". The book adds a lot of context and details to the music, so I suggest listening to the album while reading it. It's very atmospheric. The book generally follows the layout of text on left page and photo with scrawled text on the right. The craftmenship of the album its self is pretty cheap. I understand that ELHR is basically the definition of home-grown and it shows when this album is basically glossy cardstock with a disc holder. I went to put the album away in my collection and motherfucking Goblin tore the packaging a little - Tyler's a fag. The way the album art is mirrored reminds me of old black metal albums, kind of nifty. "Will I find piece or nothing at all?" It also came with a very sexy Enemies List Home Recordings sticker capable of bringing the necessary amount of flare when it comes to music label stickers.
Dat's sum swanky packaging. I really liked Deathconsciousness, I was bummed about the lack of physical releases for it, might need to check this out :buddy:
It's a pretty good album during the day. I'm sure it's even better in a melancholy nighttime.
I Monster - NeveroddoreveN (2003) 3/5 It was ok, a few good songs here and there but it was just overall ok.
Giles Corey - Giles Corey 4.5/5 "THERE'S A DEVIL ON MY BAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAACK Tier". This album honestly surprised me quite a bit. I thought it would only be just "neat" after what I heard from Dan Barret on Deathconsciousness and other HANL releases. This is a fully conceptualized, well made, haunting and great album with a weird range of genre. It has clear country and folk inspiration but also has the Enemies List trademark genre of Post-TheFuckAreYouDoingButItSoundsSoGood when these distinguishable sounds from other genres form to make this delicious mix of unique sounds. Surprisingly little super emo acoustic guitar songs on here with the exception of Sleeping Heart which is a really, really great somber song. There are times where the sadness and the depression is a little silly like in The Haunting Presence where at the end you hear what is described in the book which is "footsteps... the sound of glasses clinking together. Knocks on the wooden body of my piano." and "myself wailing, screaming and crying." which is really just Dan frustratingly slamming on his piano going "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--!!!!!!!!" and it's a bit silly. Although, the clinking of glass and the banging is very eerie sounding. My favorite song is Blackest Bible which is really just a nice up-beat(ish) country sounding song that stands out as a real Black(est bible) Sheep on the album. There are times when there are some questionable directions with the way the songs go like in the finale Buried Above Ground where these trumpets burst into the scene and hold rest of the music at gun-point while it tries to get it's barrings together, but it eventually does. So yeah - 4.5/5, really fucking good. You can still buy the album on ELHR for $20 and I'd highly, highly recommend it if not just for the really neat packaging and story the album and book provide.
Nowhere near as good as Diamond Eyes I wanted to hear songs like Sextape, got nothing.

Yup. Shipping is a bit more though.
Bollocks, can't afford it right now, do you think it'll be around for another month or two? And that's great value, £20 with shipping. Hnnnng
I don't know. What he has in store is probably just extras from his first and probably only issuing. I think he made ~300 and probably sold 250 or something. I suggest getting much sooner
awesome, need to check this out
I give it a 8/10. It is quite awesome and the only instrument is a bass guitar. All of the songs are quite soothing and make time go by in a heartbeat. I am not in the mood for a lengthy review right now.
Electric Wizard - Witchcraft Today It was an interesting listen. Very heavy even more psychedelic Black Sabbath.
Bon Iver, Bon Iver Having never actually heard Bon Iver before I decided to listen to it when my dad lent me the CD. I must say, even though I've only listened through once, it's very good, a lot of really good ideas being thrown around. I can see this very much growing on me. 8.5/10
Having never actually heard Bon Iver
Should've gone for their first album. :iia: But then again I haven't heard that new one and looking at your comments I think you already like them a lot.
Should've gone for their first album. :iia: But then again I haven't heard that new one and looking at your comments I think you already like them a lot.
Imo, the new Bon Iver album is pretty meh. For Emma, Forever Ago is the folky relaxation that I enjoy. The new album is overproduced and too electronic.
Meshuggah - Nothing (Remastered) In addition to the retracked instruments, there are some rearrangements on the actual guitar parts themselves. Tomas Haake still remains one of my favourite genres, and Meshuggah have all my respect for remastering this one. There is a vast improvement here with their new gear. Apparently in the original Nothing, the guitars had tuning and intonation problems, which I find a wierd excuse seeing as the guitars were too overdistorted to notice, but nonetheless the sound and complexity of the album is something every man with a taste should listen to.
"What kind of music do we play?" "Erm we play prog Tomas Haake"
